I was extremely disappointed in Laniakea Salon and Spa today. I had called yesterday and had made an appointment for a haircut and a massage for today. Last night I received a call telling me that the massage therapist would not be available at the appointment time but I could get my massage after 6:00 p.m. That was not good for me so I cancelled that appointment and left my hair appointment. I arrived for my 12:30 hair appointment on time and was respectfully greeted and«logged in». I have been coming to this spa since May to get my hair done(I am a 68-year old male) and have had great experiences there and watched the salon undergo a total remodel and go through new ownership. I have thoroughly enjoyed the changes made and looked forward to continuing my relationship with this spa. The receptionist informed me that there had been a price increase and that it would now cost me $ 30 to get my hair cut. I said very curtly that was not going to happen today or any day in the future and left. My hair cuts from May through October cost me $ 13 each plus a tip. In November the price increased to $ 18 plus a tip. That represented a 38.5% increase. Then one month later the price increased by another 66.6% to $ 30. That represents a WHOPPING130.8% INCREASE since I began going there in May. I fully understand the need to increase prices in light of the remodeling accomplished and to remain competitive. I would have thought that the price increase could have been mentioned to me the night before when I was informed that the massage therapist was unavailable for my massage. But there was never mention of a senior discount, a military discount, or some other assistance. My wife and I had been debating making the Laniakea Salon our choice for our monthly manicures, pedicures, eyebrow waxes, haircuts and permanents. But we can ill afford these prices. It should be noted that the Social Security increase for 2016 is a WHOPPING0% due to the cost of living remaining flat. It should be obvious that calculation does not include getting your hair done at the Laniakea Salon and Spa which will be true in my case since I rely on my social security. I wish the salon the absolute best in the future but I believe that you may be overpricing your services.
