I can’t say I understand why anyone would ever wait in line to get in. I came on a Sunday around noon and it was mostly empty. First the food. The coffee was weak, burnt, and stale. I had high hopes for the coffee in this place but was really let down. Granted it was a slow time after the morning rush. But I had a better cup of coffee after at the Hampton Inn. The«famous» Eggs Benedict came out overcooked. I cracked the eggs immediately and they were essentially hard-boiled. After a quick chat with the manager the waitress said she’d swap them out. The only thing I’m picky about with breakfast is over-poached eggs in a benedict. You need runny eggs to ooze all over the meat and muffin. The second set of eggs were perfectly poached. Overall the dish was nice. The hollandaise was tasty and the home fries were cooked nicely. The waffle was just ok. I guess at a place called«The Waffle Shop» I was expecting something special to stand out about them. Maybe a sweeter, thicker batter or something. But it was just a thicker version of the aforementioned Hampton Inn self-serve waffle. The bacon and sausage side were perfect. The service was so-so but I get it. I’ve come to expect the service in all State College establishments to be staffed by half-interested college students. When we walked in there was a host and a server in the front. The host was trying to take separate cash payments from a large group of students. The server was standing their watching. After making eye contact a few times(with the«can we talk» head nod) I finally ask aloud«do we just sit anywhere?» Overall it was an ok experience with typical college town service with mediocre food. If I had only $ 9 cash in my pocket and needed a waffle, I would stop in if there wasn’t a line. But that’s about the only reason I’d go back.

Pecan waffle was LOADED with pecans, the blueberry waffles were good. We asked for a side of bacon well-done and they did not disappoint. Service was fine, although they brought out the wrong thing for the blueberry waffles, corrected it quickly.

If you haven’t utilized their secret menu yet, I highly recommend the henny-eggs. extra dirty.

I see that nothing has changed at the Waffle Shop. No credit card option for payment, and a ridiculous waiting line. However, the waffles are great. Is it worth an hour waiting in line? No. Try Denny’s.

Every since I had came to Penn State University — University Park, I was always told by my peers that the Waffle Shop is a must. However every time, I decided to try out the Waffle Shop, there would be a long line that I was not willing to go. One day after class, my classmate and I decided to go to the Waffle Shop. We walked in the waffles shop, expecting something like Denny’s. I felt like I was transported into a whole different world. Even though the interior of the place looked a bit outdated, I felt like I was in a black and white film. Anyways, I decided to order the classic waffle and eggs benedict, which was absolutely delicious. I myself as a highly critical food lover, this place surpassed my expectations. If you are going to try out the Waffle Shop, remember to bring cash because they do not accept card at all. Also another tip is come very early morning during the weekends, because there will be a line of hungover college students waiting to get their delicious breakfast. Check the place out, I personally love it and I hope you do!

Really bad service. I waited for more than 10 minutes and no one came to me. I asked the girl to take my order but she just let me wait for 10 more minutes with no one came to me. I left after eating nothing but 20minutes waiting. Really hate that girl.

Best breakfast spot, that’s why you can see those all those folks standing outside! They always have a long line on the weekends. It is totally worth the wait. They give you a ton of food and it always tastes so good! They have forgotten my order on occasion, but they were very nice about it. Also they only accept cash so come prepared! They do have an ATM — but who wants those ATM fees anyway! The best downtown state college breakfast spot!

Penn State Tradition. Love this place!!! Great pecan pancakes and granola parfaits. You can’t beat their prices. Great location. Fast breakfast. Great coffee. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Absolute only downfall is they only accept cash but do have an ATM!!!

I love this place! The food is good, the prices are right and the staff is outstanding. I’ve done breakfast and lunch. Lunch is a step above what you might expect and breakfast, what can I say. Waffles are magic! The bacon is to die for. Toast is done properly, on an open flame. And the fresh squeezed orange juice is the best.

Yum. I only came here once or twice in college because the line was always so long. The service is okay for how busy it is. The menu certainly isn’t anything crazy, but they have great breakfast food. It’s simple and inexpensive. Their freshly squeezed OJ was my favorite.

Mediocre at best… Pancakes are rubbery… How can a breakfast joint not have biscuits!!! No sausage patties and no biscuits… Crazy!!!

Yes, the line is intimidatingly long when you first arrive– but it is SOWORTHIT. This is the best brunch place I have ever gone to, and honestly the only restaurant I still like in state college after living here for a few years. If you are in town(or have guests in town) visit– it’s probably the most worthwhile experience in this town.

This is a famous institution of state college. Only open for breakfast or a late lunch. The line for this location is LONG especially on home game weekends. The atmosphere is like Denny’s and the food is good breakfast food. Nothing particularly special, but a a good and yummy deal

Great location and good breakfast food. They’re open til 4 on the weekends, so it’s perfect if you sleep in late. Still, their food is not nearly as good as the Original Waffle Shop(not affiliated with the downtown one, with locations on West College and North Atherton), so if you want a really good breakfast and you have a car, I’d skip the one in town and head to one of the originals for better eggs, waffles, and orange juice.

BESTPECANPANCAKES. EVER. I haven’t actually had their waffles but… THEPECANPANCAKES are so incredible. You get four huge ones. Buttery and delicious. The service is incredibly fast. Don’t be scared if there’s a line outside because it will move quickly, you won’t have to wait long at all. I’m still rating it 5 stars, but I think the coffee is overpriced.

I didn’t go to Penn State, but my husband and his entire family did. so needless to say, I’ve been brought into the Waffle Shop tradition of going before every football game we go to(and really, every day we’re up at State College). This past weekend was no different when we went during Arts Fest. There was a group of 23 of us(yes, all one big family!) and we stood in line thinking we would never get seated! The Waffle Shop was nice enough to break us up into tables of 6 and seated us all in one separated area. Service was great as usual, constantly getting our water and coffees refilled. I split the pancakes with a side of strawberries and the Junior’s omelette(basil, mozz cheese, tomatoes) with my husband and both dishes were delicious! We were all happily stuffed at the end of breakfast and this feeling lasted all day! No need for lunch after a big meal here. The only thing I wish is that they would look into adding some items onto their menu. I would love to see some turkey bacon/turkey sausage, and some whole wheat pancake/waffle options for those of us who want to be health-conscious but still have a delicious breakfast. Just a suggestion! Can’t wait until the next time we come up!

Nothing special about this place. The place sounds amazing with delicious-looking food, but to be honest, the pancakes weren’t very warm(seemed to be left out a bit too long) and the veggie harvest omelette wasn’t particularly special. Just average food. Perhaps the waffles would be better, but I love pancakes, and they didn’t impress me. I’ve had better pancakes at other places.

The Waffle Shop is synonymous with Penn State. Come early, leave happy should be the Waffle Shop’s motto. As undergrads continue to roll out of bed the line here gets deeper and deeper. Hailing standard breakfast fare, the Waffle Shop delivers quality food, appropriate service, and a casual ambiance. Its always a great experience at the Waffle Shop. PROTIP: Bring Cash

A place to get super fat! But is sooo yummy! Oversize plates of food! You are allowed to pay JUST in cash. They have a parking lot(free). My hubby likes the soup specially because it comes with free refills. I think they are best know for their breakfast specials which are available from Monday to Friday. Good prices.

It feels almost wrong to write a review of the Waffle Shop. It is a Penn State tradition and there is no question as to how good it is. It is the first of many steps to curing a hangover. When I come back to visit, I go both Saturday and Sunday and order the same thing. Belgian waffle side of bacon. The line can get very long but it moves fairly quick. Cheap and delicious!
