This was my 3 boys favorite place years ago! They loved the cheese Danish! I’d take them some home when they were not with me and surprise them!!!

The cream cheese Danish from Sweet Mama’s is a can’t miss item on my list. Some of their cake squares can be a little too sweet for my taste, but they are moist and fresh. They have several sweet options on offer every day in the bakery case, you never know what you might find to satisfy your sweet tooth.

As soon as we got here… The gentleman ahead of us ordered pork pops… They said they were out, then he ordered biscuits… They said they were out. He left. We ordered biscuits, was told it’ll be a five minute wait. We ordered and waited. The next person to come in and order, ordered pork pops… They were available. Not the brightest staff. Too much weed before work I think. Before our order came out, we were told they only had one egg left, our order required two… When I asked for the 75 cent refund of the difference I got a confused look. Eventually got it. I’m not going back to this place. Ever. Food was blah.

Unilocal seems to have frequent mapping issues it’s frustrating when it doesn’t show the business in the right location anyway this is the wrong location I’m not sure that maybe that with Darian there’s a mama jeans and Darian but they’re closed.

Best breakfast on the island since Dressners on the island sold out! Try the Pork Pops– very similar to a sausage ball! Bacon Biscuits and Blueberry Muffins are just as good. Family atmosphere that hasn’t been overrun with tourists!

I have only visited once but the cake squares were delicious! We tried the pound cake and red velvet. The staff was also friendly and helpful in making my choices… would definitely recommend to satisfy your sweet tooth!

After nearly an hour of trying to find this location, we hung in there– and found it in the Winn Dixie shopping Center!!! We were enthused by the reviews which kept us looking. Once here though the goodies were sparse, about 5 choices. So it was noon maybe they had more earlier. I had a cranberry muffin that was light and tasty. Coffee was nothing special. Service at the counter just ok, the you g guy cleaning crumbs on the carpet was the friendliest! I had bites of my husband’s Cuban sandwich and it was amazing!

Had the hardest time finding SMs, because it is now located in the Winn– Dixie Shopping Center. Unfortunatelt, both Unilocal and Trip Advisor still have it down the road on Frederica Ave. Their coffee is brewed but good. Their pastries are just as good as the reviews promise. I was hungry and it was pretty close to lunch so I ordered a Cuban sandwich. It was hot, tasty, and loaded with pork. While the seating area was close to empty, there was a steady flow of locals picking up orders to go. The staff are laid back and friendly but the service is quick and efficient. There certainly is a reason the locals love this place.

Pork poppers are a must! Only thing they don’t have on the menu is a side of Lipitor, if you do not like butter this place is not for you. located in the plaza with bonefish, Winn Dixie, etc. on Google maps it took us to their old location fyi

If I could give this place 3.5 stars I would. It’s ok. First I went there because of those famous pork pops! Yes, those are amazing! I saw in the restaurant they were $ 4 a dozen. OK, sounds good, I got 2 dozen. I wanted mine frozen so I could take them home. I also ordered a BLT and a side of veggie beef soup and sweet tea. The BLT was really nice. Very fresh, flavorful tomato and crispy bacon. The bread was soft and fresh. Maybe not the best BLT I’ve ever had, but right up there. The soup was pretty standard… nothing to write home about. So, I check out $ 26.00! What the heck? Apparently, if you want your pork pops frozen, that drives the price up to $ 7.20 a dozen! Uhh… so I cook them myself and they DOUBLE in price?! I still got them, but I thought that was kinda steep. The BLT was $ 6.50…only side included is a pickle by the way. No chips, nothing. You pay extra for that. Soup was $ 2.50. Wish I would have saved my money on that. I guess my tea was around $ 2 and the rest is tax I assume. So, overall good food. Service was fine, décor could use some help. I would go back.

We stopped by around 15 minutes before they closed at 2:30PM and managed to get some Key Lime cake, apple turnover, and a blueberry muffin. Key Lime cake is a pound cake with key lime flavoring and very good icing. If you go late enough, the breakfast items are also buy 1 get 1 free so definitely a great place to go in terms of price and deliciousness!

Sweet Mama’s is a St. Simons Island tradition. I was referred to this restaurant by one of my good friends whose wife’s family is from St. Simons. The recommendation was spot-on because the food I tried was delicious. I visited on a Saturday morning and the restaurant received a steady stream of customers, mostly locals with a lot of take-out orders. The restaurant can be hard to find if you don’t know where to look. It’s in the Winn-Dixie shopping center and it faces away from the street, so you won’t see the restaurant until you drive into the parking lot and explore a little. If the 1627 Frederica Road address doesn’t work for you, try 98 Retreat Plaza. This is a simple, casual, no frills restaurant. There isn’t much to speak of when it comes to atmosphere or ambiance. The interior amounts to a single office-like, strip mall space with a glass display case for baked goods and pastries, an ordering/food prep counter, and a bunch of easily movable small tables in the dining area. Sweet Mama’s is only open for breakfast and lunch, Monday-Saturday, 6:45am to 2:30pm. The menu consists of sandwiches(breakfast and lunch), muffins, buns, danishes, doughnuts, bagels, cookies, and cakes. They also have salads, a soup of the day, and housemade chili. Expect to spend anywhere from $ 2.50 to $ 4.50 for most breakfast items and $ 6.50 to $ 9.50 for most lunch items. I had a «Meat, Cheese & Egg Biscuit»($ 4.50) and some Pork Pops($ 0.60 each). The meat, cheese, and egg biscuit consisted of a flaky biscuit with a round sausage patty, a thin slice of cheese, and a thick egg patty. The egg wasn’t prepared in typical egg breakfast sandwich fashion. It looked steamed(or something). The sandwich was fresh, delicious, and filling. The sausage meat was savory and the egg was light and fluffy. The Pork Pops are a Sweet Mama’s signature item. They are small, almost bite-sized pieces of bread, sausage, bacon, and cheese. I saw customers ordering this by the boat load. Well, maybe not boat load, but plate load. 12 pops here, 12 pops there. They were tasty and addictive. At one point, the kitchen ran out of pops. I noticed some of the foods were reheated in a microwave prior to serving. Service is, for the most part, efficient. You pick up your order at the counter no matter if dining in or taking out. If on St. Simons Island, I recommend this joint.

Best. Sweets. Ever. I get the red velvet and chocolate-whatever-it-is bars every time I come to GA if I get my way. Every single one of the sweets I’ve tried has always been amazing. The hours are crazy(I have no idea when they’re open– I just sort of drive by and stop in when I see cars there.) But it’s worth hunting them down.

My Mom grew up in St. Simons so we went to the island quite a bit when I was growing up. One of the most memorable things was sweet mamas and the pork pops. I absoutely love them. It is a must if you are visiting for breakfast. They are these wonderful little biscuits filled with cheese, pork, and bacon. YUM. If this second location ever closed I will be heartbroken.

You CANNOT go to SSI and not go to Sweet Mama’s. They have the best baked goods. Get a cookie. Get a pastry, Get a Pork Pop, or a piece of cake. When I lived on the Island, I was in this place at least 3 times a week. They also use to serve ice cream– not sure if they still do. Don’t gorge yourself on a big seafood dinner– remember to save room for the deliciousness of Sweet Mama’s. They also do deli sammies. But I cannot say that I have ever had one.
