Wednesday night is the perfect night to go for a quaint quiet authentic meal. The waitresses were very helpful with the menu. Speaking of menu. It was very hard to make my appetizer and dinner choices because everything sounded so amazing. This only means I’ll have to come back for more. I had a hibiscus margarita which was perfect. To start I had the crab cake appetizer which was so flavorful and light. My entrée was the carne asada with rice and plantains. The meat was so tender and the rice wrapped in plantains was a perfect duo together. There wasn’t a crumb left on my plate. No room for dessert. I highly recommend this place and look forward to going back again in the future.

Was just there last night for first time in a while. Always loved the food and last night proved the same. We kept it simple and light so we started with Jalapeño margaritas which were very nice. The guacamole is very fresh. We ordered the ‘mild’ which had a little heat present on the back end. Still very good! I feel the Garlic shrimp/plantain appetizer is awesome honestly. It’s a very good size and big enough to share with a few people. Very tasty! Also had the Pollo Patron entrée. Chicken was very tender and the fresh crème was a nice touch. Glad to see that Maizal is just as I remember. Keep up the good work!

We had brunch in the garden. It was an unbelievable day with sunshine and a breeze. Lunch was fresh and delicious. The service was very good and we enjoyed our food !

I have been to Maizal twice in the last year and I must say I have had a great experience both times! They are a little pricey but well worth it.

My favorite Mexican restaurant! Let’s start with the ambiance and décor, which is quite exquisite and romantic. The service and staff are fabulous and very friendly. They are very accommodating and always pay attention to details. The food is delicious! Every time I have been there, I have enjoyed my meal! The drinks are refreshing and always with a twist. The food is absolutely divine, guacamole is always a must to start with. I must have tried the entire menu at this point and love it all. I encourage anyone to be open to trying their specials. Had the lame shank the other day, what a treat!!! By the way, the Mole sauce is fabulous. Great place to go with love ones, savory a meal and some time.

Really delicious food and great service. We went for a early dinner on a Friday night and were seated right away. We started with the medium spicy guac — it wasn’t very spicy but still delicious. I had the tiger shrimp in tequila sauce and my husband had the lamb shank special. Both were really delicious and very large. They also note on the menu all the dishes that contain gluten since most of them don’t, I thought that was a nice touch. The atmosphere was lively but romantic at the same time, dim lighting with candles. It was our first time and we’ll definitely be back.

Very nice atmosphere. Décor is very nice and modern… Food. I had hand made Guacamole not spicy. Very good. The Guacamole included in my Shredded Beef Nacho’s was very spicy(I don’t like spicy things.) My only error. Is I decided to take my Nacho’s home. The chips, beef, and cheese didn’t travel well. a bit soggy. MY fault. They left off the tomatoes thing, sour cream… Even though it was a bit soggy. IT tasted wonderful. and I enjoyed it very much. My girlfriend had the shrimp Nacho’s she didn’t speak a word. just munched. When she was done. nothing left and muttered good. I definitely have to eat in. The atmosphere was so relaxing there were about 4 tables occupied on a weekday night around 8:30 pm. It was also cold outside. Music was nice also. Staff was very helpful and polite.

I went here with my son & daughter-in– law, for my birthday. One word: L-O-V-E! The place was busy. We wanted to sit outside in their terrace, so we had a drink at the bar while we waited — speaking of which, the Margarita was a bit pricey,(for Staten island) but it was perfect — no holding back on the tequilla. I had the Shrimp — served with Rice Pilaf — absolutely scrumptious! I can’t wait to come back…

Meh. Not sure if was an off night or what but overall the meal was not very enjoyable. While the guacamole was tasty the chips were on the stale side. The real fail were the chicken fajitas.(How does a Mexican place mess up a simple dish like that?). The four of us who had it all agreed that the lukewarm chicken was rubbery and completely inedible. The accompanying black beans seemed can opened and heated i.e. watery and without any flavor. Although not usually being ones to complain, when the waitress asked how everything was we politely said something about the chicken. She said she would mention it to the chef but never apologized or brought the issue up again. Perhaps concerned about her tip she then automatically added the gratuity to our bill; unusual for parties of less than six. Won’t return. Hoping for better luck next time in finding a great Mexican spot.

I wish I could comprehend all the 5 star reviews! The portions are small… prices high and service is very spotty at best The atmosphere– yes I’ll give you that but 5 stars? No My entrée was Taco Bell-esque and the sangria tasted like sugar water

Haven’t been here in a while. Wonderful as always. There aren’t many restaurants on Staten Island that are intimate, quiet, good background music with great authentic fresh delicious food. I love all the specials. Started with complimentary chips and salsa. Ordered a carafe of sangria — very good This time I had tortilla soup, fish(grouper) tacos and for desert mango mouse and coffee. My husband had the soup, short ribs and for desert churros and espresso. We ate every last bite and enjoyed it.

Prob the best Gauc I’ve ever had and a good portion too. You see them making it right on premise. Food is really really good. Steak was very small. So took off a star for that. But def come here for the gauc and drinks.

Honestly, the only thing that would make Maizal better is if I could move in. I’ve visited Maizal solo, date night with hubby and also with large groups. The staff is very accommodating and friendly, it’s always a pleasure to visit. Typically, I like to jump around on the menu and try as many different things as I can. I always try to have the guacamole and/or the nachos. As far as drinks are concerned, the sangria is always tasty, but their margaritas can’t be argued with. Typically, if I have a difficult time deciding, I’ll have both. ;) Go eat!

This is our go-to place after 5BBBT every year. They have both outdoor and indoor seatings. We never had to wait in line to get a table there. On a nice warm & a sunny day, their outdoor seating with a pitcher of Sangria or Margarita is ideal. Friendly staff, quick service, and good food — no matter what I ordered. Recommendations: Jalapeño Margarita, Red Sangria, Guacamole.

This place is adorable. They want to be authentic Mexican and I feel are the only spot on the island that mostly is successful at it. Their menu is a bit eclectic, but anything you order will be good. The guacamole is flavorful and made on the spot. The chicken quesadillas are a bit spicy and made with pulled chicken. They are made from one folded tortilla. They come with salsa, guacamole and sour cream. The fish tacos are okay. The fish was fresh, but they could use some more greens and other items inside the taco. I’ve also tried tequila and lime shrimp. So far this is my favorite main course.

I’ve come here for a date night and also with a large party. I enjoyed an intimate date night a bit more; the place is quite small and it can get pretty loud and crowded. With just the two of us, we had a table off to the side and were able to enjoy the night. Since they didn’t have a table ready right away, we sat at the bar and grabbed a drink and really enjoyed ourselves. When it came to the large party, we were right smack in the middle of the restaurant and had an extreme amount of foot traffic bumping into us near the door, which got quite uncomfortable and claustrophobic at times.

Love this place! Do: Try the sangria(so good!) Try the guacamole Try the garlic shrimp and plantain app(you won’t regret it) Try the tres leches cake Sit outside on a nice day! Don’t: Don’t get the stuffed chili This place has great atmosphere. The restaurant is beautiful and cozy. Very limited seating, but it honestly makes it that much more intimate. Great place for a date. It really sets the mood. The bartender is so laid back. My group hung out at the bar one time while we waited for patio seating to open up. He made pleasant conversation and laughed with us. As soon as we got a table he voluntarily offered to transfer our orders over to our table bill. It was very convenient. Only problem that seems to happen often is getting them to pick up the check after they’ve dropped it off.
