This place was amazing! I walked in and was immediately impressed by the atmosphere. We caught a Lyft to the restaurant. The waitress noticed I was a little cold because of that and immediately seated us by the fire place. I was very appreciative of her attentiveness. It was our first time here so we were really indecisive. She was very patient with us and even gave us good suggestions. I ordered the salmon and OHMYGOD it was amazing! cooked perfectly and seasoned so well I almost cried. I also ordered a lemonade and it was freshly made and delicious. I usually don’t order dessert when I go out but I was so impressed with this place I gave it a shot I was not disappointed. The crème Brule was great and it came with fruit so fresh and sweet it could have been a dessert itself. My only complaint was the menu needs to be extended. I am not a pork eater so the already limited menu was reduced even further. Other than that, there are no negative things I can say about this place.

Atmosphere is cool. Service was very good. The menu was small and the food was just ok. Pretty generic beer selection. I’d rate it 3.5 stars, but rounded it up to 4.

Mixed review. I’ll start with the positives: + Atmosphere is warm and cozy. Fire place nice touch. + Valley parking. + Food was a mixed bag. + Risotto and Stake pretty good. Especially the risotto with the large chunks of garlic. The negatives: — Menu was on the lighter side with limited options. — Seafood risotto. The risotto was excellent but the muscles and clams did not taste fresh. Rather small and some had bad taste. — Special menu. Even though the night’s special menu does not make it to the main menu, a print out would of been nice with prices. Taken back by the $ 44 Surf and turf platter. — Clam soup had the same problem mentioned above regarding taste and size. — One of us got sick next morning, would not be surprised if the clams/muscles had something to do with it. Overall 3 stars. Good but room for improvement. I’d definitely improve on the seafood dishes.

We stopped by Gatsby’s a few days before my son’s and husbands birthday to check out the place as a potential for a smallish family affair(keep in mind that our immidiate family is 14 people). We were right away on over by cozy setting and welcoming staff. The owner, Sam, was accomodating, spent time with us going over the menu and just catered to all of our needs. We ended up having early dinner, I had the French Onion soup and my husband the salmon – both superb quality. The day of the party, we had 20 adults and 11 kids! We were set up in the best section of the restaurant, by the fireplace; With enough room for both parties(adults and kids). The service was great. Food delicious — highly recommend the gatsby tower and fried bree as appetizers, salmon and ribs for entrée, fondue and lava cake for desert. We will be returning again.

My husband held a large dinner here for my 30th birthday last night and everything from the cocktails to the cake was incredible! Our extra large party was accommodated perfectly and welcomed warmly. Everything was delicious, but the truffle mac and cheese was out of this world. I almost never do Unilocal reviews but I needed to thank the awesome staff at this restaurant for a perfect night!

I went here for cocktails with a two friends. I had an Old Fashioned and my friends each had Manhattan’s. My Old Fashioned was far below standard. It was watery and tasted like cheap, boring bourbon. Not nearly enough bitters and orange flavor. Only plus I can give it was the lack of a cherry – fruit which most definitely does not belong, but far too often shows up, in an Old Fashioned. The mac and cheese appetizer was acceptable, but the nut-encrusted brie was bland and boring like the drinks. I have no plans of returning.

This is definitely a place I would return to in Staten Island. I loved the casual and unique atmosphere and décor. For our party of 8 for lunch we basically tried most of the things on the menu between appetizers and entrees. The waiter/host/bartender was kind enough to call ahead to let us know that a marathon was in process for the time that we reserved lunch, but we were able to make it anyway. Since there aren’t that many staff during lunch they ask for your patience if you want to order an exotic cocktail from a hard cover menu. Most of us opted for the simple order, however. Overall was a great visit, can’t wait to explore it during dinner time.

Went with a group of family and friends. All of the food was fantastic! Drinks were very good — they have time period cocktail books on the table so it’s just as much fun picking them out as it is drinking them. We did think the vast selection may have confused the bartender — but any wrong drinks were comped and new, correct ones were brought out. You can’t go wrong with the great prixe fix deal! I had the pan-fried goat cheese, the shellfish and risotto entrée and the lava cake — every bite was out of this world! Décor is awesome! In need of better /well-trained wait staff and it would get a 5+ in my book!

We really enjoyed this place and are sad we didn’t stop in sooner. We sat on the outdoor patio, they had a nice set of tables outside, candlelight, flowers cute decorations, almost makes you forget you’re on Bay St. Our waiter Dino was really great and friendly. The asparagus and brie was delicious. Free glass of wine with a Unilocal check in!

I have been looking at this place everytime I am in SI and for some reason or other end up going somehwere else. Finally I made it to Gatsby’s on The Bay and I was not disappointed! The service was attentive, the food was delicious. What we had: French Onion Soup: standard no frills delicious aoup New England Clam Chowder: quality seafood clean flavor Truffle Mac and Cheese: slightly fatty but good. Would get again. Crème Brule french toast: too moist for me, but everyone else enjoyed. Chicken Panini: moist chicken breast with roasted red peppers and mozerella Gatsby Tower: A+ Seafood Risotto: someone said it was one the best they have had in a long while. Chicken Potpie: creamy, most chicken. Still crunch string beans, peas and carrots topped with a puff pastry square. would get again. And again. Ruben Sandwich: quality standard ruben. Bread pudding: very good Apple puff pastry: delicious Crème Brule: delish. I am happy to see this place on SI. I am definately excited to try the dinner menu next time.

I went to Gatsby on a Saturday evening for my mother’s birthday and it was truly a wonderful experience. ALDO was our waiter and he really knew his stuff and knows what it means to succeed in the customer service industry. My family got a split of the seafood risotto, short ribs, the branzino, truffle butter Mac and cheese and the calamari. Everything was amazing! Quality ingredients and quality service. The only thing I would say that was slightly negative was the the seafood risotto was a little over salted, but not due to the chef, but the sweating of the mussel and clam juice seeping into the risotto.

I went to Gatsby’s the other night for dinner with my friend. The food was so amazing, I couldn’t believe it. My friend has the braised short ribs and I had the seafood risotto(my server recommended) which was excellent. The service was amazing, I think my server’s name was either Justin or Jason but he was amazing. For dessert we had crème brûlée, that was also very good. I definitely recommend checking out their drink menu. They are all cocktails from the 20’s and the Rickeys are delicious. Will most definitely be going back!

My husband brought me here for my birthday dinner and we had a nice time. The décor is nice and the mannequins in the window area are very cute. We started with drinks, and I fell in love with my cocktail, the bourbon cobbler. This had to have been one of the BEST cocktails I have ever had made for me in my life. The bartender there is PERFECT and I hope they never leave! We had tuna tartar and a salad for appetizers, they were tasty. My husband got the duck, which he was very happy with. I got the branzino, which was nice, but a little bland. It was on a bed of risotto, which I also found to be bland — which was disappointing. For dessert we shared the chocolate fondue, which was nice. I am not sure I’d come back for dinner, but the service was delightful. I will, however, come back for the cocktails — as they were perfect!

Love it. We came out of town and saw the restaurant on Unilocal.Decided to try it out. Best decision ever. The food was great as well as the service. We tried tuna tartar, fried calamari, and mixed seafood risotto. Everything was delicious. We’d definitely try it again it we have chance

I was looking for a place between New Jersey and Brooklyn to meet up with two old friends, and chose Gatsby’s because of its great Unilocal reviews. Unilocalers rock! We picked the ungodly hour of 3:00 p.m. for our meeting. Since I’m on a Night Owl schedule, this was going to be breakfast for me(!), and dinner for them, and that time coincided with the beginning of the restaurant’s dinner hour. We three all decided to order from the prix fixe menu, a three-course meal for $ 19.20(the oddly-priced homage to its 1920’s vibe). Two of us had the pan-fried goat cheese, four small rounds surrounding a nice portion of perfectly cooked pencil-thin asparagus, which were topped with a warm fig chutney. Delicious! Our other friend had the risotto cake with prosciutto & mozzarella, topped with a roasted red pepper pesto, also a hit. We’re boring, but we all ordered the salmon, two pieces of black and white sesame seed crusted filet, served with rice and a yummy stir-fried vegetable mélange, with red pepper, crunchy carrot strands, pearl onions, and spinach. I took half of mine home along with my dessert, knowing that I’d be hungry at my usual 10 p.m. dinner time. Ah, dessert. Chocolate lava cake for two of us, crème brûlée for the sophisticated, opera-loving lawyer(that would not be me). I did have the mini-scoop of ice cream that came with the cake, knowing it wouldn’t travel well. I loved the ambiance. The fireplace was lit, the contemporary jazz music was nice and not intrusive, and the outdoor patio will be lovely if winter ever subsides. The bathroom is adorable, too, and was clean and well-supplied, even if I couldn’t figure out how to work the non-automatic paper towel dispenser. Best of all was the warm and wonderful service. From the very beginning, our waiter, whose name I tried so hard to remember that I even asked if he spelled it with an «a» or an «e» — Lindsey? — was friendly, helpful, and accommodating. Though we sat for several hours, first over our wines/cocktail, and then their cappuccino and my excellent coffee, we never were given the impression that we overstayed our welcome. On the contrary, when we finally left, my car was deader than a possum run over by a semi. My good friends waited with me in the cold as I endured the long wait for road service. At one point, one went in to tell them that if road service came looking for me, that we were in the back in the parking lot. I think it was our waiter who offered to try to jump start my car. When another friend went in a while later to use the bathroom, the staff invited us all to come in out of the cold and have coffee or tea. Though we didn’t avail ourselves of either offer(I was sure the battery wasn’t the problem), we are grateful for the caring and concern shown to us. Though it’s a much longer drive for me than my friends, the next time we get together, it will be back at Gatsby’s. Long may it reign. My only quibble is the name of the restaurant: WHAT bay? Oh, I guess they meant to call it Gatsby’s on Bay. Bay Street, that is.

Gatsby’s offers a very initiate atmosphere. So intimate that’s it’s like having a conversation with Daisy Buchanan herself. The dim lighting and the guardrails inside the windows give the restaurant an authentic 1920s ambiance. Let’s talk food. For appetizer, I sampled the tuna tartar, the fried calamari, the fried cauliflower, the salmon bisque, the Mac’n’cheese, and the mussels. The presentation of each dish was excellent. Aesthetics are superb here! My favorite was the cauliflower; I really enjoyed the seasoning. For my main course, I ordered the duck breast. The duck came with a creamy Apple and mushroom glaze over a bed of mashed potatoes and carrots. The slices with crispy skin were the absolute best. For desert, I split the fried ice cream. It was an outstanding American interpretation of the dish. The food was great. The staff was extremely courteous and attentive. I’d love to see Gatsby’s during the summer with an open patio!

Yet another place that I completely disagree with the rave reviews of the place. Personally I really don’t think I’m that picky of a person, I really have no idea why more often than not I disagree with rave reviews of a place on Unilocal. Came here on Valentines day for a nice meal with the Mr. and neither of us were impressed. First, I must say that I was rather disappointed that they only offered the Valentine’s day prix-fix menu on that day. I’ve browsed through the menu days beforehand to see what I wanted and I walked in with short ribs on my mind. We were only offered the prix-fix menu upon seating and I asked if the full menu was offered and it was not. *sad face* Being that we were already here, we decided to make the best of it and ordered. He ordered the Gatsby tower and I ordered the Mushroom ravioli as an appetizer. Tower was really more of a duplex but I guess«tower» has a better ring to it. Ravioli had an odd taste. Not sure of the peppercorns were burned or if the brandy wasn’t cooked off, but it had a bitter-ish aftertaste. Entrees were Salmon with Mango salsa for him and the pasta with sausage dish for me. It was ok. The food was room temperature. Not hot, which struck me as odd. Nothing really much else to note here. Dessert was a cheesecake for him and the molten lava cake for me. Lava it was not. it was more of a ganache consistency. BF noted that the cheesecake was definitely of the frozen variety and tasted a bit freezer burned. I will say the complimentary champagne was a nice touch and the décor was nice and the fire place added a romantic touch. I hate to be a negative nelly and rate this establishment so poorly since I like to see local businesses thrive but I was just not impressed.

I don’t know what took me so long to come here but I finally found the perfect occasion — the boyfriends birthed(woohoo!) I made a reservation for a Friday night and found parking right away, we entered and we were greeted quickly and politely and got to sit right away which was perfect. I loved the décor, exposed brick walls, small photos on the walls, jazz music, rustic 20’s feeling and I really liked the fire place, they even had an outdoor seating area. Theres also a bar area that almost looked full which was nice. I could def. see this as a nice couples and date night. Our waiter was awesome he was polite, outgoing and very chill. He let us know the specials and what was really good to try and I liked that cause you know how anal I am when it comes to my service. The menu was basic but everything sounded so good from the chicken to steak and seafood they also offer daily specials. Our choice in menu we went with : — bottle of red wine(Cabernet Sauvignon which was excellent) nice little toast! — mussels which I loved how they came out so properly arraigned and sized on the plate it just wasn’t like poured onto the bowl like usual. That was fancy! = salad with walnuts, craisens, pears, blue cheese crumble, and fruits which was fresh and a good start before entrees. — filet mignon with mashed potatoes and steamed veggies, the steak was nice and proportion and cooked just the way I like it which is seeing the pink inside ! — chicken breast which came with mango and avocado(LOVELOVE) — side of asparagus — fruit fondue platter which is the only picture I added it was great, once again something different new and enjoyable and its great to share with others I just didn’t get any marshmallows. Prices are reasonable.
I just loved how the menu mixed fruits with regular everyday veggies its just delicious and I’m a fruit fanatic but you don’t find many places that combine the two much and that will stick with me as a good thing. You can also check the menu out online which the site it well done and helpful and plus I love hearing the music on it too! Towards the end of the night the owner Sam J. came over and introduced himself and it was a pleasure to meet a Unilocal friend also, he was very polite, professional and asked how our night was and even wished the bf a happy birthday! He complimented us with after dessert drink and CHEERS to you Sam J that was very nice of you and you have yourself a great place. I for sure will be back I wanna try the sangria which looked great and mojitos. I wanna bring some friends and family to come and try a new blend of a restaurant in the neighborhood and I hope this place sticks around!
