Typical is anything but typical! Great food quality! Nice family owns the place. Everything you’d want with good Italian food, the Veal is always perfect! It is a must try!

Great place to sit at the bar and order the calamari. The location is kind of tough but the food definitely worth stopping in for.

My wife and I live 1 mile from here. It is our Go To Italian food spot. The home made sauce they make is amazing and comes with many apps of entrees. Home made pasta! Oyster app is fantastic but different, in a good way(not your ordinary summer beach trip consisting of over fried clams or extra toughly breaded oysters or clam strips but actual Quality). Rack of lamb is beyond excellent. Try to think outside your usual Uno or 99 order and take chance you will not be disappointed but very happy.

Holy crap! The breaded stuffed pork chop is crazy good. Seriously. A friend from the area knew I was traveling through Springfield and sent me here. Crazy good.

Great stuff — very good Chicken Marsala and fried oysters. I ate there on a Friday night, and they were busy, but the staff was very friendly and attentive. Recommended.

The food was good, the service was less than impressive. Multiple people involved throughout ordering process was unsure who our waitress even was. So right off the bat it was stressful. We read the menu and how you had to ask about the complimentary salad, so we did and the waitress made a point of saying yes it comes with it only if you ask… ok I’m asking, salad please. They seemed to be rushing us out and along even though there were still available tables. Sometimes people eat slow, but who leaves a piece of mozzarella as an app on the plate, jeeze give us a moment to breathe! And soon as it looked like we were slowing down they were offering to box up our meal, and cleared out glasses from the table… rude! Also, way to not up sell the dessert, bringing the check over, half walking away then asking if we wanted dessert sealed the deal for us! Was decent food, but overall was your«typical» average dinner stop, nothing overly amazing to make me rush back or ever

The three of us are new to Western Massachusetts and wanted to look for a place to celebrate the end of the week. We came upon Typical Sicilian in Springfield, MA. The smell outside was to luring customers in and the parking was packed which only gave us a great impression of the place so far. The hostess inside told us it would be a less than 20 minute wait(surprising due to how packed the place was). We ended up waiting around 25 minutes and were promptly seated and ordered the Arancini(fried risotto balls in a tomato sauce), Penne Original, Chicken Parmigiana, and a special that was listed as a Lobster and Shrimp Carbonara. The Arancini was great! Then came a complementary house salad with an orange and raspberry vinaigrette. The first dish to arrive was the Carbonara which smelled great then the Chicken and last but definitely not least was the Penne Original. I took a bite of my chicken parm and immeadietly tasted something wrong. The chicken was quite juicy and hot but the breading tasted stale as if it the chicken had been sitting in a plastic container since the night before. I sent it back was content with what I had eaten thus far(since it was a enough to fill me). The one who ordered the Carbonara had to wrestle with de-shelling his lobster and when he finally was able to try it, had to put it to the side and commented that it tasted very fishy and old as well. We were all surprised because we were frankly quite happy with our food so far. The third person’s Penne Original stole the show. It was a great mix of fresh vegetables and chicken in a garlic cream sauce. The problem arose when we informed the waitress of our issues and she told asked us «Did you eat anything before coming here? Sometimes residual when the flavors affect what you’re eating.» We were shocked by the rudeness of this statement. After this the hostess/manager came over to tell us that the restaurant did not serve old food and she wanted to assure that we «would not tell our friends and post anywhere that they served old food.» We assured her that we understood and would not. She interrupted us with the stunning statement of «frankly, it’s offensive for you to say this about our food.» We were stunned to hear this from a person in the service industry and we informed her that due to her demeanor and the way she accosted us to not tell anyone about our experience we told her we would not return to the answer of «okay sounds good.»

We had to wait a while to be seated, which would have been worth it if the quality of the food could make up for it. The Arancinini was delicious but 2⁄3 entrees were disappointing. I ordered the carbonara with shrimp and lobster and it was so fishy(and tasted very old). The chicken parmigiana was stale and old too. The penne typica was delicious, however. To complicate our situation we were accused of having an uncultured palate or not«traveling the world enough» to appreciate their cuisine. Ok, I guess I’m not eating in Springfield again until I travel the world three times… Yeah right. Bottom line: Food 2⁄5 Customer service 1⁄5 FYI if you complain about food, they’ll say that it’s personal preference or that you don’t know what you’re talking about.

I will no longer done at typical. I had been there a few months back and ordered chicken piccata with the artichokes from the francaise added which is why I came back. This time when I ordered the waitress immediately told me I wasn’t able to have what I requested. «Chef jimmy will not alter his recipes for you » … Since I already had it this way and very much enjoyed it I was disappointed that the chef was not willing to satisfy a customer. Next, it took over an hour and a half to get my food. Poor service from both the waitress and the chef. I will no longer frequent this restaurant.

Went with a long-lost friend, had a good meal. The food was very tasty, we both had plenty leftover on our plates, and the prices were quite reasonable for what we had. Definitely recommended!

The devotees of this little Italian restaurant have raised it to near cult status. Since moving to the area 3 years ago I have heard more about this place than any other dining establishment in the greater Springfield area. Last night was my first time dining there and by all measure it was a very nice introductory experience. The menu begins with a goodly selection of appetizers, so if you were inclined to chose a couple off the list it would make for a very nice dinner and give you the opportunity to try several interesting items rather than the customary single entrée. My meal began with a mixed green salad like most would expect from a restaurant of this caliber but that’s where the distinction ends, the house made Gorgonzola/Parmesan dressing is shear bliss, really very nicely done. Perhaps a few crumbles of Gorgonzola on the salad might have been a nice finishing touch but I’m not complaining as that dressing is definitely a crowd pleasing winner. For my main course I chose Linguini Margherita, pan-fried shrimp, scallops, lightly floured pan fired artichoke hearts, cooked with clam broth and plum tomatoes, garlic and olive oil, finished with a little Parmesan cheese. This is a very robust flavorful dish, the seafood was perfectly cooked, the pasta was al dente the way I like it but the show stopper were the artichoke hearts. The artichokes were flavorful, beautifully cooked and added a wonderful complementary level of interest to this nicely prepared seafood plate. I chose a glass of Monorosso Chianti which was very good and lingered over the linguini enjoying every morsel while chatting with folks at the bar. Just before leaving, I used the restroom which was not only immaculate but nicely decorated, a level of detail oftened over looked by many restaurants. As I exited the restroom I glanced to my right and found another level of attention to detail that Typical Sicilian does right, a double door red wine bottle cooler with digital temperature display set to a perfect 63 degrees. These folks have figured out that small and large details matter and that is why they have the following they do and that is why I will be back.

Headed here with the family over the weekend. The restaurant is a small, but cozy space with limited parking. Upon entering, there is a small table area to one’s left, a square bar area, and then the rest of the dining room. The space could easily get crowded on the weekend so arrive early. I decided to have the chicken Parmesan, which came with generous portions. Very good value and good quality for the amount of food I got. My wife had a vodka sauce shrimp, crab, and spaghetti dish which she said she loved. Overall, I recommend this nice place if you can get a seat in their small space.

We went with friends a week ago after not having been to the restaurant in a while. it’s still excellent. The food is superb and the service is also excellent. A very solid and reasonably priced wine list with some good CA&IT options. Wish I had some photos of the food still but yeah its delicious with wonderful presentation.

Just about perfect. Great food, nice wine list, reasonable prices, and friendly service. The only thing I wish they had more of is parking. This place has a TINY lot and people start getting really creative when it’s busy. The chicken francaise is to die for, and the portions are generous enough that you can enjoy it all over again for lunch the next day. I keep thinking that I’m going to try something new on the menu, but I always settle for sampling a bit of one of my friend’s dinners. I’m hopelessly addicted to the francaise, and I’m pretty sure that I need an intervention. Maybe next time I’ll go crazy and try the veal(francaise). Hey, don’t judge. Baby steps. Tip: Don’t make the mistake of thinking you’re going to even get inside the door on a Friday or Saturday night. This place is packed.

Awful long wait, slow and unresponsive service, and some amazing dishes!!! Decided to satisfy my cravings for Italian food and do it without killing myself at the Olive Garden. Came in and requested a table for two. Half hour wait… the wait sucks yes but usually a good sign the food is good. Once we were seat, it took until no time for our waiter to come and ask for drinks. That was as quick as he was all night. Once the drinks came the wait began! Took until my retirement for the waiter to come back and take our orders. I opted for the penne typical while the lady ordered this awesome dish which I don’t remember but had clams, mussels, scallops, and lobster. Cook perfectly well and taste like a bite out of heaven. Had their service been better, I would have easily rated this 4 or even 5 stars. Our waiter just seem to have no enthusiasm or care for our requests. God, even the check took a decade.

If you’re looking for Italian food from Sicily then this is the place for you. Try anything on the menu but my favorite is the appetizer, once done I usually don’t have enough room for the main course. The bread id awesome and fresh as well. Expect to wait for a seat and for your food but it’s all worth it. Bön appetite!

My girlfriend and I have birthdays in the same week, and one of the ways we celebrated this year was to grab lunch at Typical Sicilian. I can’t say enough about the outstanding quality of both the food and the service we received that day! I keep meaning to get back over there for a dinner– it’s on my to-do list. I enjoyed a Caesar salad before my entrée, which was awesome. Crisp lettuce, perfect dressing. I had the namesake pasta dish which was completely outstanding – the bread they bring to the table is so delightful that i had to hold back to save a piece to sop up the little bit of leftover sauce on my plate after I finished my pasta. My partner had the Chicken Francaise, which was also fantastic. The sauce was light and delicious, and the chicken was cooked perfectly. Our server was fantastic. Upon learning we are new to the region recommended a number of other places he loves in the area, which we have been checking out over time. Most importantly, he told us about Pie in the Sky Bakery in Cape Neddick, ME which has changed my reason for living.

5 of us went to dinner and I think I was the only one who enjoyed the 5 star experience. I ordered the Rigatoni Bolognese which was hearty and tasty. The oversized meatball is seasoned in an oversized(good) way and the bits of sausage make the meat part of this entrée satisfying. Pasta was just the right firmness. I will confess i took more than half of it home with me. I may have overdone it with the zucchini rice balls(the arancina were not available) and the optional dinner salad with the gorgonzola dressing. I didn’t even consider dessert. In hindsight — I’m not sure I’ve ever made it to ordering dessert here. I mentioned that I was the only one who had the 5 star experience. Fellow diners mentioned the saltiness of their meals. I noticed it too — but i think the abundance of meatball and sausage And generous optional fresh shaved parmesan caused me to expect/accept a saltiness. My companions were not all amused by the timing of service — but the type of meal and the company made me want to stretch out the mealtime and for me the wait was acceptable. Service was very good — not intrusive and not neglectful. Our friend Kevin gave us a gift certificate to this place that helped defray the cost — thanks Kev! I figure we will be here again in a couple months — hopefully ill choose something other than the awesome Bolognese!!!

What a great place Decided to stop by here on my way back home from Springfield and im glad i did. Place is on the smaller side the bar was packed but i was able to find myself a seat. I have to say the bartenders are very energetic and made the experience a bit more enjoyable. You can tell that it is a lot of regulars that come here, everyone seemed to know each other. I guess they’re known for their Typical sauce which is their take on Alfredo. I started with the chicken typical which was chicken tenders cooked in their Typical sauce. I have to say that sauce was awesome, i dont really know how to describe it. But i went through to basket of bread after the chicken was gone just so that sauce wouldnt go to waste. Next up was my entrée which was the VEALSALTIMBOCCA seared veal cutlet in a sage infused, white wine & Marsala sauce, topped w/prosciutto & provolone & finished off in the oven. Both dishes were on the recommendation of the bartender Ian. I was very please with both choices. The veal was tender and the portions are a decent size. Only problem i have is i wish they were closer. i’d like to try the other dishes on the menu.
