US Post Office

From losing parcels to actually denying my existence at my address, they’ve done it all — all the while being obnoxious and rude.
Unfortunately there’s no way to change apart from moving out of my apartment. No amount of calls will help. Visiting them would result in a pointless conversation.

This is more than frustrating! This post office stopped delivering mail to my son after 1.5 years at the same address!!! Multiple calls and visits have not resolved the issue. Postmaster said he needed to put his name inside the mailbox, which he did– only to be served a notice that the apt was vacant!!! I thought it was the responsibility of the post office to deliver mail to an address. PERIOD. It is the occupants responsibility to mark incorrect addressees and return to USPS — What does it take to get your mail delivered?

This is the most stupid USPS I have ever been. The clerk do nothing more to help you. They only do the most simplest and least things they can. They are lazy, lack of knowledge and their job, most importantly, does not help the customer. They just say no.

Worst ever, rude clerks. Also, they should know more about their job.

I was supposed to receive a package which was originally handled by FedEx but then handed over to the postal service and that was exactly where all hell had broken loose. Had a package which was «out for delivery» for a few days at which point I decided to call in and nobody had an answer for me. Spoke to Mark who said that he would give relay the message of my package having not been delivered-​to the respective carrier on this route. A few days go by and I hear nothing yet-​from Mark. I proceed to call back and apparently I had never called him. He sees that it was misplaced and not even scanned past a certain point after reaching the facility. This package was 13 lbs. and was 16 inches in all dimensions, at least, there was NO WAY this could have been lost. Again, I was to wait for his return-​call since he was going to «relay» this message to the carrier. A few days later, I decided to visit the post office to inquire of this package and was met with three VERY RUDE ladies, who acted as though they could not be bothered to assist anybody. They were giving me all sorts of attitude because by now my package was «out for delivery» for a week at this point. It would have been perfectly fine if they had told me that they were being lazy and not doing their jobs instead of lying and saying that it was being delivered. Furthermore, the attitudes which they were giving me was completely unwarranted since they were the ones slacking. I was passed onto Rose who sighed at every single response I gave in hopes of receiving any clarification as to where my package was. Extremely reluctantly, she printed out a form to leave for the carrier yet another time. There wasn’t any use in asking them, much less receiving their attitudes for not even asking them to go above and beyond, but simply to do their jobs. A few days later, I call and Mark answers, the same thing as when I had called before, only this time he tells me to call him first thing at 8 the next morning. I call and there is no answer; I call again in another hour and ask for Mark and I am told that Mark isn’t in until 10:30 and that I should call back. I call again when he is in, and he says the exact same as he has been telling me; I’ll speak to the carrier, «He will be in at 8 – 8:30 in the morning tomorrow before he leaves for his route, so call me then.» I call again the next morning and the phone rings continuously and nobody answers the phone to the point that the line stops ringing. There is nothing. I call and ask to speak to a supervisor and suddenly everybody gets scared and suddenly my package appears; two weeks late, broken. It is very difficult to understand how this lack of attention is acceptable behavior when there are millions of Americans out there would would gladly take these jobs and be able to their jobs as expected. I know that the postal service is junk but my experience with the State College post office is completely abysmal and is the absolute worst experience I have ever had with ANY business. It is absolutely appalling that the employees at this location are employed/haven’t been fired/​replaced yet and just as much so that they are so complacent and nonchalant with a menial job. I know all shipping companies are bad, but this especially the worst.

I have not personally experienced the extreme rudeness that many others have commented on here, but I’ve witnessed it. Especially towards international students — the post office workers are just nasty to them. Though they aren’t extremely rude to me, they are not pleasant to work with. I go out of my way to avoid having to go to this post office — the workers make me nervous in line… The anticipation of being yelled at or scolded is too much! The long lines don’t even bother me as much as the bad attitudes.

The few times I have been here no one working was in a good mood, the 2 clerks were both very rude to everyone in front of me and it made it just an overall unpleasant experience. I go to the one on campus now, much better experiences there.

Arrived at literally 12:01pm and had the door shut and locked in my face because they closed at 12:00pm that day.
Absolutely no sense of customer service. I would never do that to a customer. They obviously don’t need my business.

Clerk # 16 aka Pretzel man is lazy. He is not very efficient and his typing skill is very poor.

Chronically understaffed with long wait times. I only use the automated kiosk in the lobby and avoid using the staffed portion whenever possible. I go out of my way to avoid this post office.

their mailboxes are convenient to use and the location is really pretty good. But, we only use their mailboxes.
For passports, go to the prothonotary in the Bellefont courthouse (at 15 min. drive and metal detector scan, it a far far better deal). for mail, go to the campus post office or to boalsburg post office.
The service here is poor (it is not humor, you do not yell at foreign grad students unless you are austrian). and it shows that USPS cannot or will not monitor its service. When or if USPS closes, I’ll think of this place, and think, too right. the other post offices I’ll feel sorry for. If you are the postmaster general, consider this a request to clean out this post office.

The worst choice you would ever have. The worst bastards you would ever met, especially for international students or people with obvious accents. No matter the old man on campus or those2 guys in the main office, the way they treat you is like you are not even the human being and they are the gods of packages! Maybe you will not find out this in usual time, but if you have some problems and go to find them, it will be your most bad lucky day in your life of state college

I’ve had people at UPS and FedEx offer to get packages off of a truck for me after hours and then apologize about inconveniencing me, but the United States Postal Service will never go the extra mile because they don’t even go that first mile. I will never, ever tell a postal worker at this branch «thank you,» because that implies that somebody did their job.

Awful experience every time I go there. I made an appointment to have our passports renewed. When I got there for the appointment, there was a line of about 15 people. I went up to the postal employes and was yelled at and told to wait in line with everyone else. While I waited in line, I was appalled at how rude the two postal employees were to everyone in line. I only wish that I could have a job that allows me to make appointments, not keep them, treat people like garbage and be able to keep my job. I think I would have to fire myself!

In 11 years of living in State College I probably had one great experience here. The wait is always long — doesn’t matter what day or time.

I lived in State College for 3 years and the Fraser Street Post Office was the workplace of the sole person in town I ever thought was racist — until I found out from Mike, the sweet old Penn State mailman whom everyone loves (based at the campus post office), that lots of other people had complaints about that guy as well. So the man technically isn’t a racist, he’s actually a misanthrope.
In fact, my experiences with the post office were so «memorable» that even a year after moving away, I felt intrigued to see what people had written about it, and particularly that worker, on Unilocal!Looks like he is still around giving people a hard time.
The women who work there are fine; I’ve received good service from them, but I’m surprised they put up with that particular coworker. The fact that everyone who works there allows him to get away with poor customer service, and doesn’t try to reach out to him and help him move ahead of his viciousness and unhappiness (because really, people who are mean to others are mean because something in their lives is making them very unhappy) gives the whole post office 1 star. Maybe he’s going through a terrible time, who knows? But giving him a job that allows him to spread his negative energy is not good enough.
So if you’re reading this review (who reads reviews about post offices??) and end up having him serve you, say a kind word to him even if he spits in your face — you never know, it might change his view of life.

I pretty much agree with Kathleen. I want to add that if you call, you will get the same attitude — hostility and rudeness. They are defensive from the get go, probably because they get so many complaints. You will be fortunate if you are able to complete a sentence because the «civil servant» on the other end will cut you off and talk over you. The phone experience is just as frustrating as that at the site. I have lived in State College for many years, and this post office has always been a very unpleasant place. Go elsewhere.

This post office is in a nice, convenient location in downtown State College. This is an actual full post office as opposed to the location on campus. There are PO Boxes, and what I love most, the automated shipping kiosk. With that thing, you can ship things ²⁴⁄₇.
I wouldn’t worry too much about parking. You can usually find a spot somewhere along the street.

Anyone who has had the misfortune of visiting this post office can tell you that it is the best place to go if you want the rest of your day to be ruined. The negative energy in this place is so thick you can cut it with the scissors that they probably won’t let you use — not because its illegal but because it forces you to ask them for something and in doing that, it gives them the opportunity to say no. And all they want to do is stare at you, not listen, and say ‘no.’ I have seen the same two or three self-​hating clerks in this place reduce perfectly kind and unassuming individuals to tears; i have actually watched customers in line come to the defense of crying patrons and demand that the clerks apologize to the customers. Even today I was talking with a friend about how hateful the workers are here and she told me a story about the time she watched one of them try to make a woman look stupid for asking questions about putting mail on hold until she was forced to explain her fear of an abusive ex-​husband pilfering through her mail — IN FRONT OF EVERYONE. And of course there’s always some kind of extended «watching» involved because the line is always out the door. Their sense of urgency is lower than the waitresses at Champs, and as the other reviewer rightly noted they like to wait until the line gets reallllly long to put up their «CLOSED» sign and then walk back and forth just to piss people off some more. There is no place I hate going more than here — and for that reason, I won’t — unless I am totally desperate beyond 5pm to mail something out. Even then, I might even wait til the next day and spend the extra $ 20 to over-​night it from another location. How sad is that?
Also, don’t bother asking for help — you’ll just be publicly humiliated in front of the entire line… except the ironic thing is, the only person who ends up looking stupid is him (it’s always a him) — the one trying to make you cry. We all know that whatever the issue is, is actually no issue at all. We all know it’s them and their own self-​loathing. Words cannot even express how terrible the people are who work here. They give a whole new meaning to the phrase «going postal» and I will NOT be surprised the day that one dude with the gray-​ish hair and his garden gnome sidekick with the red hair finally lose their shit and go Saw IV in one fell swoop. It’s also too bad there’s no way to seek redress other than to complain about it on Unilocal,hope one of their invisible friends sees it (because there’s no way they could have any real friends) and then their invisible friends let them know that maybe they want to taper their misery down because truthfully? Being that everyone in town collectively feels the same, the joke’s actually on you, postal workers!
Boycott! The woman on Calder Way is the biggest sweetheart of all time. Go to her and have a positive interaction that will probably actually brighten your day rather than make it 100 times worse.
