REVIEWFORFOODIESONLY: Ceylon Curry has new owners. The food is not as good as before. The quality is along the same lines as New Asha — GREASY!

They are professional and very customer friendly. Once i didn’t have enough cash to pay and they didn’t take credit cards. The manager agreed to still deliver and asked me to pay later. It was very courteous of them to do that. But I managed to find cash and paid off when food arrived. They also deliver to College of Staten island. This is a huge plus because other srilankan places like New Asha and Lakruwana don’t deliver. My only concern is that their fish roll is a little oily. I wish they would improve on that. But I would definitely order again!

There were 7 people in our group and we shared 6 different dishes between us, including lamprais, chicken kottu, and fried rice. The food was fresh, warm and delicious. The chicken was cooked to perfection with just the right amount of spice, not too overpowering or hot. The lamprais had all the curries that usually comes with it: hard-boiled egg, fish cutlet, curry chicken, cashew curry, brinjal moju and ash plantain — all excellent — wrapped in a warm banana leaf. The kottu couldn’t have been any better. Everything was also presented very well, even at the late hour that we came in. The service was also excellent. We had spent the whole day walking in NYC and got to Staten Island at 10:00 p.m. When we called, Ceylon Curry was already closed but told us to come right over with our party of 7. When we got there, they were all so friendly and accommodating, and refused our request to give us whatever was left, but encouraged us to order anything we want. Then they proceeded to get us the food as fast as possible, while engaging in friendly conversation, and trying their best to refresh this group of tired tourists. They were attentive throughout our meal, and even gave us free dessert to take on our way. Very well done! We will most certainly return here every time we visit NYC from now. Very well worth the ferry ride and walk up.

Visited the second time with my relatives driving and hour or more from Manhattan still worth the effort. You cannot beat the taste compared to any other Manhattan Sri Lankan restaurant. Tried the fish platter and the hoppers just mouth watering !!!

I had dinner here with my family and we ordered the chicken kottu and lumprais. The dishes were presented beautifully and tasted delicious. I will definitely eat here again.

Lamprais, hoppers, coconut sambal and yellow curry are all excellent. The owner is extremely accommodating, friendly, and careful with dairy allergies(often a challenge South Asian cuisine). Five stars.

Very cute Sri Lankan restaurant. Friendly service and good food. I had the Ceylon Burger which was excellent. I will be back for the Ceylon Curry. I hear they have a buffet too. Maybe I will come for that sometime. All in all a good experience.

Okay so i wrote a review before for the Lak Bojun restaurant. Now it’s operated by different owner and the food is pretty good better then the two restaurants in Manhattan. Food gets five stars and so does the service. The owner and the staff is very friendly. There is one problem though which is TIME. I called in for a pick up and it took 40 minutes over the time they told me to come. It happened twice so i can’t really give them 5 stars. If they fix that they deserve a 5 star and the food is amazing(it has to be good if i am willing to travel from Bronx to Staten Island). The other thing i am bit disappointed about is no more deviled pork. That was one of the best dishes. But overall this place is good and if you want real Sri Lankan food this is the place.

Hands down, this is the best Sri lanakan restaurant in NY. Real good authentic Sri lanakan food. My husband who is American loves it too probably more than I do. Very friendly service. Don’t take my word for it go and see ur self you will not regret it, I promise :) Pricing is very reasonable as well. all three times I have been there has been great. Keep up the good work

I am a Sri Lankan and if you are looking for authentic Sri Lankan food, this is the place to find it. I ordered the nasi gorang(not on the menu, but you can ask for it) and it was delicious. It was like eating it in Sri Lanka. My wife ordered a fish kotthu. Even though I’m not a big fan of fish in my kotthu, I had some of it and it was the best quality kotthu roti I have eaten in a long time. I recommend getting a meat kotthu rotti, just because fish is easily chopped up and you can barely see it. I got a deviled chicken as well which was very well prepared. Price is very reasonable too. The only downside is the food takes a long time to prepare(which is a good thing because you know the food is freshly made), so I suggest calling ahead(atleast 45 mins prior to arrival during prime lunch or dinner times). I am looking forward to going again soon. To the owner– please don’t let your quality go down. Lot of other Sri Lankan restaurants in that area were extremely good when they first opened, but after some time the quality of the food and cleanliness of the restaurant kept degrading. I would also like to see a unlimited Kotthu night at least once a month(I did not know about the one you had before). Good luck to you!

The best Sri Lankan restaurant in town! Love the modern ambience with a touch of Sri Lankan culture. The photo wall was one of my favorites! Don’t forget to check it out when u visit Ceylon Curry. Serves awesome seafood at a very reasonable price! Loved the seafood buriyani!!! Food took a while but only because it was made fresh. Had a few appetizers while waiting for the food & it was delicious! The watalappan dessert was the best I’ve had ever! The owner is super friendly & the staff is awesome! Looking forward to my next visit!!!

Visited this restaurant with my family. Little bit of a chaotic experience since we were the only ones in the restaurant and the owner/hostess did not seem prepared at all for customers. We ordered the crab curry in advance(per instructions on Unilocal) but it was nowhere near ready when we arrived. So we waited for a good 20 minutes for the food to arrive(we also ordered lamprais). But the food was wonderful. My brother, who turns into an eating machine when he likes something, went totally mute upon tasting the crab curry and proceeded to devour the entire dish. It was that good. Even my mom, who’s Indian-born, was impressed. The lamprais, to be honest, was not the best thing that I’ve had(I’m not really used to sweet in my South Asian food) but the crab curry kinda made up for it. Definitely will come back to try some other dishes.

Stopped in late in the afternoon to pick up short eats(Sri Lankan«snack”-type foods, often little dough or pastry-wrapped pockets of seasoned mixtures of meat or fish and potatoes). Since I really enjoyed the fish and egg rolls, I’ll recommend them to you. The chinese rolls were avergage-to-fine, though I’m not a connoisseur. All in all, very satisfying and I look forward to dining-in next time.

If you are a Sri Lankan, you must check this place out! I travel from Queens till Staten Island by subway just to have lunch at this restaurant. It takes me nearly two hours to get here just for lunch but it is WORTH it! As soon as you enter, you get greeted by friendly smiles. The owner is a very helpful and always answers questions with a smile. A husband and wife runs the place so you can taste the passion and love they put into their food. Ordered a Chicken Fried Rice and Devilled Chicken. Some may not be able to wait for 10 to 20 minutes for a dish, but that is what you call when it freshly cooked! Everything is cooked when ordered and not precooked like many other joints. The Chicken Fried Rice was like the way it is made back in Sri Lanka but without all the MSG of course and the Devilled Chicken is packed with boned chicken, a range of spices and vegetables just like home. The spicy food always goes down well with Elephant House Ginger Beer and MD Fruit drinks which they serve in their restaurant!

This little hole-in-the-wall is quite a rare find. It effortlessly brings forth the sensation you’re amidst friends and family, about to partake of a good home cooked meal. After I sort of swallowed my own fish lamprais whole, I proceeded to sort of muscle my way into the banana leaf wrapped moist and juicy deliciousness of the chicken variety my wife was apparently«really enjoying». But to make up for it, I had one made fresh to go… which I also ate myself… later…while sleepwalking… The owner is also a friendly chap. He made a cup of tea for me on the spot even though it is not on their menu. We than talked at length about the up coming Cricket World Cup and the plight of plantain farmers just south of Colombo… It was a good day. If you’re in SI you owe it to yourself to check it out.
