It pains me to ding a Vienna Hot Dog, but I feel it is in the best interest of all if I point out a few shortcomings. First, the hot dog was not steamed, rather it had grill marks. This in itself is not a bad thing, but the dog was a tad rubbery. Second, the bun. While it was poppy seed, it was not steamed either, and thus it was a bit dry. Third, the celery salt went on a tad heavy, and so this dog was salty. Forth, and I did not realize until I left — But the menu said $ 3.25 for a Chicago Dog, yet I was charged $ 3.75. Other than that, the dog was close to what it needed to be(see photo), but there is a lot of room for improvement. Lastly, and not affecting this review, is I don’t know how you are supposed to find this place, let alone park. There is no signage out front(did I mention that the Beachside Café is located behind the Plaza Beach Hotel, in the«HUGE» tiki hut?), and even if you drive in, the signs warn that parking is for hotel guests only, which by the way, seemed to be the only patrons. I arrived by bicycle(after a tip from a now local, but also a Chicagoan), so no big deal… So perhaps the captive audience thing will work, but for non-hotel guests(especially those looking for a taste of home) the dogs do need to be improved. Lastly sausages, soft drinks and ice cream bars are also available… So it’s not a horrible option if you are nearby, but you don’t have to wander too much farther for better food options for the buck.
