Bay Sweet Cafe

I’ve been waiting to write this review for a long time because I wanted to see if I’d be less angry about it over time, but I’m not. So now I know this is deserved.
For one of the restaurant walks in Saint George/​Stapleton I stopped by to sample the food, they had a Cuban for the give away when they first opened. It was decent and we took a menu to try later.
I called in an order the next week. When I gave them my address, the woman said «we don’t deliver there». I explained that I was literally a few blocks away. I was asked if I was in «the buildings near the park» and I said no. I explained my location and repeated my address giving some details that I won’t disclose on Unilocal and was asked if I was «near the welfare office», I said «ummmm, yes».
I was then asked if I would come downstairs for my order, I replied «normally our delivery people come up to our door, but I guess I could come down». I was told the delivery woman «was afraid to walk around inside buildings».
The entire time I was questioning why someone would open a restaurant in our community if they fear our community this badly. Mind you, this was a Sunday afternoon during day light hours. But wait, it got worse and my fears were confirmed.
Eventually I agreed to meet her downstairs in my building. I get down there and I recognize her as the owner from the other day. She says to me «You should have told me it was THIS building, I don’t have a problem delivering here at all». That was the kicker, way to admit that you are at worst a racist and at best highly uncomfortable in the community you started a business in. NEVER ORDERING AGAIN BASED ON THIS ATTITUDE.
The sandwiches we ordered were cold cuts that we could have made ourselves, nothing special at all. I at least expected the bread to be home made or ordered from someplace fresh baked. Nope, probably bought at a super market on the way to the restaurant. Waste of money.
I don’t usually say things this mean on here (you can check all my other reviews), but I am awaiting this place’s closure so that someone that RESPECTS THEIR NEIGHBORS AND COMMUNITY OPENS INSTEAD.

This place is a joke. I don’t like the rude owner, very uncomfortable visit. Waste of time and money. Never again.

I stopped by this place as I was in town for the Staten Island Half Marathon & my airbnb host told me about it. I actually felt kind of nostalgic walking in… I grew up in one of the smallest towns in PA, & the down-​to-​Earth & friendly vibe I got from this place was a nice treat compared to the usual go-​go-​go of a NYC café. I had the veggie sandwich & it was worth its title — Top 20 in Staten Island? Something like that? Whatever it was, it was well deserved, but I’m giving it 4 stars just because it was a little too much bread for my liking. I also had the peanut butter ice cream, because I was about to run 13.1 miles, dangit! ;) Also very good & extremely generous in portion for just a small. Thanks, Bay Sweet Café!

I’ve never eaten the food from here but the ice cream is delicious. I enjoyed my ice cream inside while talking to the owner and other customers. While i was enjoying my ice cream an unruly costumer walked in that had an attitude problem. They were complaining that they were not being helped right away and she was cursing causing a scene. So the owner kicked her out and told her to get out of her store. That was the best part! Overall i would recommend coming here and despite what people say about the owner, she was very sweet to me and interesting to talk to.

I’ve read the 3 reviews available before posting and I was shocked. I took my two 12 year old cousins to get some ices after a loooooong day at summer camp. The space looked small from the outside but actually was quite larger than I expected it to be. It’s a quaint location with limited seating. Upon entering, two ladies came and greeted me (one whom I believe was the owner) and helped us choose from their vast ice collection and even gave us a few samples of the ones we couldn’t decide on. They were courteous and extremely polite and even cracked a few jokes. The short time I spent in there was pleasant and they invited me to attend their fish fry later this week. I didn’t order any food but I’ll be back later to try some items off their menu. When I do I’ll adjust my current rating so I can properly reflect my experience at this establishment.

I STRONGLY RECOMMEND NO ONE ORDER FROM THIS EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL AND RUDE «OWNER» AMY P. ESTABLISHMENT… i honestly cannot even comprehend how this establishment is even still in business. I called this place maybe 3mins ago to order food for my children and myself… my children wanted pancakes but i noticed there were no pancake platters listed on the menu so, I call and am greeted by a not so welcoming voice on the phone. I ignore this and proceed to ask the lady whom i now know to be the owner «Amy P.”(of her own admission) if they offer a pancake breakfast platter with eggs, homefries and bacon bc one is not listed on the menu. .she says yes. I then ask Amy if they make flavored pancakes like blueberry or banana. .Amy says no but they can add blueberries and whip cream if I’d like (this is as welcoming as she gets) i say. .“yes please» and she says. .what else?.. so i then tell her I’d also like a homemade cheese steak sandwich and some fries. .curly if they have. she says. .we don’t have fries only home fries. i say okay. I’ll just take the sandwich then… (i have given her no attitude at all, mind you).i then say also let me have an extra side order of bacon and my eggs sunny side up with the breakfast platter… then it was almost as if she became possessed and out of no where in the rudest tone I’ve ever heard she says so. …you want the egg platter too?.. i say no. I just want the eggs with the pancake platter sunny side up. .pancakes. home fries. Eggs and bacon. …she says in the meanest tone ever. .“well then you can order from somewhere else” and then hangs up in my face… so of course shocked as ever bc i seen another review on here from a customer complaining about how very rude staff was when they ordered delivery and they would never order from here again. i see Amy P. responding to the review apologizing to the customer and promising that «employee» had been retrained. I called back and noticed the same voice so i asked again not rude at all. .who am i speaking with. .this rude voice almost screaming at me «this is the owner»…I say Oh my!.. this is Amy. .she says, yes!.. what…I said Amy i found your place on Unilocal!and i am shocked that you are responding to customers apologizing for rude, unprofessional staff when this staff seems to be you. Meanwhile the entire time I’m saying this Amy is screaming «I don’t give a shit about Unilocal!So what! !»…and then hangs up again in my face. Baffled i just come to write this review. Ive just moved to the island from Brooklyn and this is honestly the worst ordering experience I’ve ever had happen to me. .needless to say i will not be ordering from here ever and will advise all my fellow Unilocalers and friends asking for suggestions on food delivery to avoid this place at all costs. .my phone actually records all calls made to and from. .i wish Unilocal had an upload option so that you guys could listen to the recording. .Amy P is absolutely insane and should not be in control of or the owner of any business looking to make money or even be considered a viable civilized resident of this country!.. Amy P is a whack job and judging off of just her demeanor alone she probably spits in people’s food… or worse. STAY SWAY!!! *obviously the 1 star is bc i cannot post review without selecting one*

Just ordered from them for delivery. I ordered a breakfast sandwich, homefries, a six inch sub, and a slice of cake. They delivered in less than 45 minutes and included a free coffee and an extra slice of cake with a cute note attached. I will definitely be ordering from them in the future.

Never again I will order from this place. I order 2 eggs over medium platter, they forgot my toast and the potatoes was under cook and my eggs were sunny side. I called back and complain the new lady that just started working there (the one that took my order) said I never said I want white toast-​_​– when clearly it stated all platters come with home fires and white toast. She then tells me she will not be resending your order even tho she messed up everything. She also said if I want my toast I can drive over to them and pick it up. She then tells me there’s nothing she can do for me and hangs up. On top of all that I waited an hour for my food and the delivery person had no change on her! This is the worst experience I have had with ordering food. This place is a rip off. DO NOT ORDER FROM THEM!!!
