This was the best Italian beef hands down and the garlic set it off!!! The fries are awesome. I don’t recommend the cheese because it’s water down but my husband and I loved it. Amazing!!!

Bought a Groupon for the Beef Shack last night. So I decided to take my dad there for the first time. After driving 30 mins to get there and order they rudely tell us we must have the Groupon printed out… This is not how Groupon works. It states clearly I can redeem this on my phone or print it out for redemption. Why advertise this way if you cannot accept it? Food was good thou.

I remember the day Beef Shack came to town. Every since it’s been a mutually rewarding experience. I enjoy cheap beefs and the occasional double dog w fries. Grade A restaurant.

After years of not even considering this place as an option, here I am! Does the«Beef Shack» actually live up to its name? «Absolutely»! Indeed, the footprint is the size of a shack… with a very limited menu. You«absolutely» have to respect that. Keep the fluff, «gimme some beef»! The beef is fantastic while the fresh cut fries are greasy perfection. Put that combo on a fresh toasted«Turano» roll slathered with garlic butter; you may have just experienced the premium beef sandwich in the western suburbs! If you like your beef«dipped» in steamy gravy, and who doesn’t…I’d think about it.

Food here is extra fresh and really good. The fries are fresh cut and they are not cheap with the beef. If they weren’t so cheap with the hot peppers I would have given them a 5 star for sure. Other than that real yum

I love this place. I only get to go their from time to time. But the food is simply amazing and the staff I super friendly. If you are ever in the area my suggestion is to take time to eat at this place. It is average priced and yet the food is fantastic.

The beef sandwiches are excellent. This time I had the Angus burger but even with«everything» on it there seemed to be nothing on it and so I was very disappointed. I had a voucher $ 20 of food for $ 10. That was the reason why I stopped by. I get to the counter and they tell me they only except printed vouchers. Seemed like a scam to me. In this day and age no one prints anymore — it’s all scanned right from your phone so I didn’t understand why and they couldn’t explain it to me. After showing my disappointment they eventually took down the voucher number and agreed to honor it. I want to add that a «printed» voucher was not a condition to the voucher. I would suggest to the owner that he get with the program and honor soft copy vouchers, otherwise, don’t offer them at all.

It’s been over 3 years so I guess I’m due for a review of my previous review. An updated review. Incidentally, I just made it back after 3 years for the first time. We just live 20 minutes away and pass 1000 food places so never really make it down this way. But we did today. I read my last review and wanted to experience the glory again. Of course, I’m not sure what happened. It wasn’t glorious. Sure, it was good, but no better than the average hotdog stand. I enjoyed that the Italian beef came on garlic bread. Not as juicy this time; last time it was so juicy I left a permanent stain in my car. Not as juicy is good, but I still wanted a bit more. The peppers were good. Cheese was melted and applied on top, but in a way that it came off in one count when I took a bite. Fries were good, albeit very greasy. The cheese sauce that came with them was liquid, the consistency of foamed milk. Not the greatest for dipping. Seems like they maybe wanted to just stretch what they had. I found 1 – 3 hairs in my fries which was disappointing as well. Definitely less pleased this time. It made me think… in 3 years did Beef Shack change or have I changed? I’m assuming both.

Well today I went to the new Buona Beef on 64 and must say I think the Beef Shack doesnt need to worry. Beef Shack beefs are far tastier. I am personally not a fan of french fries, but I know many people like the fresh cut. Hope to see Beef Shack continue to prosper.

I feel compelled to encourage everyone who is thinking about trying the«new» beef place that just opened down the street to skip it and come to Beef Shack instead. Beef Shack is only worth going to for 2 things– Italian Beef and the fresh cut fries(actually, I’ve never had anything else, but why mess with perfection?) The beef is tender, juicy and with melted cheese on it, just heaven. They run the sandwich through the oven to melt the cheese and put a crisp on the roll, so you get that perfect blend of crunchy, chewy, cheesy, beefy goodness in every bite. The fries come in a brown paper bag with dark stains to indicate freshness,(to paraphrase Garrison Keillor). You have to eat them right away or don’t bother. These kind of fries are perfect when hot, but a disaster if cold. My only complaint is that they charge extra for hot peppers!

I have not tried the beefs. I just can’t bring myself. I eat out a lot, but try to eat healthier while doing so. So guess what I ate here… yep, the chopped salad. Definitely a Portillo’s knock off. For the size and price, it’s really good. The dressing is more of a red wine creamy vinaigrette, different than the afore mentioned establishment’s dressing, but good. I’ve had this a few times now. I’ve also tried the fries. I know, not a ‘healthier’ choice, but a girl has to indulge here and there. I like to indulge in carbs over red meat. The fries are the greasiest ever. Guess what that means? Yep, they are good. Make sure they have enough salt and then if you are feeling really naughty, ask for a side of the vinaigrette for dipping. It’s sinful and delicious. The food I had was good, so why only four stars? The logistics of this location stink. The parking lot more than stinks, the seating is scarce, the pop machine is in a terrible spot and there is no drive through. This place would make so much more money in a different STC spot… at least that’s what I think would happen ;-)

Stopped in with a hot dog craving so this is a HOTDOGONLY review. Basic little place you’d drive right by if you weren’t looking for it… and I was looking for it thanks to Unilocal and my craving. Read a few rave reviews for their beef sandwiches and figured the dogs would be good. As the two stars says, «Meh. I’ve experienced better.» What my mind was thinking of was a perfect Portillo’s hot dog. What I got was… I dunno. I ordered the double dog which came with fries for less than $ 5. Sounded like a good deal. What I didn’t count on was the fries(nice and salty, btw.) being served all in and over the hot dog. I took it to go and was driving. There was no chance of eating my dog and nibbling away at the fries at my leisure. The only way to get TO the dog was by eating through all of those fries and waiting for a light so I could unearth the dogs from the rest of the mound. What I discovered was unimpressive. Two hot dogs in fry-grease-sogged bun with mustard and onions. Where was the ketchup I’d ordered(Shut it! I like ketchup and don’t want to hear your nonsense about Chicago and authenticity.) I can’t say I’d go back because I don’t usually eat this kind of food but when I do, I want it to match my mental picture… and this doesn’t. …but it may sound like EXACTLY what you’re hankering for! lol The service was quick and extremely friendly.

amazing italian beef! best in a 50 mile radius at least, but the wait for food is sometimes stupid for a fast food joint. stop in and give this place a try! correction just wasn’t able to purchase food due to them not accepting credit/debit cards. wasted my entire lunch waiting in line and no food.

The place is not very big but my review is strictly for the food. I thought the fries were exceptional but the beef left me disappointed. I ordered a beef dipped and hot. The meat was tender but flavorless. The bun was more like a soft dinner roll in texture and taste but I like a Gonellas style French roll which is crusty and firm. This was spongy and soft. I did think the giardiniera was average. There was a good supply of beef on the bun. Maybe the burger or hotdog with the good fries?

I’m a portillos beef advocate till the day I die, BUT this place is realllyy good. Close second. Small place with about seating for 20 people inside. I have only ever ordered to go though. Simple menu; beefs, hot dogs and burgers plus one size fits all fries.:) I order the mini cheesy beef with hot peppers and it is great The meat is tender and very flavorful, and as others have said the gravy is amazing. They also use Turano bread. The fries are fresh cut and fried, a little too greasy for my taste though. The good thing is that the cheese sauce for the fries is excellent, not fake nacho cheese like most places, it really seams like fresh cheddar sauce. Another positive; they also have a special sauce to go with the fries which is amazing as well. For me, its not better than portillos. but I’ll be back.

My husband and I visited Beef Shack last week and loved it. We both had the garlic bread beef sandwiches and, although I probably won’t have the sandwich on garlic bread again(just a little too garlicky for me), we will definitely be back. The inside is small, but the tables are nice and the place is definitely a few notches up from a «shack».
