Having been to Greece, and having had authentic Greek food, this is probably the best you can get in this area. I’ve had many things on the menu and they were all great. The marinated pork that came with the gyro platter was delicious, and the salads are fresh. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you are in the area and want good Greek food. Also, it being BYOB is a huge plus.

Amazingly tasty like ALWAYS! There’s nothing I dislike about this place. Service is great, food is delicious and fresh, staff is very friendly, very clean, pleasant. They don’t sell liquor but you can bring your own and they will provide you with glasses and/or a bucket with ice. I just love it. The only thing they would need to do to be perfect is opening for lunch hours. My husband and I ordered the gyro platter but we wanted salads instead of the fries. Whatever you pay will be worth it. It’s not a loud place, but you can hear the music and talk to the people you are with at the same time without being annoying.

Have been coming here since they opened. Tonight was a new low. The noise level is ridiculous! We were seated next to a table of eight, all the voices and laughter reverberated, so we were unable to converse across the table. Then the music blared for the belly dancer! It was like a madhouse, rather than a dining experience. The food was not paced at all. We received our appetizers and salads at the same time. Before even starting our salads, our entrees arrived. The fried calamari was not tender and overwhelmed by breading, seasoning, and sauce. The tzasiki was great. Salads were drenched in dressing, causing greens to be limp and overwhelmed. The lamb was not up to par, being chewy. Even the sauce on the meat wasn’t very good. A tiny portion of orzo accompanied the lamb. The Moussaka had good flavor, but was rather dry, as if it had been sitting for a long time. Service was good, with a young girl trying hard, although communication was difficult even with her because of the noise level. I can’t imagine the owners have actually sat upstairs in their own restaurant. It was a madhouse, we couldn’t wait to get out. So disappointing.

I ordered the large Santorini salad to go and added grilled chicken to it. Although it was tasty, it was incredibly over priced at $ 14.61(incl. tax)! When I ordered over the phone the woman didn’t tell me the price, and now I know why. The portion was TINY, even if you included the single pita bread that was quartered that accompanied it. I took a photo with a beer can for size reference(beer not included), you be the judge.

Ordered in from The Greek with high expectations and with a craving for Mediterranean food. The meal arrived very quickly through OrderUp. I got a salad and three optional dips added on the side and I was not disappointed. The feta on my salad was in one piece rather than crumbled, which I liked. The dressing was very tasty. I’d order from here again.

If you know nothing about greek food you will probably like the food. The dolmades are the same ones you buy in can in the supermarket. The tahini is good. I ate a lot last time because my husband wanted me to try every plate he like. I was not surprised with the taste. Theres also a woman dancing with typical clothes from middle east and I do not see it very nice or classy.

WORSTGREEKFOODEVER! The Saganaki was not flamed at the table and was served alone. No pita or toast. The gyro had bacon mixed in with the meat. There was no less than 5 plus ounces of grease at the bottom of the tray from the gyro. OMG, I have to go shave my teeth it was that greasy. I have a picture. I hope Unilocal will let me load it. RUN, RUNVERYFAST! Mc Donalds is better!

One of the best places to eat in State College. I know they own the Waffle Shop and the owner is actually Greek so I had a feeling it would be good. I hesitantly ordered the Villager Salad, doubting the tomatoes would be good quality in December but I was shocked how fresh and ripe they were. Overall delicious, if I had one complaint it may be that the portion was slightly smaller than I expected but the large salad and pita still filled me up. We for baklava for dessert and it was great. Wish I had know they had baklava cheesecake or I would have ordered that. Fast friendly service. This may be my new go to restaurant when I visit State College.

I lived in Greece for 4 and a half months, and honestly I miss the food more than anything else. This restaurant’s food is FANTASTIC. I ate all over Greece, and this food is still some of the best I’ve ever had. I would definitely recommend this place!

We took some friends here that were staying with us for a home game. I think it was everyone’s first trip here. The service was good, and the atmosphere was… Greek. I’m not too familiar with the Greek culture and how it’s supposed to look and taste. The restaurant is two stories. We sat upstairs and loved it. The booths were roomy. We ordered an appetizer to share. I think it was stuffed grape leaves. They were excellent! I’m pretty sure everyone enjoyed their food. I ordered a traditional gyro. The meat was kind of like beef jerky. It wasn’t what I was expecting. It was also very spicy, as if the spice container lid fell off when the cook was seasoning it. The rest of it was so good, I’ll give it an extra star.

My husband and I went to dinner with our 2 small daughters a few weeks ago and enjoyed the overall atmosphere. The food was very good, service was great, and they even had a belly dancer as entertainment that evening. She was very entertaining. Thankfully my girls had just finished their dinners, they were entranced by her dancing. We will be going back!!! The baklava cheesecake was AMAZING!!!

I am in State College for a Coalition Membership meeting, and a friend who is an alum recommended this place to me. They have a larger parking lot, and you enter the building from the rear. The restaurant has 2 levels, and the décor was very appropriate. We were seated immediately,(they were not busy when we arrived at 5:30pm, ½ hour after they opened for the day, but folks started arriving in a steady stream after 6pm! I ordered the Saganaki as an appetizer for the table, and it was good. I had hoped they would light it table side, but it came prepared from the grill with 4 pita wedges and was devoured quickly. Our salads with our entrees were fresh and huge for small/side salads. They were a bit of a variation with a balsamic vinaigrette and a bit of goat cheese. For entrees, I had the Moussaka and another friend had the beef kabobs. The Moussaka was flavorful, and was a lovely mix of beef and eggplant. The bechamel was fluffy and simply melted in my mouth. My friend reported enjoying her kabob. We had baklava cheesecake, and it was lovely as well. Prices were good… for my entrée, the appetizer, and a dessert it came to just over $ 27 pre-tip. If you are in State College, check it out!

I think this is one of the best places to eat in State College. I am not a fan of their dessert, but I only had one so far. Their dolmades and kebabs are superb! Very good food for the price. And nice service, too. Which is a rare thing for SC. They also have a separate Gluten free menu.

This place is excellent. For starters, it is not a cafeteria style restaurant, that is just an option. My friends and I went upstairs to a table and had a very nice waitstaff. The calamari was a little tougher than I was used to but the taste more than made up for that. The tzatziki sauce was fantastic, just the right balance of spices. The moussaka was better than the one I had in Greece, and my friend was in love with the roasted leg of lamb. Finally, both the baklava and baklava cheesecake were very impressive. Other than the slight toughness of the calamari I have absolutely nothing but good things to say about this place. Definitely worth checking out if you’re in State College, it is now one of my top restaurants in town.

Good Greek«Fast Food» — Delicious Dolmades(the warm lemony rice kind without meat) Fantastic Kabob and Keftedes. Enjoyed the ambiance. Granite walls and tables, very Greek. Waitresses(as I did not see any waiters) could use some upgrades to their uniforms. [One note: I do not recommend the Three Dips or any of the dips. They were not so good.]

The food is delicious. We’ve yet to eat in but have been more than satisfied with takeout twice now. We greatly enjoyed the calamari, vegetarian sampler(dolmadas, spanikopita; hummus, tztziki, and roasted eggplant dips), chicken gyro platter, and baklava. All excellent, with delicate and well-balanced flavored of the signature herbs: mint, oregano, and dill. The tztziki sauce in particular will be hard to forget. The only off note? The Greek salad. I’ve had many a Greek salad in various Jersey Greek diners, and the basic idea is pretty standard: usually has kalamata olives, onion, feta, anchovies, and often some finely chopped herbs mixed in with the greens. This salad had the olives, onion, and greens… And goat cheese. It was kinda funky, but this could just be a variation with which I’m not familiar. It was really the only part of the meal that was unexpected and less than satisfying.

What a treat! I’m have only live in State College for about a year, previously I’ve lived all throughout NJ, Maine, Chicago and the Wilkes-Barre area. Being in SC has limited my dining experience drastically. It’s SOAWESOME to be able to get great Mediterranean food around here and have other options than your typical American, Italian, Asian or Indian cuisine. My Greek Experience. I found parking in the first row and there is plenty more of it! I was greeted by the manager with a friendly hello and smile. I felt really relaxed, enjoyed the atmosphere and interior design work they put into the place. Everything was spotless! I couldn’t believe how clean the place was, even though it’s new, they certainly take pride in their floors! The aroma was pleasing, I could smell fresh ingredients, not fryer oil, so I know they are keeping the kitchen clean as well. The food was fantastic. Incredibly fresh. You can tell that the chefs and cooks are tasting all of their products because the flavors were all well balanced. I really like the fact that it’s obvious that the sauces, dips, etc, didn’t come out of a plastic Sysco container, they are homemade and fresh. I’ve noticed that some people have complained about prices? I think this is ridiculous. The prices are dead on for the quality of food. If you want HOMEMADE, FRESH and GENUINE food, then you shouldn’t worry about spending the extra dollar or two. If you’re going out to dinner and expect to spend $ 8, you shouldn’t be going out to dinner at a place that makes their menu from scratch. I will be a regular at The Greek. My stepfather and I run our own café, so sometimes the last place I want to be is in another restaurant when I am off, but I can certainly say that I’ll MAKE time to eat there as often as I can!

Such delicious take out! While in State College visiting my BFF, we did a lot of freezer cooking, so the last thing we wanted to do for dinner was cook some more. I searched the Unilocal app for take out, and found the Greek. I called in the order, then drove to pick it up 15 minutes later. This place is a little off the road, so it could be hard to find at night. You turn into the parking lot and enter from the bottom floor. The place has a little nicer décor than I expected. The employees are in dressy casual, there’s a lot of faux marbling. You order at the counter, then grab your drinks and silverware and head to seats. My take out order was already packaged and waiting. They just scanned my card and sent me on my way. The food smelled so good that I had to fight temptation not to dig into the pita while on the drive home. We’d ordered the Horiatiki(Village Salad), Trio of Dips(melitzano salata, hummus, tzatziki), Keftedes, and Moussaka. The dips were SO good. The Melitzano Salata(eggplant and garlic) was so incredibly flavorful. The tzatziki was the best I’d had in a long time — tangy from yogurt but fresh from the cucumbers. The hummus was creamy and smooth. I could’ve made a meal off the dips and pitas alone. Every bite I tried was my favorite. The Moussaka wasn’t as dense and heavy as some make it — so you felt satisfied, not overly full. The Keftedes were perfectly seasoned, and the fries with them were particularly good with the tzatziki. The Horiatiki had fresh vegetables, tasty olives, and the perfectly firmly crumbly block of feta atop that I remember from the presentations in Greece. The portions were smaller than I expected for the prices, particularly in a college town. But everything was so flavorful and fresh, and they used high-quality plastic containers that could easily be reused for household food storage. Give it a try!

I’d give it 4.5 stars if I could! We put off going here for a long time because there weren’t many vegetarian dishes on the menu, but I’m so glad we finally made it! I got the vegetarian platter, which was delicious! The salad was really great, and I loved almost everything on the platter, except for the spinach pastry because it was too salty. Ross had the greek burgers, which he was very happy with. We ordered one of each dessert, both were really good with nuts and syrup but one would have been enough to split(they were enormous — I had the leftovers for breakfast, yay!). Maybe a little expensive but I loved the food and the atmosphere was interesting… you should go!

Edited 11/16/2011 So I went back and tried the traditional gyros platter. I thought the portion was a bit skimpy for $ 10.99, but the gyro tasted really good. I am also hoping that they will expand their menu — particularly in terms of mezedes — to include a few obvious choices, such as: tarama salata — a good tarama is a lovely thing gigantes — white beans in tomato sauce patzaria me skordalia — red beets with garlic dip(potato or bread based) kolokithokeftedes /melitsanes tiganites — deep-fried slices of zucchini & eggplant, usually served with tzatziki That would make me happy.
