Went there last week as a goodbye lunch for a work colleague. Service was awful. Food came out very late — several people had to leave after an hour and still had not gotten their entrees. It took them 90 mins to serve entrees with no apology or acknowledgements the salads were drenched in dressing and the $ 10 add on chicken and salmon were the size of my pinky. I will never go here again and do not recommend it.

We won’t be returning here. The ambience was nice. I really like how the place looks. However, the service was slow and the food lacked flavor. I realize sometimes you may come on a bad night or some such thing, and perhaps we’ll give Bar Rosso another chance some time.

We went to Bar Rosso after work for a small office gathering. It’s a nice medium sized place tucked away on spring street right in front a parking lot which is really convenient. We stayed pretty much at the bar drinking and taking some appetizers all along. Tried fried parmesan, calamari and 3 different kinds of pizza. All food items were quite good and appetizing. The Stella I took from the tap tasted and smelled a bit funny. Figured out it was the glass that was to blame. I would recommend this place.

I can’t remember ever having such a horrible dining experience AND I must warn people that I got pretty sick last night(and all today!) and am pretty certain it was the food. I did not drink too much! I ordered a dry vodka martini from the bar. It came out dirty. Ok fine, not everyone has such specific requirements for a martini. No problem. I’ll mention though that in the past here, I would have gotten a good martini. The hostess tried to sit my date and me at what was obviously the worst table — a 4 person table right near the door and her hostess stand. I suggested the other tables and she was able to seat us there. There were spotlights in my eyes(why???) and I asked if the waiter could fix it since he saw that there were lights in everyone else’s eye too. Maybe an hour later he turned them down a bit. Meanwhile, there was a loud, disruptive banging sound coming out of the kitchen. Again, why? It didn’t seem like anyone made an effort to create a nice experience! There were all those customers in the restaurant who made an effort to get dressed, go out, and chose this restaurant to have their dinner. It’s insulting! The food — so horrible. I used to come here years ago and the food and menu was actually pretty decent! Simple, but fresh and tasty. I can’t talk too much about the food because the thought of it is still making me feel sick. From other reviews, I think maybe there was a change in management. The people that own Volta and Capriccio own this place too. Maybe that wasn’t always the case? Either way, I already have stopped going to the other places because they are dirty and the service is immature and unskilled. Had I known, I wouldn’t have come here either and I am suffering hugely today. :(

FOODPOISONING! My fiancé and I came in last night first for drinks at the bar then a seated dinner. We had: Bottle of Sicilian Wine: Very Good Brussels Sprouts: Good but so rich Fries: Standard Lamb Chops: Good and fatty Tagliatelle: Good but so rich Chocolate Cake: Good I liked the food but it was so rich for the most part. Service was fine. My One Star Review? Both the lady and I had intense FOODPOISONING all night! We barely slept and had to vomit and had diarrhea almost every hour during the night. Today is such a beautiful day and had plans to enjoy it. It’s almost 3pm and I’m still in bed suffering from this poison. I haven’t eaten anything since last night and just drinking water and juice to stay hydrated. I have not vomitted in over 15 years. Never Bar Rosso again.

Nice restaurant & bar. But I will not recommend this place, being that this is my second time here, and once again having a terrible experience. I decided to give this place a second chance. My friends and I were out for dinner hoping to have a nice one. We first waited to get seated for an hour when we were told it would take a few minutes. We waited a total of almost two hours to get seated and served. This place was not crowded at the time we arrived. There was tables available but the servers there had no common sense in putting tables together to accommodate our group of seven people. After we were seated, we waited to order our food for so long as well as to get it. It took them so long to get our orders in that we got our food by the time they were getting ready for closing. Not only that but every time we needed something we had to go out looking for our server. I have never given a terrible review before but this restaurant sure deserved it.

I come to this place all the time for dinner and never reviewed it for some reason. The food is almost always perfect, with the exception of my roasted potatoes last night– I couldn’t taste much seasoning other than parsley, which I think is too bold, but the salmon was delicious. The service is pretty good there. Once the server forgot to put in our appetizer, and instead just brought out the entrees. I was kind of upset, but I quickly got over it when I remembered that it gave me room for dessert. The waitress brought me the wrong drink last night, but quickly fixed it. Other than that, the servers are always attentive and very polite. I love this place!

Well, 9 months later we returned. Specifically, because my girl liked the Eggplant Parm entrée last visit. We checked their menu, online, to make sure it was available. Well, Eggplant confirmed, called, reservation made, drive, parked, sat down, checked menu and«Guess what?» We were told: «Oh, it’s on the menu online… Followed up by the customarily insincere; «I apologize». Sure, some people would order something else, but downtown Stamford has boatloads of restaurants within a 5 min walk. So it was a nice night for a walk. After 2 visits, I get the feeling this establishment is run by an absentee owner. Lot of sizzle, no eggplant.

I almost never write reviews, but my experience at Bar Rosso last night was so bad that I have to write one. I went in with a group of friends for restaurant week, and it was horrible across the board… the hostess didn’t acknowledge or seat us(we just grabbed our own table after 10 minutes of waiting), service was terribly slow, food came out at different times, was wrong, and was NOT good. The joke at our table was that they’d need to refill the salt shaker because we were all using it to add some kind of flavor to the steak. My friend who ordered the swordfish had the opposite problem — it was way too salty and inedible. Then, dessert came out — chocolate mouse cake that was frozen solid, and fruit sorbet covered in freezer burn. The server was nice enough, and was clearly doing his best… but the worst part of the whole experience came when we asked to speak to the manager. The server went to get him, came back 10 minutes later and said«I’m sorry, but he’s too busy to talk to you.» Meanwhile, the owner was sitting 5 feet away from us at the bar, clearly overhearing our issues, and did nothing to address it. In the end, we paid our bill and walked out — followed closely by the manager who was now suddenly available to talk to us — after we had paid. I have enjoyed Bar Rosso for years, but last night’s dinner and the awful service by the manager and the owner completely turned me off — I will not return to this place or to the other restaurants owned by him — Volta, Capriccio, and DiMare Downtown(he’s a partner). I hope Bar Rosso turns things around.

GREAT drinks and specials for happy hour. the ambiance is especially nice here. Bartenders are attentive. Love the Italian vibe of the place and open air seating. Having gelato next door and demare bakery not a problem wither. Welcome to stamford’s little Italy.

Ambiance was warm and cozy. At 7pm on Saturday, restaurant was hopping. Waiters were attentive and friendly. Appetizers and food took an extraordinarily long time to arrive. Greek salad was very good. Caesar Salad was average. The Endive salad was inedible — overpowered my mustard dressing and had to be returned.(Noted they didn’t take the cost of the salad off the bill.) The house burger was delicious as were the fries. Sausage Pizza and Margherita pizza were good but arrived cold. Cocktails, unlike the food, came in the hurry. Noted that drink server on 2nd glass of wine brought the wrong wine and it had to be returned. Given lengthy delays, waiter was kind enough to bring each of us a glass of champagne on the house. Bottom line, food and timeliness was a miss. Until this is fixed, we won’t be back.

Great space, poor quality food at too high a price. Room is outstanding, service is acceptable, but food quality and quantity are not. Not good value, especially when compared to Tappo which offers a very similar dining experience.

Stay away from the calamari, that’s what brought down my review. But oh those pizzas! Love the one with prosciutto and mushrooms — simply divine. The outdoor seating during the warmer months is wonderful, the waitstaff is really attentive and the bartenders make an excellent cosmo.

Awful service and food. Caesar salad dressing was extremely fishy, bruschetta bread was hard and stale and we had poor service. I’m only giving this establishment 2 stars because the sangria was good.

5 or 7 years ago this would have been one of the best restaurants in Stamford, but now it’s just a place where you can get semi-italian food. My guess is that this is a pizza bar. Calamari is fine. Lamb chops are fine. Salads are fine. This is a restaurant that you go to when you are not inspired. It’s always dead when I visit, too. Weird. My wife loves it but I cannot see how it makes any money. But it does have a big TV if you want to ignore your party and watch something. Nice staff. They have a decent selection of wine by the glass.

I have to admit, my first experience was so awful that I never planed to come back here, but my love for soccer and the desire to watch the US game made me come here since it was the only plane with tables available in front of a big screen. This time the service is great, Barbara and Amanda worked as a team and made our night memorable, eve though USA didn’t win, we will be back for sure next Sunday! ½ bottles of wine and great antipasto! Good job Bar Rosso, you redeemed yourself! FYI I’m not giving 5 stars just because our previous experience

As a frequent patron, I had never had a complaint before until yesterday early evening(Wednesday) when I went there to meet up with my girlfriends at the bar. First of all, the bartender, named Sal, who was very good looking, just hung out and stood in front of this one customer talking to him at the bar most of the time when we were there. We figured that they may be friends. A good bartender walks around the bar and talks to every customer and his tips would reflect that. Our bartender last night did none of that except with his one buddy sitting at the bar. Secondly, I had the worst mussels in the world last night. I ordered the same dish before, and it came with a few slices of bread dipped in the sauce. It was fantastic and kept me wanting for more. Last night I ordered it again and it was beyond disgusting. It was so overcooked that the meat shrank and became so chewy. And, the bread sticks were missing. The bartender did not even bother to check on how I felt about the food until I volunteered my feedback before I left. If it had been my first visit there, I would not have wanted to ever come back. Service was so mediocre and the food was bad. I had spent my birthday there, hung out there with girlfriends, and had a date night in there before. They were all great memories. Last night just killed it. I walked out feeling pretty let down and not too happy.

I’m so disappointed, Bar Rosso. I still love your bread. I still love your bruschetta. But I don’t love your main course, which is the true judge for a restaurant to me. I had the tuna, ordered rare, delivered medium rare. It was supposed to have some breadcrumbs crumbs, but instead it had some smokey mixture of spices that just overpowered the fish, and plain did not taste good. I couldn’t even finish it. And what’s the deal with hearts of palm here? They just don’t taste good enough to be a garnish on every meal. Service was so slow, and inattentive. Not a fan. I’d come back for the bread, but that’s about it.
