Yesterday I thought I died and went to Quilter’s Heaven… not the«real» heaven, but a special place for people who quilt, sew, and machine embroider. It was an hour drive to get there, but Lillie’s Quilting Loft was by far and away the best quilting shop I’ve been to in the Central Florida area. Now I will grant you that, I’m a novice quilter and my mother, who has been quilting for years, may not be quite as impressed when I take her there, but I’m betting she will be. The store was bright and cheerful, the selection of yard goods both extensive and unique, pattern and quilting books by the dozens, completed items on display all over the place and staff that was the friendliest I’ve seen since I went to the Picket Fence in San Benito Texas – but that is just toooo far to drive for quilting supplies when you live in Central Florida. This store offers classes and their classroom area is also bright and cheerful with plenty of work room, unlike a lot I’ve seen where they are crammed into a back corner of the store. I spent a good hour in the store looking and asking questions of the clerk who was more than happy to answer all my questions, and offer me different less costly options if I was interested, but she didn’t hover over me the entire time I was there, either. They have a class schedule available, and if I find someone else willing to go with me, I think I’ll sign up and take a class for a series of weeks. Yes it’s a far drive, but if it’s a Saturday a.m. class, it’s no problem, and it will be worth it. I gotta tell you, this is THE place to go if you are a quilter. For all of my out of state friends and family who quilt, bring your wallet when you come because this is one place you won’t want to miss.
