Love this place !! I visit it at least once a week. The food is amazing! Even though the décor might not be the best the food and the staff is simply amazing !

Amazing sushi, best you can have on staten island. Perhaps NYC. The sushi is affordable and the service is a 10. I became a regular instantly, a must have when passing through staten island.

We love Japanese food and have always thought that Staten Island lacked a good Japanese restaurant. Sure there are all kinds of Sushi places with mediocre sushi. Now we have a Japanese restaurant!!! Aka Sushi is over the top fantastic! The service is marvelous; the atmosphere is friendly and warm; the food is impressive. This will be a regular place for us. You MUST go and try it out! FIVESTARSFORSURE!

This is me and my friends go-to spot. It’s quaint and very casual and there is ample parking.

I have been going to Aka Sushi for about 10 – 12 years. The owners and staff are fantastic. The sushi is simply some of the best quality sushi I have ever had… certainly it is the best place on Staten Island(and I have tried many, many sushi places in my 18 years on Staten Island.) It is absolutely refreshing that in the 10 – 12 years that I’ve been a regular at Aka, the owner continues to purchase fresh fish(I’ve even seen the sushi chef butcher a side of salmon at the sushi bar,) where do you get that? Places normally ship in pre-packaged fish rather than working with a whole side, freshly butchered. The fish is never tough, or dry either, like so many other places on Staten Island… rather it is perfect and fresh. I usually don’t write reviews, but when I read the negatives about Aka Sushi on Unilocal,I had to lend my voice to Aka. I really don’t understand or fully believe the negative reviews, because I have never had any issues with any of their food, never heard anything negative from anyone who I know who orders from them or goes to the restaurant and yes, while the décor may be humble, who cares?! The fish is fresh, the food is fantastic, the service is great and the owners are some of the nicest people in the world. Perhaps some of these negative reviewers have gotten used to the dried out, tough, stiff, overly fishy tasting(and on the other hand, bland, no flavor), «sushi» that has become all to common in other sushi establishments. By the way, when you stop into Aka, try the Volcano Roll, it’s 10 bucks but it is fantastic, also order some nigiri sushi and sashimi, that way you can see what I mean about the quality of fish served at Aka.

While the atmosphere leaves a little to be desired, the excellent service and fantastic food easily make up for it. This small, family owned restaurant should be on your hit list!

They’re friendly but their décor is kind of half assed. Prices are good, but not the sushi is not quality. I ordered a spicy salmon roll and received a crunchy salmon roll instead. It tasted more oily than anyt hi nf else. The soy sauce tasted oddly watered down and so did the miso soup. I’m going to try the sushi place a block down instead.

Been coming here for a couple of years now. One of the better sushi places on Staten Island. Staff is always friendly and sushi is always fresh. They always have interesting rolls here. Enjoy.

We just wanted to have a nice dinner for Valentine’s Day. So many restaurants were packed… but in this place, there were a lot of empty tables. I suppose, there was a reason for that. We were greeted at the reception area by a child who was alone behind the counter. It was odd, but she was very sweet and cute, and then seated us. Later, she came to our table and asked us if we wanted drinks. I ordered a small sake. She said she couldn’t serve it because she was underage. So she brought over a woman who was able to serve me. We got a strong feeling that this woman didn’t speak any English. After a while, the little girl came back to take our order. I indicated that I have a severe food allergy and needed to speak to an adult who could help me figure out what I am able to eat, if there would be any cross-contamination, etc. We waited. Finally, a woman who spoke English came to help us. She seemed to completely misunderstand the allergy and kept getting it wrong. At that point, I was hesitant to eat there as I felt I couldn’t trust that she could recommend food that wouldn’t be harmful to my health. After spending probably about 45 seconds with us, she began leaving our table, saying she’d be right back. We must have waited about 20 minutes. In the meantime, I walked to the restroom and saw that the place was practically empty. Why was no one helping us? I then saw that this woman was at the front desk, appearing to be taking take-out orders. After a very long wait, we decided we had had enough, so we told her to just bring us the check for the sake. After a few minutes she came over and said we didn’t have to pay for it and apologized. So we walked out and will never return.

I consider myself an avid Sushi lover, I love the culture I love the food. I’ve been to this particular restaurant a few times as I live pretty close. I’ve been noticing a drop in the quality of food and this service. But today was the icing on the cake. I go in for the lunch special. I don’t get a hello I sit at the sushi bar the Chef ignores me after I say hello I ordered the lunch three sushi special the tuna was warm dark. I ordered a Boston roll, which I didn’t get. I ate about two pieces got up paid my bill walked right out never going back sad.

My friend wouldn’t stop talking about the food here. It doesn’t look so nice on the outside(it looks kind of blah, in the middle of a shopping center.(blah is the technical term)). so I was skeptical but said we could go here one night. we went one night, and now we always go. ive told multiple people about it and even though its not the most convenient, i’ll go here for take out. which, side note, im not normally a fan of sushi take out or delivery but their sushi was just as good as dine-in. they have a variety of special rolls that they dont really have anywhere else on the island. my favorite roll is the class roll. i think it’s tuna and avocado wrapped in thinly sliced cucumber. ive had it three or four times now so i probably should know for sure, but i dont and idc because its delicious. kiku, a few blocks away, has a roll wrapped in cucumber but this one is better. and i think its a bigger roll. ive tried other special rolls here and my regulars; they are all great. the inside of the restaurant is nice, the staff is sweet, and it is never too crowded. i have only good things to say.

We love this spot, we have been here five times and every time it was great. My wife only gets the chicken teriyaki and loves it. I’ve ordered probably every roll they have and alway get sashimi. Always good and fresh and the service is good… Give this place a try…

This place don’t look like a 5 star restaurant but it taste like on and that’s what counts. The rock shrimp, goyza are good the sushi is fresh /they make a snowhite roll and put cream cheese in it it’s amazing /other rolls are average like any other good sushi place in Staten Island /it’s a good place to get bombed in as well nice dim lighting /plenty of beer and shakee on hand. I will be back. Not to expensive either 3 people for dinner was a 100 bucks with the tip and we were all full and drunk !

You know you are in a bad Japanese restaurant when: –you spend half the time determining that your tea cup is actually plastic… –you realize the décor is your standard, we do the Asian theme well –you dread your sushi arriving cause the apps were gross –the music playing… song after song makes you progressively want to hurl yourself off a high balcony. Srry, AKA — you just didn’t do it for me.
