I ordered delivery for my son’s birthday party the night before. When no one had shown up 20 minutes after the scheduled delivery time, I called them, and after asking where the pizza was, the woman asked me to hold, and I could clearly hear her say«It’s not made yet?» to a coworker. She then tell me «It’s just leaving now.» It took another 20 minutes to arrive– clearly she had lied to me, since the delivery spot was a 5-minute drive. So they forgot my order, lied about it, and then offered no discount, not even an apology. Pathetic.

This is now our go to daily italian restaurant now that we live nearby. its not fancy, the lighting is a bit on the harsh side. but the place just feels good. the food for the most part is tasty. We are finding out which dishes are special by trial and error and to the restaurant’s credit when we don’t like a dish they take it back, no questions asked. The pizza is very good, the pappardelle with sausage and peas is a standout. My wife loves broccoli rabe and when they have it she likes the dish with sausage. more on this place as we try more dishes

Maybe it was my expectations, but all I wanted was a simple slice of sausage pizza while my wife’s hair was cut next store. I ordered at the counter in the back and was asked whether«to go» or «stay.» It was an empty restaurant, 3 in the afternoon, so I decided to have the slice in the restaurant…“stay.“ I sat at the table and did a few emails, then a paper mat was placed in front of me. It was a longish 5 – 10 minutes before my slice arrived, but I was in no hurry. The slice was nice sized, with a lot of crumbled sausage on top. I could see the grease oozing over the edges and grabbed a lot of napkins. The first mini-bite was blazing hot, this needed a few minutes to cool down. Once cooled I took my first bite… there was an explosion of fennel from the sausage, little tomato and a lot grease. A full napkin was required. Each succeeding bite was more grease, a lot of the crumbled sausage, and a smattering of cheese. The crust was cracker-style, not bad, but nothing to write home about. Overall it was a greasy slice of sausage on a cracker crust, not really a pizza slice with sausage. When I was finished I returned to the counter to pay. I was told someone would bring the check to the table. I waited a couple of minutes and was given the check, handed him the money and waited again. He waited at the register as the pizza-maker took an order from another take-out customer and then a phone order. I finally received my change. I understand they want to be viewed as a restaurant, but at three in the afternoon, for a single slice, and not that good a slice, I would be hard pressed to return.

No, just no. For starters, the food here is very bland. My boyfriend got a very dry unappetizing salad to start which I refused to try. I myself ordered mozzarella sticks and had one before passing them over to him, only because he’s a human garbage disposal. They were so gross, almost all breading and luke warm-cold… No stringy cheese mozzarella sticks for me. They definitely came out of a box, but that being said the ones I get at Costco soar past these with flying colors. When the pizza came, I again was not impressed and ended up leaving hungry. I know it was the end of the night, but it’s a small place, and the server started putting up all the chairs around us. Once all the chairs were up he began vacuuming all around us!!! He even started at the table next to us! We could not have any type of conversation for ten minutes while he vacuumed! I wanted to go tell him to stop but my was convinced not to. Definitely not coming back.

Pizza heaven. It has been over 20 years since I lived in Stamford, but the best pizza in town is still here. Simple menu done right.

I have been going to Mario’s since it opened although I had not been there in 15 years because we moved. I can only say it has gotten better. The pizza has always been a staple but now they have added dozens of new items such as hot oil pizza which I had. I don’t know if they are capable of putting out a bad meal. Dana the waitress does a great job taking your order without writing anything down and delivering it as requested. I can’t remember going someplace when my wife and daughter cleared their plates(pasta). Now that we are back in the area we will be back often. It is great, fresh reasonable Italian food with great service.

Been going here for years and my order never changes. Eggplant Parm is amazing with a sweet Gorgonzola Salad — It is amazing that the server, Dana, who is EXCELLENT can remember my order with out me having to say a thing! She is also amazing how she can take all the orders with modifications, write nothing down and remembers EVERYTHING to a T! LOVE Mario’s!

Terrible service and worst food. Should have guessed when the server brought out old scratched melamine plates to serve the pizza. They brought the wrong pizza to our table when I pointed it out they did take it back. However then the server and cook proceeded to eat it in plain view while we waited for our order. The kitchen staff was constantly eating the entire time. There seemed to be no one in charge since they kept taking soda cans out of refrigerator and drinking it. Finally after another 15 minutes we got our pizza. We had ordered the special which should come with regular meats. This was slathered in onions and sauce so much so that the crust was soggy. We could not wait to finish and leave. Finally the check arrives I pay with my card and the server brings the receipt back with the«Cash tips only» scribbled in the tips section of my credit card receipt. When I asked about it the server shrugged her shoulders and said owner insists on it.

This place has phenomenal pizza. Amazing crust, delicious sauce, and great toppings. Definitely will be back when I’m in the area!

Heard about this place and their pizza, so my three friends and I decided to have dinner after a long day at the pool. Extremely tired and hungry we walked in and immediately made our way to the register because it was our first time there and we did not know if it was a sit-down restaurant or not. No one greeted us when we walked in and all they asked was whether we wanted to sit or order to go. So we sat down, and was overwhelmed by all the stares and looks of confusion from everyone in the restaurant including the employees and their customers. Our waitress Gladys was very polite but seemed extremely uncomfortable to serve us. She was very quick and discrete In conversing with us. Everyone seemed annoyed with us being there, though their first assumption was that we must of been high school students because we appeared to look much younger… when in actuality we are college graduates with children and were treated like obnoxious teenagers. Upon finishing our dinner, one of us had walked up to the register simply asking if we could receive our bill, the woman at the register rudely responded by telling us to find our server, now this sounds puzzling to us because to their dismay we are actually servers at other restaurants and would never tell our customers to look for their server. Not only is it rude but it exhibits poor customer service. Not only did we felt judged and somewhat discriminated, but we all were very polite and humble Even though we did not receive the same treatment. We could of acted upon this but we did not, actually we said goodnight to our server and left her a 40% tip…(I repeat I’m a server I give generous gratuity where it is due). I am very upset with the experience I had in this restaurant and I would hope that moving forward these employees will change their attitudes and overlook pre judgments and stereotypes. You have a very nice establishment and good food, don’t ruin it by being ignorant. To be honest, I guarantee that none of your regular clients have treated and rewarded Gladys with such respect and appreciation for what she does. Best regards.

Looking for pizza all evening and decided on Mario’s. It was the best pizza ever. Whole family enjoyed it. Pizza was thin just like mom likes it.

This has been my family’s «go-to» pizza place since I was a kid. The sauce isn’t too garlicky(which my family and I love) and it never seems to disappoint. We like all kinds, but the white with bacon pie is awesome!

A Stamford classic! We’ve been celebrating this restaurant for as long as I can remember. In all the years we’ve gone, we’ve never had a bad experience. Delicious, delicious pizza. I’m more of a thin than thick crust pizza fan but let me tell you their Sicilian is the bomb!

Their pizza is good, I’m a big fan of the Sicilian pizza. I would not recommend their other dinner items on the menu. We have ordered take out for 6 people. We have order one veal and two chicken dinners all with salad. We have also ordered three different past dinners, fried calamari, and 2 garlic breads. The portions were VERY small, not nearly dinner size portions. The containers with the meat entrée were half with broccoli and carrots with very small amount of meat. The past containers were half filled. We were very disappointed and will never order dinner from there anymore. However for pizza night we will still consider ordering from them.

The best thin crust pizza with fresh ingredients — it has always been consistent and a neighborhood favorite. There are many pizza places around but this place definitely stands out.

Ordered Mario Special. Tasty good but there was something about the taste that was weird. I dont know what it was. Service is slow. Took 50 mins to get pizza during friday late lunch time. No one was around. Pizza is only $ 16 that good price. Maybe I will go back again to try something else. Parking is limited.

Good lunch spot. Don’t go there if you are high maintenance/demanding. Good genuine food, limited menu bare-bone service. Makes a great spot to go hang out with your buddies to chat and socialize. Tip is CASH only!

I’ve grown up with Mario the Baker as my go-to pizza place. It’s definitely not gourmet, but the food they serve is very tasty. The pizzas are delicious – the crust is crunchy and there’s always a good ratio amongst the topping(s), cheese, and sauce. Usually, I choose my own toppings(I’m a big fan of their meatballs); however, I have tried a couple of the different«specialty pizzas» they serve and would recommend both the Capricciosa and Bianca pizzas. If you’re in the mood for a different type of pizza experience, Mario’s also makes a tasty Sicilian-style pizza and crisp on the outside, soft and cheesy on the inside, calzones. In addition to pizza, Mario’s offers a number of classic Italian American dishes. Like the pizzas, these dishes are, for the most part, nothing overly fancy, but tasty. The house salad is pretty basic(iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, black olives, cucumbers, red onions, a vinaigrette) but good enough. After all, it’s not really the point of the restaurant. More impressive is the garlic bread. If you’re a garlic fan, be sure to order one for the table. I’m not a big eggplant person; however, my family members all enjoy the Eggplant Rollatini and Parmesan. The Alfredo is a bit too rich for my taste – I would recommend sticking with tomato sauce dishes such as the Stuffed Shells.

Mario the Baker is a classic restaurant in Stamford that’s been around forever. Anyone who is anyone knows the owners and can usually spot a friend or two when coming out to dinner here. The food here is good, not amazing but good food. I’ve had the Chicken Marsala, Scarpariello, Baked Ravioli, Fettuccini Alfredo and Stuffed Shells when it’s a special. The Scarpariello is my absolute favorite italian dish and Mario’s makes it just right. I usually ask for extra spicy because the sauce is amazing. The salads are good, small but good enough. Sometimes they drench your salad in too much dressing but no worries, just ask for it on the side. Get the garlic bread with your meal, it’s great. Mario’s also does take-out which is pretty much the same as in the restaurant. So if you’ve had a rough day and you don’t want to dine out just get the take-out! Mario’s is wheelchair accessible and family friendly. I wouldn’t recommend coming between 4 and 6 as most family’s come in around that time and it’s super crowded and extra loud.
