Are you kidding me? A winery? On Staten Island? Heck yes! My husband and I have driven by this place countless times and wanted to check it out but never made the time to do it. We recently checked it out and had an amazing time at their Thursday evening winetasting. We did not check out any deals and thought we would just pay the $ 10 per head that their website advertised, but when we arrived it was a $ 15 per head charge. Still a very reasonable price, we walked up to pay, and the gentleman, Nick, asked us if we had a Groupon. I hadn’t even thought to check out Groupon and we said no, and he basically sold it to us. $ 15 on Groupon would buy you two tastings. He even let us buy the Groupon while he waited and we saved $ 15 because of him. Thanks Nick! The owners welcomed us several times throughout the evening, it was a very family-friendly atmosphere. It was the owner, Irene’s birthday, and her entire family was there to celebrate. It was a really nice evening, we even made new friends. As we were gabbing away with our new buddies, the owner basically dropped a nearly full bottle of wine at our table, gratis. I mean, seriously? How much better can it get? This place definitely deserves every single star I’ve given it. We plan on coming back, and were thinking of even making our own quarter barrel of wine at some point in the future. Staten Island is often underated, this place is a perfect example of that. Definitely check it out and have some fun. It’s worth the trip out into Travis.

My boyfriend and I had a Groupon for a wine tasting a few months ago and really enjoyed our experience. Even without the coupon, their wine tastings are only like 10⁄15 $ a person which I feel is reasonable. The event is on a Thursday, which is unpleasant for working people who get up early the following day, but you get your fair share of wine and you can stay for as long as you’d like. You get to try 4 different wines each and they give you plenty sips worth. The only aspect I felt could have been better was the variety. When we went all 4 wines were Red. I personally would’ve enjoyed some white and blush mixed in, especially because I don’t like red wine. I was kind of screwed but enjoyed myself regardless. I think they could benefit as well from letting people know on their website what wines will be there that night so that if those, such as myself, don’t see something they like, they can pass. Other than that, the place is very quant and cozy feeling. They also make their own pizza which was really good. If you don’t want pizza they allow you to bring your own food which is cool. Don’t be deceived by the outside. It’s definitely better inside. The façade looks like a warehouse and we were debating even going in based on it. We’re glad we went in anyway. Total surprise!

I think it is a neat idea and overall something different to do. New wine making equipment and they let you play with it. Good for couples looking for something to do, meet new people and also learn something new, all while making some wine. What better way to spend some time with friends when you have finished with white water rafting, dive bar hopping, and making pottery. You don’t need to go to school for years or even read a book about wine making. They have folks who will walk you through the process. I like it because it is close to home, you can choose a wine from their comprehensive list or create your own blend. I think making one’s own blend is kind of neat and great conversation. I like the idea of taking one of your bottles to a party or when having folks over and sharing the experience with them in a way. I also love the idea of making a batch with your bridle party or a wine club, a milestone birthday, an anniversary and the list goes on. My Bride and I are still new at this place but look forward into going back and I will update as we do. Remember to always drink responsibly Crazy Cuban Out.
