I had been looking forward to this food truck so I wouldn’t need to leave campus, but it showed up more than ½ hour late. Not good when you are a student on a schedule! When the truck arrived I queued up and ordered the banh mi, excited to try the«wasabi sesame brioche bun» garnished with smoked mayo, cilantro and jalapenos. After I received my order, I bit in and was disgusted to find a short, black hair nestled inside the meat. Despite that, I still tried to eat more of the sandwich(because I was starving). There was one jalapeño and a single strand of cilantro on my sad, sad sandwich. The meat itself was flavorful and the pickled vegetables were good, but the bun tasted stale and the pittance of garnishes was disappointing.

The Native Alaskan Frybread was sublime. The epitome of food truck fare. I want my food trucks to serve creative dishes I can’t find anywhere else. This had juicy pork, crunchy slaw, delicious dressing, and a crispy fry bread on the bottom that soaks up all the juices. It was amazing.

Fried bread was delish but the quality of the bbq and chicken bbq was below avg. Wouldn’t return as a result of the quality.

These guys are super cool. Got a tofu native Alaskan frybread, which far surpassed my expectation. Between this, the free peach lemonade, and the self-serve bottle of sriracha, these guys hit my lunch trifecta.

I will admit that I was a little hesitant to try a food truck that served white rice with bbq. Being from Georgia, it is definitely not the norm. However, I was intrigued by the menu and sold when I discovered that they used a smoker to cook their meats! Something that is rare to find in an area that considers using a gas grill to bbq as the go-to method. *cringes*. The service was nice and the prices were decent for what was being served. On top of that, I received a punch card, which I will without a doubt fill up after this experience! I decided on the Try It All combo which came with pulled pork, chicken, and brisket along w/cole slaw and white rice. I also picked up an order of spinach and bacon spring rolls! The entire meal was awesome and the brisket… the brisket was soooooo good! The sauces and rubs complemented each other nicely and the white rice went along with it all very well. I will definitely be back and have put them on my «Must Eat Again» Food Truck list! I’ve finally found some good bbq in the DMV!

I’ve ordered pretty much everything on the food truck menu and I love all of it! Can’t go wrong with whatever you choose. Great staff as well. Looking forward to new things on the menu.

I just ordered this during lunch in Rosslyn. I ordered a combo bbq sampler dish with variety of meats, rice and coleslaw. The rice was a little hard and some of the meat was a little dry. Other than that, the bbq sauce was pretty good and the coleslaw was fresh. It’s not the best I’ve ever had but in all, it was pretty good for a food truck. The fry bread was yummy too. It was about $ 15 for the sampler and the portion was huge. I may need to share with someone next time. The line was not too long but it did take a very long time for the food, maybe 35 minutes. If you are in a rush, I do not recommend coming here. The guys working there were super friendly so that’s always nice.

Decide to try this place during Food Truck Thursday’s at Crystal City. Took me about 15 mins to order food and then another 15 mins to get food. When it was finally time for me to get food it took another 5 mins for them to figure out if it was the right order and for them to add the fried egg on top. When I finally got my food… the Native Alaskan Fry Bread with pork and a fried egg. My egg decently fried and still a bit runny. The slaw and tomatoes were fresh and crunchy not heavily mayo’d. The pork was tender and juicy. The frybread was soggy with all the BBQ sauce from the pork and the slaw. Nicely flavored but soggy. Texture of chewy dough. Overall decent flavors for a food truck although execution was poor and a bit pricey $ 9.00 +1.50 for a fried egg oh and plus tax about $ 11 and some change. If fry bread is suppose to be soggy and full of flavor then that’s what this dish is. I’ll probably come back to try other dishes and perhaps avoid the pork that was suggested by the person who took my order. Or I could just get fry bread Unilocal does give you a coupon for checking in.

Most unique spin on a taco I’ve tried yet. The fry bread is reminiscent of the dough bread from Chinese restaurants that I dunk in congee. The brisket was cooked to perfection sweet n juicy. It was topped with the most amazing slaw. And I’m not a fan of Cole slaw at all. I didn’t even mind eating the tomatoes on top and I hate tomatoes. If you see this truck you must definitely stop by and give it a try. You will not be disappointed.

The Russian Shwarma is the best thing I have ever eaten. I haven’t tried anything else from their truck since I always get the same thing!

I wanted to like them. I really did. I had the pulled pork sandwich which was average. The meat was tasty but cold. And I waited for 15 minutes so they had plenty of time get it warmed. It’s advertised as coming with fried onions(seriously, who wouldn’t want fried onions) but there were none to be found. I did enjoy the bun. There was some«chili garlic coleslaw» which was nothing more than pickled jicama with cilantro. No garlic, no chili, and, oh yeah, no actual coleslaw. I also had the pork and mozzarella eggrolls — I think these would have been quite good if they were cooked properly, but the dough was completely blackened. And I’m not kidding — the entire outside of each egg roll was completely black, so all I could taste was burnt dough. There was supposed to be jalapeño in there as well. Nada. So I spent $ 13.50 for bun. Good deal. I’d stick to the many other food truck options if I were you.

There’s a lot of BBQ trucks around so seeing one with a bit of a twist was welcoming. You’re probably reading this in line trying to make a decision so I’ll be brief. I had beef and pork bbq with the standard coleslaw and bacon fried rice. The beef and pork were 5 star worthy. The beef was just fatty enough and pork perfectly tender. The sauces were delicious and really reminded you that they do fusion. The coleslaw was forgettable. Considering how many amazing ways there are to prepare cabbage that perfectly fit the fusion theme I was hoping for something more. The bacon fried rice was a miss. It tasted fine, but it was gummy and clumped up. Almost like they did not use cold, day old rice to make the fried rice. It was like they just took a scoop of fresh cooked rice and threw it in a hot pan. I make a lot of fried rice, particularly garlic bacon fried rice, so I was a little disappointed here. Not worth the extra money. The staff were extremely nice and friendly and it took less than a minute to get my food. Although I was there just after the lunch rush. Definitely worth a try!

I got to try Urban Bumpkin today for the first time at techie Woodbridge food truck festival. The man taking orders was super friendly and answered all out questions with a smile even though there was a very long line. He took the time and made us feel like we were the only ones there. When we weren’t sure which meat we should try for our tacos he offered up the suggestion of the brisket. I am glad we listened because it was fantastic. We also got a side of rice with our tacos. The meat was atop fry bread which was reminiscent of a unsweet doughnut… Drool… So good… This meal was so delicious. It was also served with a side of cole slaw. I am not normally a slaw fab but this one I’d definite eat again. The brisket was flavorful and tender; the flavor was reminded me a blend of general tso’s and bbq. Great food and fast service. I’ll definitely eat here again.

This food truck was delicious! It is one of the more unique fusion trucks around, with Russian/Eastern European, Native Alaskan, and Southeast Asian flavors combined with BBQ. As I am originally from Alaska this combo of cuisines was a throwback to home(these are all ethnic groups with a large AK presence). I ordered the egg rolls with mozzarella, jalapeño, and pulled pork; strawberry lemonade; and the Alaskan fry bread pulled pork taco. All were truly delicious, albeit a bit heavy. The egg rolls were uniquely flavored, reminding me of southwestern egg rolls from chili’s(I mean this in a complimentary way). The strawberry lemonade was fresh tasting and came with these lemon bubbles(not tapioca) that I never had before– these were awesome because they burst flavor into your mouth as you bite into them. Last but not least, the fry bread BBQ taco. This was so good, so messy, and very filling. I would absolutely come back to this food truck just for the fry bread– the banh mi and borsche sounded really good too. Heck, I really want to try everything on the menu.

Let me preface this with I never ever complain about any restaurants/food trucks, even if I am unhappy I never feel compelled to write a bad review. That being said… I work in Courthouse in Arlington and they were parked out on Wilson Blvd. There were only maybe 2 people in line in front of me but they were SO slow that I was standing in line for 20 minutes before I actually ordered. 20MINUTES. And I was the THIRD person in line! It was FREEZING outside as well. Strike 1. I ordered the Chicken Banh Mi, and they suggested the duck instead. So I agreed, and there was a $ 2 up charge. They didn’t even bother to mention the up charge. Call me crazy, but $ 11 for a sandwich is a little ridiculous. A minor annoyance that this up charge wasn’t even mentioned until my card was swiped, strike 2. It took another 10 minutes to get my food(for a total of 30 minutes in the freezing cold outside) and brought it back to my office. I open the box, and it was NOT at all what was advertised on their menu. The banh mi was supposed to be served with«pickled veggies and fried onions, cilantro, and jalapenos». I essentially got a «pulled duck» sandwich. NONE of the above was on my sandwich. NONEOFIT. It was meat, the«smoked» mayo, and bread. Oh, and it was cold. The meat sandwich was cold. STRIKE3. I stood in the cold for 30 minutes, was unknowingly up charged, and got a cold meat sandwich. I will NEVER return to this food truck. Unbelievably disappointed. What a waste of my time and money.

I was intrigued by the eclectic menu this food truck offered– a fusion of Russian, Asian, American, and native American foods. Sort of a schizophrenia of choices, but that is what makes going to most food trucks interesting, instead of the boring menus(and food) you find in too many eating establishments. Their menu includes various barbeques, tacos, short ribs, «borsch»(which I think is a deviation from borscht– Ukrainian soup), and sides like chili garlic slaw and white/fried rices. After looking things over for a long period of time, I decided to try the smoked Russian shaurma which for an extra dollar(worth it) comes with tender and flavorful beef brisket, pickled radishes, rice with jalapenos, and a zesty smoked mayo which excited my taste buds! I topped it off with crispy egg rolls, which although was fairly greasy and appeared to have a spinach dip variation in the middle, was still pretty decent in taste. Overall, a fairly good experience, although if you’re not careful you can be overwhelmed with a meal that has an excess of grease and heavy dressing(read– this is NOT health food!). Also, beware that the vendors may not be good at providing correct change– they shorted me around 60 cents in my transaction, which may require me to go back and get a credit for my missing rubles!

It been awhile and this place deserves another star from my original review. I’ve since been back and tried most of their dishes to include«Smoked Russian Shaurma» and«Smoked BBQ ‘Sandwhich’» which was given a Banh Mi sandwich treatment. As well as their egg-rolls which are filled with smokey meat and the«Alaskan Frybread Taco» which was tasty, but a bit of a mess to eat — however, doesn’t most BBQ fall into this category? Today I tried the«Brisket Chili» and it was delicious. Perhaps a few more beans than are to my liking, but the flavor was great the brisket succulent. I also got the Far East Combo with smoked chicken. This places always hit’s it out of the park on «smoke flavor»(without tasting scorched or burnt) and I appreciate that in my BBQ. With friendly owners and consistently executed, and good food the extra star was well(and easily) earned by Urban Bumpkin!

I love checking out new food trucks! Saw that this food truck was in the Courthouse area, so decided to give it a shot. I got the Alaskan Frybread tacow/chicken and a side of eggrolls. Alaskan Frybread — beautiful presentation with the cole slaw and frybread. Looked like a big taco salad. Smelled great too! Got compliments as people walked by my desk. My only complaint is the bread is tough to eat if you don’t eat it right away. There may have been 15 min between walking from the food truck and getting to my desk and situated to eat. By then, the bread was soggy and not fluffly like I was imagining. The flavor of the chicken was delicious, good seasoning. Great spice for the cole slaw. Eggroll — I didn’t ask what was inside until I already ordered. I assumed since they had Vietnamese coffee and thai bubble tea that it would be a standard veggie or meat eggroll. Not at all… spinach dip and bacon. It was delicious, but I definitely think they should reconsider calling it a spinach roll or something to indicate it’s not a traditional eggroll. Would definitely try other things on the menu since everything was quick, made to order and seemed fresh.

You can’t help but wipe a little drool off your mouth when you walk past this place cause we sure did. BBQ’d and seasoned meat? Yes please. The Sampler was tender and moist Asian chicken, chicken and pork piled over top a bed of rice and some cole slaw. I honestly couldn’t taste the flavors across the three meats, but still tasty nonetheless. Decently quick service. Only thing I would say is that it is a tad overpriced when comparing meat ratio to dollars. Def worth another go.

Interesting lineup on this truck from BBQ to Banh Mi. I ordered the Alaskan Asian Brisket taco for $ 10. Brisket was a little lean which was a shame. The sauce and toppings on the Asian Brisket are Banh Mi influenced with some pickled veggies and cilantro. The star of this concoction however is the Alaskan fried taco bun. Akin to a very chewy doughy fried doughnut. Slightly undercooked to perfection! Perhaps with a different topping this could be a go-to for me. Overall pretty good, I’d give them another shot and they cook quickly so the line moves fast.
