Subway

Yeah,. it’s «just» Subway, and you know what you’re getting. Today, though, this store shined. I was in for lunch with 2 kids. There were 4 guys behind the counter. The kids ordered their own subs and the guys interacted with them courteously and in a friendly manner. The process was very speedy and every one of them took their job seriously. When we sat down, there was a worker sweeping floors. Not just sweeping, but MOVING tables to get a thorough job done. Then he mopped. I watched him the whole time. Again, taking his job very seriously, I could tell. Before we left, I had to tell management how pleasantly surprised I was to enjoy their good service and clean restaurant. Again, it’s «just» Subway, but for a great customer service experience, this is the one to hit. This store is in the shopping center where they just built the new huge Giant grocery, at Burke Lake Road and Rolling Road.

AWFUL. I use to go to this subway often since it’s close to my job. Beware I was in the other day and the older gentlemen which I have learned is the owner was seen scratching INSIDE his pants as he waited to cash out the next customer. To make things worse he walked through the kitchen closing a bread cabinet door and proceeded to the kerig machine to help a customer. Not once did he wash his hands but even if he did he should not be scratching INSIDE his pants. I should have taken a picture but I was ultimately disgusted. NEVER EAT AT THIS SUBWy.

Beware! I have gone to this subway a couple of dozen times, and for the most part, got what you would expect: on-​par /​mediocre. On my most recent visit, they had no turkey in stock, but we decided to plow ahead anyway. What happened next blew my mind.
My daughter ordered a 6 inch sub on flatbread. The lady behind the counter pulls out the 6 inch flatbread. I notice what’s going on, and I corrected the order to a 4 inch sub. (My daughter’s real goal was the 4 inch kids meal with you and bag). So the lady behind the counter cuts the 6 inch in half.
In my world half of 6 is three. Not four. I pointed out that the cheese didn’t even fit on the sandwich and that we wanted the 4 inch sub. They insisted it was. The shift lead /​manager type came to his workers defense by dazzling me with this: «The kids meal is one-​third of a foot».
Nothing they say will make a three inch sub turn into a four inch sub.
I guess he hoped that whipping out his high order mathematics would scare me away. But as they toasted the pathetically small sub, I realized this was a teaching moment. We left.
All the way home, having gone to McDonalds next door, my daughter got a lesson in cheating and also one fractions. This will undoubtedly make her over qualified for a career at Subway.

I agree with April … best Subway in the area. It is near my home, so I have been there a lot. But even when I am away from the house and I plan on a Subway, I will try to get back to this one. Staff is quick and polite. Don’t have spinach on my subs so can’t comment there.

Stopped by here again last night for a soda. Stood at the cash register for almost 10 minutes. Employee behind register was not helping anyone else. She talked to co-​workers while I stood there, then walked away. I left.

Staff was super friendly. Quick service. By far the best subway in the area?!!

No baby spinach, they do not take Subway coupons, they do not have the breakfast specials every other Subway I visit have, and the customer service ranges from good to atrocious! This morning two employees came out from the back but it took several minutes for either to even look up at me. And the guy who served us was totally disinterested the entire time. In the Sunday coupon inserts to the Washington Post, there were Subway coupons. I went to the above store and wanted to use the «free double meat on a 6″ regular sub» coupon. I was also going to order two foot-​longs with double meat and cheese. When I showed the coupon I was told «the management here does not accept coupons.» I said that in that case, I wouldn’t be buying anything and left to go to the Subway down the street at the Twinbrook shopping center. (What happened there is noted below and will be the subject of another review.) I am GREATLY DISAPPOINTED at the apathetic and short-​sighted response from the staff at that store (there was no «manager» there at the time, or so I was told.) I was going to spend over $ 20, but because they would not honor a $ 1.25 coupon, I went elsewhere and will need to rethink ever going back.
When I tried to lodge a complaint online to Subway Customer Service, after returning home, I kept getting error messages indicating that their server had probably crashed — too many complaints?
Oh, and BTW, the folks at Twinbrook did the same thing to me, adding «if we were participating, we’d have a sign.» I understand the «participating locations» disclaimer, but do they understand that they lost a sale and a customer over about 35 cents worth of ingredients? I told them that instead they should have a sign when they are NOT participating and again left a Subway store, and went to Best Deli at University Mall.

Love this subway. Food is fresh & restaurant is very clean. Friendly & efficient staff & oh so good diet coke.
