Just want to say I’m been going here for a while an I really like it, only problem is some of the machines face each other so it can be awkward when working out staring right at someone else. They really need to turn the abd machine around.

If you need a gym strictly to keep in shape without breaking your bank account, this is the gym for you. There’s no sauna, no stream room, no swimming pool, no basketball court, no racquetball court, no aerobics classes, no spinning classes. If you want those amenities, you can try LA fitness down the road. The one big advantage this gym has over the other gym is that it’s open 24 hours m-​f. And it’s clean for the most part. They could upgrade their locker room. The lockers are a lil dinged. Some of the lockers are not lockable. But that’s not a big issue though. Bare bones gym for 10 dollars a month, you can’t really go wrong. 3.5 stars

For $ 10 a month and a comfortable atmosphere, you can’t go wrong with planet fitness! Also, the hours are way more convenient than most gyms.

Not bad for $ 10/​month. The equipment is pretty new and hours very convenient. It’s also entertaining to people watch.

It’s $ 10/​month. The staff is super nice. There’s a parking lot. There’s plenty of machines. They are open 24 hours, except for weekends. I do wish they offered classes, but would that be worth the $ 40+ it’d cost to join the local gyms that do offer classes? I really don’t think so. This place does attract a weird mix of people, but what gym doesn’t? Plus I’m not there to make friends, and no one interferes with my workout, so it is really a non-​issue for me. I took one star off bc I still do miss classes and sometimes it gets super muggy/​smelly in there (especially during peak hours) but you can’t deny that there is no beating their price and hours.

Planet Fitness is a gym built for those who want to stay physically fit and avoid those weight slamming, mirror posing, conceded, egotistical juice bags.
Ok, now onto the review. Planet fitness has two multifunction cable machines. Numerous machine weights for single body parts. Countless arc trainers, elipticals, and treadmills. Smith machine. A dumbbell section with benches although dumbells do only go to 60lbs. This gym is definitely a great place to get in a good training session in. Especially, for those just beginning or intermediate gym enthusiasts. People come to get their workouts done unlike the other gyms which turn into social clubs.
Final thought, people it’s $ 10 a month where else can you get this much equipment think about it.

I got the black card when I signed up and so far I’m liking their plan. The gym is huge with loads of different machines to try. The staff is friendly, unlike other gyms. What’s cool about the black card is I get to bring a guest for free whenever and I get free access to the tanning booths and the massage chair. They don’t have classes but they do have trainers that help you w/​problem areas.
BTW: First Monday of every month: Free pizza!

It is my hope this review is entirely fair and balanced.
I’ll start by saying I am very pleasantly surprised with Planet Fitness (PF). My expectations were extremely low and my intentions were to use PF as a stop gap measure until I found a more suitable replacement having trained in the recently shut down Bally’s Fitness.
Having a strong knowledge base of various training methods makes it possible to train any body part effectively, albeit with a degree of ingenuity and creativity. There is no «free weights» per se, save for the dumbbells (which only go up to 60 lbs.) For someone used to training in a more hard core gym this will take some getting used to. Otherwise they have an assisted chinning station, full back station in their «jungle gym» and the PF specific machines allows for a really nice chest workout with the bench press and fly stations. They have some sweet machines in the «30 Minute Workout» section as well, though it is allegedly against the rules to use the machines outside of doing the circuit or the Lunk Alarm will be sounded.
I say allegedly because the staff is extremely disinterested. They do not work on commission and believe me, they are fortunate for that. I would be very surprised if someone on the staff would be paying close enough attention to anything that would make them signal the alarm, and that’s a good thing. I find the whole idea of the Lunk Alarm insulting and offensive. The more advanced trainees at this gym are not the ones that present a problem. It might be a good idea to sound that siren when someone parks themselves at an apparatus for 7 minutes while they sit there sipping their drink or when they «save» equipment with their towels or when they bunker down for a session of texting or a phone call with their friends. You get the idea. «The No Judgment Zone» (a misnomer — they judge experienced trainees) is a fertile breeding ground for folks with no common gym etiquette. An additional observation is many members proclivity for parking in the fire lanes directly in front of the gym. While that does not directly affect your workout it does give you a snap shot into those individuals mind sets and sense of entitlement. (I have always been amused at people trying to park as close to the door so they don’t have to walk to go exercise.)
The dress code is laughable. Your are not allowed to wear steel toed boots as they do not want to offend the less serious lifters, but the place is running wild with people training in far more offensive, and I’ll put this politically correct, white (the ones commonly associated with domestic violence) tee shirts.
The cost of $ 10 per month is absurdly low and that must be considered strongly when reviewing this club. The fitness clubs in the surrounding area charge between $ 40 and $ 50 a month. (LA Fitness and NYSC respectively.) Retro Fitness is $ 20 a month but is in Tottenville and the traffic is enough of a hindrance to make one not go regularly.
This gym is more than serviceable for anyone that is willing to be a little creative, a bit understanding of some ignorance as it pertains to proper gym decorum and an acceptance of obeying some rules that may seem a bit silly while others are breaking rules of common sense and courtesy. For a membership that cost less than what a daily newspaper does, you are certainly getting at least your moneys worth and if you can go during the less crowded times, considerably more than that.

At $ 10 a month you get what you pay for. Everyone will be joining at that price. I like to go, work out, and leave. Planet Fitness suits my needs. So what are my complaints?
Too crowded. Most times I cant even get to use the free weights. It’s the lure of $ 10 a month that brings in the crowds.
Some people dont believe in working out and then leaving. They hang out like they have nowhere else to go. Use the machine and move on. There are people waiting.
People are on cell phones while on the machines. Do I need to know your mother is having an operation tomorrow at 7am? Shouldn’t those details be saved for a time when you are not on a treadmill?
Machines are sometimes broken. With $ 10 a month, I guess from the large volume of people using the equipment this would be an issue you can’t avoid. $ 10 a month. 10 bucks.
I’ve only been going for two months but if I get hooked on this cardio /​gym thing, i might consider a more upscale place and pay more for it.

Lots of machines, and the purple and yellow color scheme keep your sense awake. The «anti-​juice head» law is funny & cool (if you make any weird work-​out grunting noises, supposedly they ring a huge gong to embarrass you which makes me laugh) Only $ 10 a month, and a $ 20/​month membership gets you and any other person in for free every time– pretty sweet deal. Had to cancel because the location was really inconvenient (in kind of a deserted parking lot off the 440) and they don’t have classes. Really ideal for anyone who’s into more of the no-​frills, just-​machines type of work out.

It’s $ 10 a month. Its big. Go work out and get over yourself. It’s basic but it will do.
Update 4÷5÷11: They get a star off for not having adequate locker room space for the amount of members that have joined and for not having enough staff to keep the locker rooms clean.

Very clean and well maintained gym. I switch to planet fitness because my friend wanted me to train him. The only thing I don’t like about it is that the dumbbells only goes up to 60lbs, I guess that’s what keeps out the juice bags. No fitness classes and weight benches and bars. Beside no heavy free weights I like it.

I had to edit my original rating. After being a member for like 4 months, I cancelled my membership. This gym sucks. Yeah, it’s cheap but you get what you pay for. If you go anytime after 7 p.m., the place turns into teen night. I don’t know, but since when did kids start joining gyms? On mom and dad’s dime too. They talk loudly on their cell phones, text while sitting on machines and this gym offers nothing, no classes. And forget about going in the summer. It turns into a sauna, so I’m assuming they lower the AC on purpose. Within 2 months I got bored to death of going to this place and watching social hour with the local high schools.
Update: I rejoined. Yes, I did the unthinkable. Actually, I am really that cheap, needed someplace with cardio machines and I was not paying $ 100 + or so initation fee to re– join NYSC club again. I now go really early in the morning or late in the evening to beat social hour. It’s still romper room now and then, but if I go early enough on the weekend, I’m the youngest one there lol. Anyway, I found a way to block out the obnixiousness. Earphones. works like a charm.

For $ 20/​month (under their «Black Card» plan), I am able to get unlimited access to the Planet Fitness facilities. In addition to the basic gym equipment, this includes their massage chairs and tanning beds. (I haven’t used either, though.) I also get unlimited guest privileges, which means that I can bring a guest with me – every time I come in – at no extra charge. Taking advantage of this deal, my boyfriend and I went 50 – 50 on the membership, only paying $ 10/​month each. This works out well for us because our schedules are similar.
Other than these few bonuses, it’s a rather bare-​bones gym. There are no classes, no pools, no saunas, no towel services, no juice/​snack bars, etc. If you want that, you can go to LA Fitness ($ 50/​month) or New York Sports Club ($ 90/​month), both of which are nearby. However, all I need from a gym is some cardio equipment and a few weight machines. Therefore, Planet Fitness suits my needs.
I also feel that the atmosphere at Planet Fitness is much better than that at the pricier gyms. The people who come to work out here are not body builders (and are, therefore, not intimidating) or gym bunnies (and are, therefore, not annoying). You get the sense that people are here because they want to be fit and healthy, not because they want to stare at themselves in the mirrors.
The staff members, I’ve found, are not salespeople. When I came in to join, I was not greeted by a team of smiling pod people hell-​bent on making me join. Instead, I found a group of teenagers at the front desk, chatting with one another. When I asked if I could take a look around, they said, «Sure,» and off I went wandering around — unaccompanied. This might seem rather lackadaisical on their parts but this is actually how I prefer to do things. I was happy that they didn’t follow me around or ask me nonsensical questions. When I was finally ready to join, someone was there to explain to me the different membership plans. I handed over my credit card, signed some papers, and began working out the next day.
My one-​year contract has since run out. However, I continue to pay only $ 20 for the privilege of using their facilities. And, because I like this gym, I will continue to pay for and frequent this gym. But I’m a plain gal who doesn’t need a lot of bells and whistles with her membership. Therefore, you should check out this gym before you join. (Actually, this is good advice for any gym you plan on joining. But you knew that already.)
They open at 12 AM Monday morning and close at 10 PM Friday night. On the weekends, they’re open from 7 AM until 7 PM.
