I found the restaurant on Unilocal.Saw overwhelmingly positive reviews on Unilocal and Facebook. My husband and I pulled up to the restaurant, saw a steady stream of customers come out of the restaurant. Thought that was a good sign. Ordered some sort of combo that had tacos. It was recommended by the waitstaff, saying it was popular. I’ll just break it down to good and bad. Pros: The waitress was very friendly. Seemed reasonably attentive. One also has the opportunity to support a Mom-and-Pop establishment. Décor had that college town divey feel. Cons: Super Americanized Mexican food. Not fusion-experimentalist-I’m-cool-like-Bobby-Flay Americanized, but ketchup-with-your-Taco-Bell Americanized. Environment felt strangely cliquey. I can’t put my finger on why. To each his/her own. This is just my opinion. The beef tacos reminded me of something my husband would make using one of those Taco Bell kits sans the seasoning. Note I said«sans.» Plenty of people seem to love the food, but it was really bland to me. I reached for the hot sauce. No hot sauce. I understand not having the verde sauce, but… There were *ketchup bottles* on the tables in lieu of hot sauce. I’ll admit, that was a new one for me. No queso blanco or other Mexican topper on my food. Plain shredded cheddar instead. I hate to waste food, but I went through probably a fourth to a little less than half of my entrée before calling it quits. Price… Meh. A little more than other Mexican places. Portion sizes were average or smaller than most Mexican restaurants. The restaurants I’m referencing are family owned and operated by Mexican families with Mexican staff. Not chains. So not really Mexican. If that’s your thing, go on ahead and rock that. But take the«authentic» off the signs.

Really tasty, not too expensive. I got the los chaves special which was like a tasting platter. Tons of food for the money and arrived pretty quickly. The staff was friendly and attentive.

The food was delicious! I had the Hawaiian Fajitas which I would highly recommend. The chips are homemade and the salsa was very fresh. This was our first time there and we will definitely go back.

We went here last night for dinner based on the other reviews. They weren’t lying, this place is great! Best mexican food in town. We have two toddlers as well and they both ate it up. We will definitely be back to this place!

Enjoyed a great dinner with my wife this evening at Los Chavez. Their salsa is fantastic. Chicken Nachos were a great start, came with a tasty cheese sauce, lettuce and jalapeño peppers. Had a combo plate with taco and shredded beef burrito, delicious. My wife had the«Ultimate Quesadilla» with beef and chicken which she almost finished, just enough left to take home. Service was fast and very friendly even though they were busy. Will be coming back.

I have been to just about every Mexican restaurant in the area and I have to say, Los Chavez is my favorite! I love that their beans are whole and not processed to mush like most other places. Their cheese dip is to die for with jalapenos chopped up tiny to add a little kick! The salsa is made fresh daily and you can take a jar of it home… which I have been known to do! I have never had bad service… it has always been top notch; very friendly, helpful, polite, and quick! Plus…they deliver to a certain mile range of their location. The only mexican place I know of that does that… plus when it gets to you, it is still hot. They even go ahead to think about how nachos get mushy if they are assembled so they package everything seperately!

My daughter & I were here for suppertime on a Thursday. We were seated right away and given menus and beverages ordered. The fare seems pretty standard. I had a chimichanga, my daughter had tacos fritos. We ordered nachos as an appetizer. You have a choice of seasoned ground beef, shredded beef, pork or chicken. I ordered the ground beef and my daughter, the shredded beef. When we got our food they had switched it. The nachos we ordered with the ground beef. The salsa is very good. Different than I’ve tasted any where else. You can order to take home and I did see someone come in with a mason jar just to get the salsa. I don’t care for ‘heat’ in my food though I can eat it if it’s mild. My entrée was too ‘hot’ for my taste and I opted to save it for the doggie bag.(I ate it today and enjoyed it). The shredded beef was so tender! Very tasty too. We agreed both types of meat were good. The tortillas/chips were good. You have the choice of two sides. I had beans and rice, she had black beans and rice. I would pass on the sides next time. I’m used to my beans being like refried beans. Our waitress was attentive and kept us in soft drinks without having to ask. The building appears to have been a Pizza Hut at some point. The inside is black with a hot pepper motif. We live about a half hour away so unless we were in the area I doubt we return. Overall we enjoyed our food.
