Decent chicken fried and toast but not the best. Only are there because I was starving and it was convenient lol. Would eat again if had to buy not my first or second choice…

Abners obviously has decent quality food but your food will take foreverrrrr. I don’t care what time it is. I’ve been several times and it is slow even though you’re one of four people in the restaurant. After waiting so long, occasionally the food isn’t as hot and crispy as it should be. The fried chicken is put on oily fries which will be soggy and the chicken is no longer crispy. Good, but could be better.

This was my drive-thru experience. I waited at the menu board/speaker for about five minutes waiting on the employee to acknowledge me. I said«hello»(I know I’m not the only one that does that, am I?), waited a little longer and was just about to drive off when the employee came over the speaker. I placed my order… ten chicken tenders and a garden salad. Drove to the window, paid and waited and waited. Two cars were behind me. After about 8 minutes I started raising up looking in the window. A different employee saw me and«the employee» came to the window, opened it, and here’s the exchange: Employee: Do you need something? Me:(highly annoyed tone). I haven’t gotten my food! E: I don’t cook it. Me: I UNDERSTANDTHAT! Can I get my food??? E: They just brought it to me. Do you want to see the manager? Me:(thinking WTF??). NO!!! I JUSTWANTMYFOOD! Holy smokes, did I drive into another dimension when I pulled into Abner’s? In hindsight I should have talked with the manager, but I just wanted to go home! The chicken is not that good to put up with such a brilliant employee! I’ll stick with Zaxby’s and the grill on my patio!

I wish we had Abner’s at home instead of the disgusting Zaxby’s! Had Abner’s near the square in Oxford yesterday and it was the requested lunch stop today when passing through Starkville.

I drank the Kool Aid and after being told for years by Mississippi State fans about their unforgettable chicken tenders I headed over to Abner’s the day of the 2013 Egg Bowl(after eating lunch at Little Dooey) to give it a try. Honestly, I don’t know what the hype is about. Personally, it’s no different than Bojangles or Zaxby’s. Sure, they have beautiful big screen TV’s to watch games on and these chicken tenders blow places like KFC, Popeye’s, etc, out of the water, but I didn’t leave celebrating. These are good chicken tenders, but not unforgettable. Still, when in Starkville it’s part of the culture and worth a visit.

It’s okay. The chicken isn’t really that great. The only reason I ever go is for the cheap salad bar. Atmosphere and service are both above average.

I have yet to find a grilled chicken tender better than the ones served at Abner’s. They are top notch. It’s a fun place to eat at with ballgames shown on multiple tvs and the Mississippi State memorabilia packed tightly on all the walls.
