Island Sewers

I called today because our sewer was backing up, and the website said they would give an estimate over the phone, which was $ 165, and there was a 10% discount on first time customers. The guy was there very quickly, and we were happy about that. He brought a piece of equipment into my cellar (maybe it was an electrically powered snake?), and I heard it running for a bit. He came upstairs and told us the sewer was completely blocked by roots, he couldn’t get through, and our sewer pipe could possibly be cracked. He said he needed to call in another guy to get a camera, to try to see if it was cracked, and that would be $ 850.
I remembered that I purchased insurance through the DEP to cover broken sewer pipes, and told my husband to call them to see if this would be covered. The DEP said they would send an independent contractor within 45 minutes. We decided to use the contractor who would be replacing the pipe, if needed. We paid the guy from Island sewers, plus a very generous tip, and apologized and explained that we would be using the contractor that our insurance supplied. We figured that we would have to pay the next contractor to diagnose the problem, then our insurance would pay the rest.
The contractor (Liberty Water & Sewer) was there quickly and took the same piece of equipment into our cellar, worked for about ten minutes, and unclogged our sewer. No charge! So, we paid Island Sewer to do a job that they didn’t do, and they wanted $ 850 to use their camera to «diagnose» our problem. Thank goodness I had the insurance, or I would have paid twice. I can come to two conclusions based on what happened here today: Either the guy who came here was incompetent, or they were ripping us off. The only reason they deserve one star was because they got here fast. Otherwise it should have been zero stars. Buyer beware.

We’ve had several plumbing issues, big and small, in our 100+ year old house. We first called Island Sewers with a big job – using a camera to see into our pipes and verify that tree roots were the problem then clear them out. Great service. When we thought we had a simple clogged basement toilet, we called 2 other plumbers. They didn’t fix the problem… not even close. Finally called Island Sewers. Manny stands by his work. He and his guy just worked a few minutes and called me. I thought they had a question. They were done! Worth every penny to really fix our basement drain issue. Not a band-​aid solution like the other plumbers. Their name may not say «plumber,» but I will not be calling any other plumber ever again. Only Island Sewer. Took me 13 years to find a reliable plumber on Staten Island. FINALLY got one.

I called island sewer and they were not only polite and professional, but they responded within 45 minutes of my first call. They got the job done and even honored a discount the technician gave me when he wasn’t supposed to. Couldn’t ask for more from them. Really appreciate it when companies give you the service you’re looking for, especially nowadays, when no one honors their word anymore.

Answered my call immediatly and was at my home in 10 minutes, he diagnosed the problem in 1 minute, and had the pipe cleared in another 10 minutes.
It may not be as quick for everyone but I was sure glad called them.
He brought the right equipment and went right to work,
PS, it always seems like a lot of money after the pipe is cleared and he’s gone in a ½ hour, but you know you would have paid twice as much to stop the crap from backing up into your basement. and he did have buy the right equipment and come when you called (in a panic).

Called them to fix my leaking toilet. Did all the work within an hour. They were a bit pricey with the cost, but they did the job as they said. The pipe was leaking a bit still and I called them back, they came the same day and adjusted the rubber clamp and everything is ay ok! I called them again to check if my pipes were leaking anywhere in my bathroom as I was dealing with a different contractor that was trying to put off work that he had done by blaming it on my pipes leaking. Island sewers came and did a thorough inspection of my pipes and even wrote on the receipt that there was no leak from the pipes so the contractor I was dealing with could not wiggle his way out of redoing the job of the shower floor. The only reason I did not give them 5 stars is because I found it funny that they claimed they did not accept credit cards when it states clearly on their website that they do. Guess they just wanted cash, that’s staten island for you.
