I have ordered take-out from here about a year ago, and was disgusted by the cheap styrofoam containers they used to put the hot food in. These end up melting where the food is hottest and releasing a chemical taste into the food, this ruined my appetite, so I never got to experience the food the way it’s actually made… We have been meaning to stop by and sit down to eat for some time now, and finally made the trip after seeing all the great reviews. Upon entering, we were told to sit anywhere we’d like. We quickly noticed a strange smell in the room, smelled similar to cigarettes at first, but as we sat for a while, I realized it could be some other chemical smell, perhaps from paintwork or from another business connected to the building. Whatever it was, this was not very pleasant to smell that in a place where you eat. Upon looking at the menu, I ordered the short rib fettuccine pasta, and my wife ordered the beer braised beef with Gemelli pasta. We got served about 10 minutes later, and were eager to try. After having a bite of my shortribs, I quickly realized they were not fresh, or at least were laying around for a while after they’ve been cooked, I just left them uneaten and didn’t bother sending it back(I probably should have). They had that leftover taste and the meat was tough and NOT melting off the bone as a shortrib should. My wife’s beer braised beef was overcooked or simply too dry, but had a good beer flavor. The pasta and their sauce were decent. The large soup bowls that the dishes were served in were too deep, inappropriate and didn’t lay out the dish openly as it would have been on a proper pasta plate. This made me feel like I’m digging through a ceramic dog bowl. We also noticed there were cheap paper mats on the table, advertising various types of businesses, and corporate associations that this place supposedly is involved with, which is a tacky feel suggesting«look how connected we are, look how corporate we are». This has nothing to do with my visit there and was also a turn off, we’re not here to see your corporate relationships, these won’t impress us… I’m here for a food and hospitality experience, paper mats like that just add a cheap diner feel to the place. That being said, this place has great potential as it has a great concept of making delicious pasta dishes from around the world, however, until the quality of food, restaurant etiquette, and air quality significantly improve, we will not be returning back.

Found on Unilocal and it lived up to my expecations and the reviews. The salads and the pastas were outstanding! Will be back again!

Favorite place in Staten Island, hands down. Always impressed by the specials. Must try the kale salad, and the pastas are out of this world. Original and delicious.

After reading the reviews I was excited to try it out. I ordered a pasta dish that came with mushrooms, ribs and a cream sauce. The pasta was delicious. The ribs were ok. When I went to cut the rib I found what appeared to be a black bristle. Honestly like you would find on a broom or an ice scraper. I showed it to the waitress. It was plastic. She took it in the kitchen and came right back and said that they have no brushes in the kitchen that look like that. And that it’s probably a spice or something that came from the factory where they got the ribs. Then walked away. Seriously? They cooked my meal with plastic and didn’t replace it or offer me something else. I couldn’t eat it after that. I would have liked to try it again, but the service has me second guessing.

Came in the night before Thanksgiving to a mostly empty dining room(expected)…we received warm and attentive service, and delicious, delicious, freshly prepared pasta. What I enjoy about this café is it’s unique options compared to the other Italian establishments on Staten Island, even compared just to the two finer dining restaurants on New Dorp Lane(Brioso and LaStrada). Their product is fantastic, and could easily outshine some of the dishes at the aforementioned places, but Alor does not have the crowds or inflated price points! The service is far more attentive and you’ll feel far less rushed with their staff at the helm. My only complaint if any is a slight expansion in their menu to include more tomato based sauces without the addition of mushrooms. Highly recommended for a no-frills evening of good eats on the island without having to stand in a loud and crowded 2ft wide doorway while you wait to be seated. Less screaming children and whining diners and more time for what matters the most… THEPASTA.

Gross! The waitress messed up our order, food and drink! They didn’t have the special pasta dish that was advertised. The food was terrible. There was no parking. I will NEVEREVER eat here again! Also, I got so so sick from the food later that evening, and I wasn’t the only one in my party that complained about that.

We have been here several times since the opening of the restaurant. Always great service and never a wait for a table! The pastas are always fresh and creative! Their weekly specials are great and sometimes they make it onto the permanent menu.

The food was really good and fresh. The waiter was nice and was able to substitute meat in a dish for mushrooms(if you want veg friendly)

Ohh just yummminess… adorable place. Service was spot on. Make u feel right at home. Started with a corn chowder $ 4 and a three bean soup $ 4. We shared both and fought over who would finish them they were that good. My fav corn chowder. Not the creamy heavy stuff u would normally associate with chowder. Sweet and light and just orgasmic. Moving on to the main dished I ordered Ireland(beer braised beef beisket with brussel sprouts) yeah this is one of my favorite pasta dishes ever!!! Date ordered Lousiana(shrimp, andouille sausage, pepper, corn, parnesean cream) very tasty. I liked Ireland better :) Fried spagetti for dessert. Umm need i say more. If you havnt trued this place really dont undertand what your waiting for. So amazingly simple, fresh, deliciously good food. :)

I recently enjoyed a very nice lunch here. I had the gnocchi and it was light & delicious. Perfect portion size also. My friend had the chopped brussell sprout salad– the presentation and flavors were spot on. I can’t remember what my husband had but he really liked it. I also must add, as weird as it may sound, their tap water is also delicious! They put fresh lemons in the pitcher and it adds so much flavor, just a nice touch. The only entrée that didn’t get a rave review was the Swedish meatballs, but 3 out of 4 ain’t bad! Looking forward to going back soon.

MUSTTRYTHISPLACE! Truely unique and absolutely amazing! Had the Spinach Salad with cranberries and goat cheese, Brussels Sprout Salad with corn and bacon, the Ricotta Gnocchi with mushrooms, Cavatelli with sausage, then finally the Chocolate Ravioli with Nutella and vanilla ice cream and the Fried Spaghetti with walnuts, bananas and vanilla ice cream. Everything is made fresh, the prices are incredible and the service is outstanding. This is Staten Island’s new hidden gem!

Honestly, I was intrigued by the five star Unilocal review. Thank you Unilocal; once again you have not failed! What a great place! Fresh mozzarella, tomato, red onion, rosemary, and pesto flatbread is a must! Tagliatelle with shitake, portabella, and white mushroom ragout was delicate and delicious. The ricotta gnocchi described as a six mushroom roast with fresh mozzarella and sauce was tender and tasty. Portions were more than plentiful. Lastly, we enjoyed the chocolate ravioli. Need I say more! The ravioli was filled with Nutella and drizzled in chocolate served with vanilla ice cream. Dessert to die for! Our server was attentive and informative. The entire staff was friendly and welcoming. I will definitely be back!

Why haven’t I come here sooner this place is amazing! Came with my daughter who is an extremely picky eater. She loved it our waiter was super attentive and even offered me a free cappuccino. My daughter had a flat bread pizza, and they were nice enough not to add the things she didn’t like. I had ricotta gnocchi omg wow. It was like little small cheese pillows of yumminess. We both didn’t fill up because we went there for dessert and we were so in love with their fried ravioli stuffed with chocolate Nutella and a scoop of ice cream. Holy cow my daughter ate almost everything.

Awesome homemade pasta! I loved the mazzi rigatoni. Flatbread was pretty good as well. It hasn’t been opened for too long and not much of the natives know about this place — yet — so there is never a line — which is a rarity on Staten Island. I’ve been there for two weekends in a row and have not been disappointed. I plan to go every back every other weekend to try their other homemade pasta dishes.

Went here for the first time today with my husband and got the yummy and inexpensive lunch special. Service was great, pasta was delicious, everything tasted very fresh and they even sent over beautiful multilayered little cappuccinos! We were visiting relatives in the neighborhood and will definitely come here the next time we are on the island.

What a nice new local spot. Ample parking lot and the hanging pasta in the window is the first thing to entice you. There’s a long bar when you walk in and table seating in the back. Our waitress was super friendly and helpful. She recommended the corn chowder, which was excellent. It tasted very fresh. She also advised us to get the half size portions as the full size can feed 2 – 3 people. The small came home with me. That’s how big it was. I had the tagliatelle with mushrooms. It was delicious. You got a lot of mushroom flavor and not overly creamy. Just right. We will definitely be coming back to try the other delicious pastas, especially for dessert!
