Excellent food, delicious coffee. We came here on a Friday morning around 8am and got a table right away. Staff was great, food was a bit greasy but very good.

Great disco fries! We started going here 2 years ago and the food is consistently great! Always crowded which is a great sign! Service is excellent and it’s a fun upbeat environment. Great breakfasts on Saturdays. Wish they were open a little earlier. Been getting there at 8am but they haven’t always been open. Going to go again soon!

Went to city hall and was looking for a good place to eat when my husband and I came out. We came across this place. The staff is awesome! They are friendly and funny too! My hubby ordered the Chicken Cordon Bleu on a roll and I had the Bacon Cheeseburger on an English Muffin. I had never eaten a burger on top of an English muffin before so I’m thinking the burger would be an average sized burger. I was wrong. They brought our sandwiches out and they were huge! My burger was delicious. I was fighting to try to finish it and couldn’t. My husband and I traded and tried a little of each other’s food. Needless to say, he’s getting a burger when we go back. I’m not really a fan of chicken sandwiches but his sandwich was pretty tasty as well. He enjoyed it and ate the whole thing! I will be getting the Texas Burger when we go back!
Oh another thing that I took note of while I was there was of how helpful and caring the staff is. A woman fell and hurt her head outside of the restaurant and they were bringing her ice and calling her family for her. They made sure she was safe and waited with her until the ambulance came. I thought that was truly awesome especially for NYC. Some people would have stepped over her and not cared. Bravo to you Gavel Grill!

I was in Staten Island for an interview. It was 8:30 am. People told me there were no restaurants open in the area. I only found one other place that didn’t have a bathroom. So this place was perfect. They accepted credit cards and had a restroom. The staff is friendly. And the food was good. They gave me free refills on coffee. The service was fast and friendly. They seem to have a great relationship with the locals. The only downfall to this restaurant is I couldn’t get a table because there aren’t many and they fill up fast. I had to sit at the counter. I had a mozzarella omelet, hash browns, rye toast and coffee. My bill was $ 8.38.

This place is the best breakfast in the area. Hands down.
The coffee is fresh ground and delicious. Copious free refills and they’ll always give you a cup to go. Seriously, the coffee is really good.
For $ 8.75 you can get the big boy breakfast 2 eggs, 2 pancakes (I recommend the blueberry/​banana), 2 slices of bacon, 2 sausages, toast and home fries. It’s awesome.
Their sandwiches and wraps are delicious and the service is always friendly and prompt. Free delivery in the area as well.

Great French toast! Friendly staff :) It’s walking distance from the ferry. I’m not sure if delivery is still available but I can say that their delivery service was great lol hope that comes back!

Really cute place, very busy in the afternoon for lunch so you might not get a seat. The Big Boy is a great size and everything was cooked perfectly. Pancakes are on the smaller side but taste great.

Love it here! Frank is truly a gentleman very nice guy! Lovely staff and great food!!!

Short walk from the Staten Island Ferry. Small. Friendly service, average food, reasonable prices. I’ll go there, again.

I’m just a tourist and this place was Amazing! Great find! Prices are great. Food is fantastic! We each had sandwiches. The meats were incredibly tasty! The restaurant was super clean and the staff was really friendly. Loved the community feel as people came in just to talk to the employees!

I got the Reuben. It was good and cheap. What I didn’t like was the service. It was really slow and had to ask the waitress twice for a refill on water. It took a while to get our food so you really have to invest time into this diner. Food was good but would not come back because of how slow the service was

The food was tasty, and our server was polite. (She was also very attractive.) A small, and cozy atmosphere. The ambience is very ‘greasy spoon’. I did enjoy it.

Was in the neighborhood with my niece & decided to dine in for lunch… The staff was extremely friendly and professional… The place is cute /​small /​comfy & tidy… My niece and I ordered salads… We are both very picking on ordering salads, but let me tell you… It was good… We got so stuff on small salads… Lol… I also ordered a sandwich to go, grilled chicken with mozzarella & balsamic on a roll… I ate this at home and it was slamming… It also came with potato chips… I will definitely be heading back soon…

Awesome little spot not far from the ferry at all. I’m working on a nearby project so I went walking around the area and stumbled into here. I ordered their Romano sandwich which was a very delicious chicken sandwich with fresh mozzarella and peppers. Perfectly put together, w/​a side of chips, cole slaw, & a pickle. The guy behind the counter was very chill and attentive even pouring out my Snapple into a cup with ice. I’d be back here no doubt.

Amazing service and quaint café! Popped in after free Staten Island ferry ride to see Statue of Liberty. Friendly staff and amazing smells! You really feel like a small town diner when walking in. We ordered the gyro plate and it was amazing!!! This is a short walk from the pier and prices are very reasonable (spent 12 in total). If I lived in Staten Island I would easily become a regular!

Offers from breakfast and lunch and they even have a nice little menu for frankfurters ! Like you never really see that much. I’m not a fan of them in general but it was cool and different too see that. They have some nice burgers fresh made and also wraps.
Belgian waffle was great and fresh I enjoyed it with my sliced bananas and with my Turkey sausage links. Coffee comes in cute little mugs and its fresh.
It can get pretty crowded around lunch time so good luck finding a seat.
Workers are pleasant and welcoming.
Easy and close walk to the SI Ferry and same block at the St George Theatre also.

Gavel grill was a decent lunch spot during a torturous jury duty stint. The service was quick, but indifferent. The food was served hot, fast and was solid for diner food. If your stuck in court or serving on a jury, gavel grill is a decent lunch spot.

Cute little diner near the Staten Island ferry. When you go in, it’s almost like heading into a family house or like a time machine to the past! The staff members are really tentative and friendly. Our waitress was patient with me when I wanted to order the chili dog, but they didn’t have chili =(SAD LYFE. It was too cold, I think they didn’t get a chance to get the ingredients? But I will definitely come back to try the famous chili dog. When you order coffee, you get free refills! Such cheap food and awesome quality on your table!
I ordered the chicago dog and it was delicious! The toppings were fresh especially the peppers. Didn’t order the deluxe, but they still give you chips! Yum. I also tried some of the philly cheese steak! The bread was crispy and the meat was perfectly aligned. Not too much cheese, not too much steak. The proportion is perfect! Would definitely want more of that too.

My fiancé and I came here on Saturday for breakfast. There’s no parking — it’s all street parking and it’s around a courthouse so most of the parking nearby is not open to the public — it’s mainly for the employees of the courthouse so we had to park a bit far in order to eat here. The service was good. We ordered the French toast, the scrambled eggs, the omelet — which came with hash browns as well. The omelet was pretty good actually. I liked the choice of toppings. The French toast tasted dry which is weird. I didn’t taste the scrambled eggs but he said it was okay.
All in all, typical diner type food. I doubt I’ll be back.
