the guy kept taking appointments on the phone while washing my air and cutting it. Then he says .“you are taking too much of my time”. Cut was OK, but attitude was terrible.

I had a great experience getting my brows done here. I showed him what I wanted and he did it. This is a one man show and he did a great job of making feel welcome. Everything here is also very affordable. Stop by!

Mike had been my only barber in town because he’s that good. He has a personal profile with me and adjusted it until I’m fully satisfied. We stick to this profile every time so my hair maintain a high standard over three years. The price is very affordable and he is nice and focus on customer service. I fully recommend Mike and I’m sure you’ll have a good time with him.

I came from a big city so I always had lots of hair salon choices. I always had my one or two favorites in my hometown. I was hesitant about finding a new hair salon when I came to State College. A friend recommended this place to me. We had similar hair and they never messed up her hair so I thought why not? I was really glad I came here because he did an amazing job. We had a really fun conversation and the whole experience was great. The price was good too. Now that I’m no longer there, I actually miss this place.

I was recommended by friends to go to Looks salon, but after seeing that their haircuts start at $ 43, I decided to try Michael’s instead and am so glad I did. I had a great experience with Michael. He’s super friendly and very professional. The place is clean and he just got new chairs! Michael has a small dog on the premises, but the dog was really sweet and well-behaved. Before you get your hair washed, Michael will examine exactly what type of cut/layers/style you already have and ask for what you want done. If he’s not clear EXACTLY how you want your hair, he’ll ask again, which is great because I’d rather him let me know I wasn’t specific enough rather than him give me something he thinks I want. This was the first time I didn’t have to walk out of a salon telling myself my bangs will look better in two weeks. My haircut was exactly what I wanted. He takes notes of your haircut so that he can make adjustments or give you the same cut the next time you come back. He also lets you know what products he’s using on you, but doesn’t push the products at all. The prices are totally reasonable — $ 21 for shampoo, cut and basic style. He does take walk-ins, but it’s best to make an appointment. I wish I had known about this place earlier. I would absolutely recommend it to friends.

I’ve been to many places in and around town. I have never been given a better haircut. The atmosphere is fantastic. None of that«let’s awkwardly talk about sports or the weather» kind of stuff. Rob actually gets to know the people who walk through the doors here. It feels like you’re just hanging out with a friend(and getting your haircut for a lower price than the competition)

Hands-down the best place for a haircut in State College. Michael is wonderful and charges a very reasonable price. You won’t be sorry you came here.

This definitely isn’t a fancy salon but for the price you pay, you’ll definitely walk away happy. Came to Robert to get my hair trimmed/cut. Average price is around $ 18. That’s a steal especially since salons in town charge at least $ 25-$ 30. He doesn’t push products on you which is great! It’s best to make an appointment, IMO but they do talk Walk-Ins.

You know that we, Asians that come from Asian countries, not born here, have some fancy hair right? Well, it’s because of our hair type, really… So usually we won’t be able to get a good haircut if we don’t go to Japan town in San Francisco or Chinatown in Philly, because non-Asian hairdressers just don’t get it and cut our hair as if our hair can go by just with a shaver. ITCAN’T! So I was pretty skeptical when I was referred to this place, but I was so relieved when I saw that Mike used the shears scissors, used for thinning and layering the hair. Nobody, no non-Asian hairdresser or salon have ever used this in my fragile experience with non-Asian hairdressers, with nightmarish hairstyle at the end. He actually knows what he is doing! No, I am not trying to exaggerate here. He really knows what he is doing. He will ask you what kind of style you want and he will determine whether it is possible or not by your hair type. He will make a measurement at the end so on your next visit, he will use it as a reference. I brought a picture of the hairstyle that I wanted and he did it nicely. Usually I had to go to Chinatown in Philly to get this kind of hairstyle. But no more, now as long as I live in State College, Mike is the only person that would cut my hair. Why not 5 stars? Well, the 4 stars are for Mike’s friendliness and skill. The remaining star is reserved for the place and atmosphere. Not the best or fanciest place to cut your hair, but I would rather have this kind of place to have my hair cut by an awesome hairdresser than go to fancy place with unskilled barber.

I have been a customer of Michael’s for about 2 years now. He provides consistently great cuts along with all kinds of advice, such as what products to use to combat the effects of State College’s hard water. He really takes into account what kind of look you’re going for and takes great care to check for evenness. I didn’t realize what low-quality cuts I was getting until Michael showed me how good my hair could look! Clippers the chihuahua is not shy about interacting with customers and loves attention. He’ll even get under your chair as you’re getting your cut! Overall, this salon is a great asset to the downtown area, and the price($ 19) isn’t bad, either. One thing of note: they have to pay hefty credit card fees, so bring cash if you can!

I first went here with my friend to get her hair cut. I came back to get my hair trimmed and re-layered. He’s really informative about what he does with your hair. I’ll definitely come back here when i decide to make a drastic change to my look. I would definitely recommend calling him first to make an appointment, but he does take walk-in’s as well.

This used to go by Cindy Michael’s Hair Company but I believe the name has changed to Michael Roberts Silver Scissors because Michael told me he was changing the name. I got my hair cut by Michael twice and I really liked him. He’s a really friendly guy and I love his sarcastic humor. They give pretty good deals for students and if you have their coupons, so definitely snag one of those before you go ;) Their hours are pretty convenient and they welcome walk-ins for the most part! I only knock down a star because the times I went the place smelled of cigarette smoke, so that made me a bit unhappy. But otherwise, great service.
