Fantastic dining experience in Starkville! The Veranda offers great fine dining from Starkville visitors and residents. Great pasta dishes and a nice selection of craft beers. Will definitely return next time in Starkville!

I have eaten at The Veranda many times, and today at lunch around 3 was the last time I will eat there. I have served tables in Starkville the past year so I know how the service industry works and this was some of the worst service I’ve had. My server told me about a catfish special served with asparagus and rice and me and the person I was with both got it and it was the worst meal we have ever had at a restaurant. The catfish had no taste, the asparagus was terrible and seemed old, there was some kind of crab topping on the fish and the rice seemed old as well. The food took more than 20 minutes to get to the table and once it was put down the server was never seen again and didn’t make a round to see if everything was good. We had to ask another server to bring us the ticket, luckily I paid with cash or who knows how long it would’ve taken to get out of there.

Best Blue Plate in the city! Great southern food for a great price! $ 12 for a drink, three sides, and a meat. Love, love sitting on the patio. Server was great also!

Was in Starkville as my daughter is starting Vet school next month. Went to Veranda our first night. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Had the Chicken Parm. which came on a bed of Pasta Alfredo. The Chicken was excellent but the pasta was only OK as the sauce, while creamy, was simply bland.

The fried Green tomato appetizer was great. As was the lobster bisque. Had the Cajun tenders. Portions were HUGE could not come close to eating it all. Plenty to share. Definately recommend those as well.

We had lunch here on graduation day. We got in at 11 and it was surprisingly quiet. The crowd show up closer to noon. We had their version of bang bang shrimp for an appetizer — it was a large serving for the price and very good. They were out of salmon(at 11!) which is what we were planning to order — bummer. I had the bowl of lobster bisque $ 7 and the grilled jalapeño pimento cheese $ 4. Both were good — esp. the bisque. Not a ton of lobster you could see but a great flavor. My sons had the entrée tuna(like the appetizer but larger) and it was excellent as usual. Husband had a good blue plate. The atmosphere is nice, prices are reasonable. The reason for 4 stars is the service was excruciatingly slow even when it wasn’t busy. We walked in at 11 and didn’t get done till 1215 due to the slow appearance of both the food and the waiter.

Service here sucks — selection stinks– portion size worse — do not order crab hush puppies — they are just hush puppies — don’t order bisque its horrible — wine is over priced — was given dirty utensils tonight –go to Harvey’s or Restaurant’ Tyler–

Overpriced but overall good food. Remoulade sauce was the highlight. Had it first with shrimp appetizer, and it was delicious. However my side salad was drowning in dressing. Lobster bisque was okay but not amazing. Crab cakes were delicious, but I wished for more than two asparagus spears. Risotto was pretty good. Portions just feel small for price. Waiter was a bit pushy at first to get us to order quickly, which may have been we were his only table at the time(we ate early). We might go back but it was too pricey for regular dining.

I’m a little mystified by all the 4-star reviews. My husband and I ate there last night and were less than impressed. I don’t feel like I’m incredibly hard to please but most of our dinner was not good. We started with the crab hush puppies. The were pretty darned good. Hot, crispy little bites accompanied by two dipping sauces, a cocktail sauce and what tasted like remoulade. This was probably the highlight of our meal. Next up for me was a Kobe burger. Again pretty tasty. The steak fries that came with it were another story. It was obvious that they had been fried up HOURS before, and had been left languishing on the counter since then. They didn’t even warm them up! They sat on my plate, cold, soggy, unappetizing, and uneaten. Fast food places give better fries for $ 1! My husband got the filet steak with mashed potatoes and asparagus. It also came with a house salad that he thought was ok. The steak was perfectly cooked to order but completely unseasoned. Once he salted it he thought it was flavorful. His sides, however, suffered the same fate as mine. Really, does anyone like their masked potatoes room temperature??? And two whole spears of asparagus(cold)? Why bother??? For $ 13 dollars I expect a good burger and hot crispy fries. For $ 29 I expect steak to order and hot delectable sides. For this price tag they should be ashamed of themselves! On the plus side, our server was polite and helpful and kept our drinks filled. I’m afraid I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant. If you insist on eating here, I’d go with an entrée that’s supposed to be cold.

I’m not one to be so quick to give 5 stars but this place was simply amazing. The food was delicious, the atmosphere cozy, and the waitress fantastic! Ordered the Cajun tenders dish and was BLOWN away at how delicious it was with all the flavors and ingredients. Great great meal that I will say was the best of my time here. It is a bit pricy but then again it is a high end place it seems. This is a place I can Easily recommend to anyone that will ever be in town. Get there and eat! Your stomach will thank you.

Wonderful food! The service left a little to be desired, but the food is absolutely amazing. Get the Cajun Chicken fingers, you won’t be disappointed

I recall coming here when I was younger and it being splendid. The service was great! I can in yesterday to have brunch. I ordered the crab cake benedict. The crab cakes were cold and tasted as if the were sitting there all morning of were failed to be heated properly. The cheese grits were wonderful. I as so disappointed by this small error. I was excited and let down.

Not sure if it was just an off-night when my husband and I dined at The Veranda, but they were out of our first picks of beer and wine. The fried green tomato appetizer was overlooked, but the crawfish topping that came with the tomatoes was amazing!!! It took a good 40 minutes to get our meal, to which our server was very apologetic over. I ordered the blackened Mahi with crab and my husband ordered the ribeye. We cleared both of our plates– both meals were delicious! Rating this restaurant 3 stars for the overcooked appetizer and super long wait time to get food.

Was looking forward to going here but was very disappointed with the very poor service. It took about 45 minutes from the time we got there to get our food. The young man that waited on us did his best but it wasn’t his table. The guy that was supposed to wait on us never came over. I always had to flag someone down to get anything. Very disappointed as this was a special outing with my mom that never gets out as I live in Missouri and don’t get down often.

Love love love The Veranda. Awesome blue plate. For dinner, they have delicious, fresh salads and all sorts of southern and Cajun-inspired specials. Try the Gorgonzola chips as an appetizer. So good.

I have lived in Starkville for 4 years while i was in school at Mississippi State and never ate here… for no particular reason. This morning after the Kentucky game I went here for brunch w the family! I ordered the salmon eggs Benedict. It had avocado on it which was a HUGE plus for me! I am 100% team avocado! The sides are fruit and cheese grits! I want to get a $ 3 Bloody Mary but they do not serve alcohol until 11am FYI so water it was for me! When my food came it looked soooo delicious AND it tasted just as delicious as it looked! The salmon and avocado was just the fresh touch that I needed! In my case the early bird does get the worm! There was SO many people waiting to be seated when we were leaving… I mean out the door of people waiting. I thought this place was very good but I dunno if I would wait in that line to be seated! I am so glad that I finally got to try this place and yes I would go back!

You want to dine here on MSU home game weekends, they have awesome specials. Since it was a game weekend I tried the bone in ribeye, crawfish mashed potatoes and asparagus. Our waiter was awesome, very friendly and knew the menu well. The food arrived and it looked and smelled amazing. The steak was cooked perfect, everything else was good as well. Even left some room for dessert, I had the chocolate cake. The cake was more of a mousse type cake so it was very rich and had the consistency of peanut butter. Overall the meal was great and I was stuffed like the crab stuffed catfish on their special menu. So after reading this you say, why only a three rating? They sell«Bulldogs eat at the Veranda» t-shirts, so I decided I’ll purchase three of them they looked pretty cool. I stood there for about five minutes while the hostess watched me looked at the shirts and said nothing to me. I told her I would like to purchase three shirts and she said he had to get a manager for the key. After ten minutes of waiting I said to her, «can you see where the manager is I have people waiting for me». She checked and said he was busy in his office, at this point I started to turn green, my feet busted out my nikes, my eyes turned green as I was about to walk back to see him. The other was just happening to walk by. I told her how long I’ve been waiting and she asked the hostess why she didn’t come to get her and of course she was speechless. Needless to saw I got my shirts them had to go buy some new nikes.

First time here and a first time out in Starkville with my woman. This place defintely is high end dinning. The décor was simple and modern. Real nice. The hostess lacked the charisma and energy. She seemed bored. However, the waiters were good. In particular our waiter, Claude, was great highly attentive and informative of the specials for the day. We ordered the jumbo crab claws with roumalade sauce. A little small for jumbo crab claws, but the flavor was good. We then ordered the veranda pasta and mardi gras pasta, which tasted like any freshly made pasta dish. The Caesar salad was not cold, it was room temp. I prefer it to be chilled, but thats okay. Overall, check this place out. I’ll definitely come back whenever its date night again.

This was my first time however when I come through Mississippi I will stop. The food was excellent. I had of course fried cat fish and it was perfect. Most tender and favorable. The Bartender gave me the peach cobbler a lot mode. Delicious! The selection of wine they had was outstanding. I can not save enough about this place. Made some great friends in my time there for supper.

Sadly I trusted the idea that i could come to a place that would offer a kind setting, great food and great atmosphere… Well unfortunately i was greeted by nothing close to kind, instead of a happy host– i was attacked by a «had better things to do today then to work,» individual He must of had a rough night of partying because he’s blood shot eyes and bad breath was not the most pleasant Then the waitress made it all the more appropriate Being Rushed is one thing but rolling eyes when we had questions made it more of a great experience Then i asked a question at the end of the meal! Why was the special fish in chips $ 20? My lovely waitress expressed with not an unattractive look on her face «Because of ALLTHESIDES!» LOL French Fries and Coleslaw are the only thing served with it 2 things?
