Nakata is a super casual, friendly, delicious Japanese restaurant on the Island that never fails me EVER. Every time I cross the Verrazano and pay that horrendous $ 16 toll, I know I can look forward to Nakata Sushi. Highlighted Rolls: Love Roll, Dragon Roll and Rainbow roll. They also have a two for one special on sushi, that actually spoils me when dining anywhere else. Why can’t all sushi spots have two for one?!

Good sushi and great service ones you go to the restaurant. Delivery service is ridiculous — don’t even say thank you for a 12% tip.

Excellent both eat in and delivery. Definitely try the deep fried sushi, outrageously delicious. Reasonable prices, buy 2 special rolls get one free. Very friendly service.

This place never let me down. The service is polite, the food is awesome every time, and the price is right. Every single day, they have a 3 for the price of 2 special roll deal. I’m on the West/south shore of Staten Island, and I drive 25 minutes to go here despite living 5 minutes away from 2 other sushi bars. Love Nakata!

Place is not very appealing when you walk in. Staff was pretty un friendly for the most part and were not really willing to be flexible with my order. I asked for a few minor changes and they were completely unwilling to accommodate. With that being said i did not truly enjoy my sushi eating experience as much as i usually do and think i may give another place a try next time.

This place has great sushi! All the ingredients are very fresh. Staff is rude and snappy though.

Love this place, I go there almost every week. Food is tasty and fresh. Service is great, would recommend it to anyone who enjoys Japanese cuisine. Also, very happy with their prices.

The location is good and there is always parking. Even though the rolls got smaller over the years, the food is still good and the fish is fresh. There chicken dishes and fried rice need some improvement but still good. I recommend this place to anyone looking for a decent sushi place with fair prices

Food is good, fresh. I would have rated Nakata more stars years ago but they now pale in comparison to their earlier years. Food is overpriced for what it is. Décor needs an update. As do their attitude. You give me a pinch of ginger and I ask for more, it’s not unreasonable, don’t scowl at me. Also, my god are they CHEAP. They charge you for anything extra. Get the heck outta here. It’s too easy to go elsewhere; maybe I’ll even get parking without worrying about that joke of a little parking lot.

Chicken teriyaki was rubbery, when I brought it to manager’s attention he said«that’s how it comes», spicy tuna looked unappetizing, salad was barely chopped, best thing they offer here is the tap water. After we got the check, we paid with my Visa card and they wrote down my name and the security code of my card. Claimed it was in case of a charge back, obvious fraud attempt. Lots of arguing and lack of professionalism between the management and servers here. Very poor experience, would not visit again.

First off, the food here is decent, clean, average food. Nothing special, but fine for the price. Closer to a 3 star rating. However, when averaged in with the incredibly rude and inappropriate service I’ve received on two occasions now, their rating should be a 0. Since other reviewers have noted a similar experience, diners should beware. There are way too many other options for similar/better quality food at the same prices in the area to deal with rudeness. After a 12 hour workday, I decided to pick up dinner. I call and order a dinner box and some dessert(with my friend in the room, so I know I ordered the correct thing). I even repeat myself a few times, because the guy on the other end seemed confused. I go and pick up my order, no problem. Go home and find that instead of the dinner box, they’ve given me the main dish order, which is essentially a giant dish of meat and a slab of rice. Definitely not the awesome medley of sushi, dumplings, and goodies I ordered. Still not a problem, right? Any other restaurant, you call them up, they fix it(at least in my experience). Instead, I get some sassy lady who calls herself the boss(I’ve yet to be convinced that they didn’t just put someone’s hormonal teenager on the line) saying nothing can be done, since it’s «my fault» that I didn’t stop in the store to unstaple the paper bag and remove every single item to check my order(I wish I was kidding). After 10 minutes of snippy banter, and her discussing something in Chinese with someone next to her, she agrees to deliver the fix. I ask her how long, to which she snidely responds«No idea». After I tell her that’s an inappropriate response, she tells me «at least 45 minutes». For the record, I live 8 minutes from the restaurant. Considering the maturity of the person I spoke to on the phone, I wouldn’t be surprised if I get my food in 3 hours, cold, and spat on. Will absolutely never order from here again, and will go out of my way to post this review on every single review-site available. I’ve never written a negative review in my life(I don’t like the idea of down-rating a place which may be how someone brings home a paycheck), but tonight was so out of control, I’ve decided to make an exception.

I’ve eaten from Nakata about 10 times in the last 2 weeks… Guess you can say i was on a sushi roll. For a smaller place, less fancy than some of the other options, the food is great. Consistency is a major factor… And each time i ordered the sushi/sashimi combo and whatever rolls, they were exactly like the last time. I think the sushi rice has great flavor and stays intact, not falling apart as easy as it does at other places. The cuts of the fish are perfect for the sushi and not too small or too thick. Lunch special is great. Thats all.

Food is good but not amazing enough for poor service. Pickup and delivery here is super unorganized and takes forever. Won’t be back here

I spent $ 40 for dinner and they wanted to charge extra for a small cup of hot sauce. That’s just not right. Great food but the stinginess is at a whole other level. I won’t be back here. Service to me is a high priority.

Nakata might as well be a Nakout when it comes to «fresh food/price paid» ratio. I have ordered from this place too many times to keep count and have visited the place on numerous occasions as well. I have recently done a solo dinner/melancholic retreat at the restaurant and left feeling largely satisfied, relaxed, unbothered and in my element(enter stuffed face here). The atmosphere of Nakata is unpretentiously subdued. The place just lets you be with perfectly timed tea service, laid back waiters, and slightly dimmed lighting. The food feels fresh which really messes with your mind when you realize that the price won’t slim down your wallet. The concept of «to die for» is lost on me, but softness of their tuna in pretty much every dish, will have you walking toward a bright white light in no time. Their special rolls are also a great deal with 3rd one free if you order 2. Kani salad is delicious, but slightly dense in the way it’s cut, and desires a bit more character in the form of accentuating flavor. Finally, there’s something about the way the entrance door is set-up. There isn’t anything in its surrounding décor to delay the impact of your arrival. Once you open it, it makes you feel like you’re in everyone’s space and immediate view. Conversely, the point of entry becomes a bit of a distraction for everyone who is already seated, undermining otherwise perfectly balanced and zen-like attitude permeating the tiny space. Overall, Nakata is still my go to choice for the best FF/PP ratio on the island. Dining experience is highly subjective to the taste of a patron. Great food and humble atmosphere almost always win me over and I will continue to get my fix here for years to come. One of these days when I open their door, I’ll feel like I’m about to get ushered to my table. Until then, I’ll still come here or call for delivery regardless.

The sushi is alright. but there customer service is pretty bad. My order came out to $ 9.80 and since there was a $ 10 minimum they refused to deliver even when I said I don’t mind paying the extra 20 cents.

This was my first time ordering from this place and my last. Here’s why: Ordered my favorite beef Negimaki for lunch, spicy tuna and a Philadelphia roll with extra wasabi & ginger. The person taking my order was friendly and spoke English well. Thirty or so minutes later the delivery arrived and I was eager to taste my favorite dish. Portions were small-adequate, not large. The rolls arrived in a tiny metal container mushed together which I found difficult to remove an individual roll. The Negimaki was phenomenal, I was in heaven. But my state of bliss was short lived, I glanced at the receipt and found the restaurant had the audacity, the unmitigated gall to charge me for extra wasabi. «WTF!?» I thought! Are they serious? Never in my life, and I consider myself an aficionado of Japanese cuisine have I seen a restaurant charging for extra wasabi. I was appalled. Needless to say, I will not do business with them again, and am back on the search for an exceptional Negimaki. The restaurant would have received one star if it wasn’t for the quality of the beef.

This is my favorite local sushi restaurant on Staten Island. We come here a few times a month with the whole family. We love their special rolls which are buy 3 get one free. Prices are very reasonable and sushi is always fresh and delicious. Service is friendly. The place is always busy on weekends. Definitely recommend!

I’ve had sushi in a few places on the island, trying to find something I enjoy. This is the only place I go to or order from now. There is a large selection of special rolls and you get 3 rolls for the price of 2. Comes out to about $ 30. That’s more than 1 serving for me. I really like their green tea. The atmosphere is very cozy with the decorations and the lighting. When ordering out, the delivery doesn’t take too long either(about 30 minutes), however, I usually will pick it up to make it faster(15 minutes). I recommend this place for the food, atmosphere and price.

I never thought I’d live in Staten Island long enough to dine at a good Sushi restaurant here. The Rolls are great and the Sashimi is fresh. They have really good prices for their portions! I can’t get enough of the buy 2 get 1 free Sushi rolls deal here… ‘Red Lobster Roll’ & ‘Lion King Roll’ are a MUSTTRY! They also have a unique appetizer selection, I do my best to try something new each time but I always find myself coming back to the ‘Tropical Storm’. I HIGHLYRECOMMENDIT! When my friends visit me in Staten Island, I’m usually embarrassed to take them out to eat around my neighborhood because the majority of the restaurants here are below average. But I can always count on Nakata to do the job! The ambiance is homey and the staff is really great. You could sit at the sushi bar and watch the sushi chefs go to work or you could sit at a table for a more intimate setting. Either way, expect to have a more than satisfying experience at an affordable price! Tip: If you plan to dine during prime dinner hours, you might have a hard time finding parking in front of the restaurant. Just circle around the block a couple of times and you should be able to find some open spots!

Great sushi and service. Similar to Mitoushi, but better cause you can actually see the food and read menu without having to open your cellphone light. Plus there are more specialty rolls to pick. Food tasted fresh and it came quick. You can ask for brown rice added to the sushi. Buy 2 specialty roll and 3rd is free… great deal, especially when it’s filling.
