Excellent place! I got the cowboy burger and an order of wings both of which tasted very good. Great atmosphere. Purchased a 6 pack of the apricot wheat beer since I heard positive reviews about it and was not disappointed. Recommend this place to anyone visiting state college PA.

We stopped here on a road trip. Beer was delicious and so was the food. They had a featured salad with salmon and plums that day that was fantastic. Our server, Lisa, recommended great beers and was very friendly.

I’ve never had a bad experience at Otto’s. Food is always delicious(love the weekly specials), the staff is always friendly and attentive, and the beer is great! Sitting at the bar is always fun, bartenders are really friendly. Outside area is soooo nice in the summer! There can be a wait, especially on normally busy weekends in State College, but it’s worth it! Oh, and try beers from their Cork and Cage series! Yummm.

I stopped at Otto’s for a business lunch the other day. I have never been here but apparently this is the go to restaurant for this customer and the other sales rep. Visually I was very pleased with the place. A lovely outside area to eat, though we ate inside. Nice and modern décor and lots of interesting decorations, signs, and memorabilia. We were seated quickly and given menus to peruse. Now let’s talk about the beer! I did not get to have any… So disappointing since they had a nice selection of their brews on tap. The waitress was very pleasant and efficient. We didn’t have to ask for refills once though we received about 3 throughout our dining experience. Their menu had such a range of food. I immediately noticed they have poutine, which Lord knows I wanted to order, but I quickly kept looking. Onto their sandwiches I noticed they offer a Banh Mi. Reading the description my mouth watered some. Braised pork belly fried crispy and tossed with sweet soy glaze, topped with lightly pickled vegetables, jalapenos, cilantro and sriracha mayonnaise — served on house made beer baguette. This is what I really wanted, but after some deliberation I decided on a Cobb Salad. Upon ordering my colleague, who ordered last went with a grinder and fries and declared himself the unhealthy eater of the day. I quickly came back to say I really want the Banh mi but decided against it. Something quite wonderful was about to happen. The waitress said, «You should just get the Banh mi. It’s my absolute favorite thing on the menu and it’s so good.» Well with an endorsement like that who could say no?! I quickly requested a change of order. I really wish this wouldn’t have been a business lunch as when my sandwich was served it was quite exquisite and I really wanted to snap a pic, but couldn’t. The sandwich came with fries or the vegetable of the day, which was broccoli. I had the broccoli and ate that first. It was good. They had seasoned it and it wasn’t sitting in a pool of butter, bonus on the veg! Now the sandwich was in my grip. I asked for the sriracha mayonnaise on the side so I could control the amount added. It was really good, but with fried pork belly I didn’t need to add much. The crispiness of the pork was overwhelmingly delicious. I loved every part of that meal. I wouldn’t call it an authentic Banh mi for sure, but for their version of one it was a home run. Everything was pretty great about this place. I’d love to return for a beer sometime, but that might not happen since I only go to State College for business. However, I look forward to a return lunch trip. Excellent place.

When my parents come to town, this is the place we go because the food is good, the drinks are good, and it’s a good place the whole family can enjoy.

It gets insanely busy, and they don’t take reservations. That, and the menu tends to get boring(whenever an interesting addition pops up, it vanishes, like the stromboli!). That said, it’s a solid place. Good food. Good service. Nice beer selection.

I’ve enjoyed Otto’s house-made veggie burgers and beer for the past few years. I also like the atmosphere while sitting at the bar.

Good, scratch-made gastropub food prepared in partnership with well-regarded, local purveyors, whom they name. Own-make microbrew beers and ales are worth the trip.

Poutine did not disappoint. Paired well with a Spruce Creek Lager and a Mt. Nittany Pale Ale. Bahn mi sandwiches were on point. We shall be returning!

I grew up about 30 minutes from State College, and have been a regular customer at Otto’s since its inception. It is a place I look forward to visiting 3 or 4 times a year, and never disappoints. The beer selection is always 12 – 16 strong, with great seasonals, great firkins, and a wide range of styles. My go-tos are the Slab Cabin, Double D(I love big handfuls of ample hop bounty), Pallet Jack, and Old Fugget. All the beers are well made, with some being downright exceptional. The food is good across the board, with standouts being the blau burger, and pizza. My only gripes about this place is that my son has been forced to order off the adult menu, but they’ve cut back on the kids menu items that he enjoys. In addition, get here early on weekends, as this place becomes a shit show, and more crowded than a free buffet in Calcutta.

I have been to Otto’s a number of times and am usually satisfied. I consider it one of the best places to eat in State College. I’m always up for going here. My favorite dish is the Buffalo Mac and Cheese. I enjoy it so much that I rarely order anything else. Occasionally something off the ever changing menu will tempt my taste buds and I’ll stray. The staff is usually very friendly and energetic. They know the menu and are happy to help you pick a dish. Many of them have tried the dishes so they know first hand what’s good. If you do happen to fool them with a question, they’ll find someone that can answer the question, be it a manager or a cook. The atmosphere is loud. There are TVs and a bar in a dinning room that can hold it’s fair share of people. There is no way around it, it gets loud. This is not a good place if you want a quiet romantic evening. The décor is a mix of alcohol paraphernalia from past generations, which are fun to see and read. The rest is modern, so there isn’t an old time feel at all. Just a respectful look into the past. Speaking of the past, this building was built by and formerly used to be a Quaker Steak & Lube. You can still tell by the architecture of the building. I’m glad it’s now the home of Otto’s, one of my favorite places to eat.

Good beer, decent bar food. Usually good service. One of the better places to go to in State College. However, their own Barrell 21 is a better choice for food. It is fancier, more expensive but offers good food.

It was my first time at Otto’s and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I will definitely be back. I ordered the Slab Cabin IPA and it was great! As for food, my friend and I ordered the the Creole Crab Dip with the pretzel and it was delicious. Highly recommend it. For lunch I ordered the Beef on Deck sandwich which came with Au Jus, Horseradish and fries. Great sandwich highly recommend.

I can’t even begin to talk about how amazing this place is. My boyfriend had the cowboy burger which was massive with thick cuts of bacon, he couldn’t even eat it all. I had the pork t bone which was to die for, wasn’t dry at all and had the perfect amount of sweetness to it. Our server Beth was awesome! Very friendly and knowledgable! We will definitely be coming back soon!

I went here with my family after graduation. For an appetizer, we got 2 orders of pierogis. They had onions and bacon — amazing. I thought this was the precursor to great meal. As an entrée, my mom and I both got the fish and chips. It wasn’t good. We wound up hardly eating any of it. The fish was extremely dry and tasteless. We should have just gotten 4 orders of pierogis and called it a day. I won’t be back. There are plenty of other places to go in State College.

If you’re in State College for a visit, I’d definitely recommend visiting Otto’s! Beer: I can’t speak for all beers, but I can talk about the Apricot Wheat(an American wheat ale with a smooth finish and taste of sweet apricots). Let me be the first to tell you that I’m not a big fan of apricots, buy this beer was really really good. It’s not bitter at all and is actually sweet from the fruit flavors. Definitely one that id get again! Food: the two things that we got for dinner were really tasty. My friend got the chicken pesto pizza(made in a wood oven… YUM) and I got a half chicken(yeah you read that right… and for $ 12). Oh did I mention that my half chicken came with corn bread, a pickle, coleslaw, and a side of broccoli! I literally got two dinners out of this one meal. I’d say that was a deal!

Ottos is okay. I have been in better places. I think it has good prices, is typical american food. The burritos are american style. I went with my friends, it was full. We got a table outside. It was really hot that day. The waiter was a nice kid. I liked it.

We decided to pass through State college on a recent road trip. I asked a friend and Penn State alum for a lunch recommendation. She knows we like breweries and good food. It’s always a score when you can get both. We stopped for an early lunch around 1130am. Being our first visit to Otto’s we ordered a flight. Their flight includes five draft beers. We were happy with their brews. I liked the apricot wheat and the coffee flavored dark brew(night owl maybe was the name). My husband liked all of the beers that we tried too. We saw the cork and cage beers in the menu too and found the descriptions inventive. We hope to try one when we are able to return. Food wise, he went with our waitresses recommendation: buffalo chicken mac n cheese. You get to choose your wing sauce and he also went with her recommendation for Brother Rod’s sauce — a spicy BBQ sauce. Definitely spicy but all around our favorite dish and something that I had true food envy over. I ordered a build your our vegan burger — as I always enjoy finding good, homemade veggie burgers. This one was pretty solid. Not my favorite veggie burger of all time but definitely a good one. I was so envious of his order that i may be holding it against the vegan burger. It was cool that they have some solid vegetarian and vegan offerings. I’m not either but, I do like veggie burgers for some reason. I also really appreciate that they have an awesome side salad that I subbed in for french fries. It had fresh ingredients and had high quality lettuce, shaved Brussel sprouts, etc. The menu for drinks and food is large and left us wanting to explore more — too bad we don’t live in town. Good job Ottos. When we return, we will be back.
