Top Tomato

Customer service sucks. Bought chicken that went bad. Manager stated «that there was nothing he could do about it» because it was a managers special. Chicken should not have gone bad in 1 day if the seller by date was yesterday. Sorry! I should have been offered a refund for what I paid or a credit towards a new purchase. I’ve been a regular customer for more than 10 years. Will never spend another dollar at any of their stores. I guess it was worth it for them to lose a good customer over $ 6 worth of chicken.

Beware of stores new coupon policy:
Store only accept 1 coupon per each visit.
You hv to visit store 6 different times for 6 different items for advised on Valpak.

Very nice old school Italian supermarket. Great deals on everything. The one thing I would STAY AWAY FROM IS THE PRE-​MADE DISHES. I HAD THE CHICKEN WITH BLUE CHEESE WITH HAM AND PENNA WITH VODKA SAUCE. I threw up so far two times today since lunch time. Never getting there premade food. Will come back for everything else.

Ok this place seems to have become my go to place out of convenience. The place has many of the items I need. I remember this store when they had one on 86 street and ave u in Brooklyn. I would give this place four stars but some of their items upset me. Having been a butcher myself I get upset with the presentation of meat cases and meat products themselves in many stores. This one has an easy fix. Hot sausage has to be HOT!
Please if you the owner can see this please tell your guys to put more red pepper flakes in the sausage, and cut down on the paprika. Red pepper flakes gives it the heat, paprika gives it the color and your sausages can almost glow in the dark. And put fennel in there also. It’s not Italian sausage without fennel.

I take my mother here shopping. We both shop from the cIrcular, meats and deli items. Wish the place was a little bigger. They have a very big turnover in this place which is the main reason we like it here because the food is fresh. I like that I have a top tomato out in Jersey and she has one on the island.

This is not a good Top Tomato. I prefer the Bay street one. The parking lot is horrendous because of Fun Station and a bunch of other businesses in the plaza. The deli doesn’t make sandwiches which is silly when they have the cold cuts and the bread. The pasta salads sit out on the top of the deli counter and look like they’re rotting. The workers seem annoyed by the customers. I don’t ever leave here satisfied.

Nice place fore produce! I always wait for thursdays for the new specials. Look at the website, they sometimes have specials not listed elsewhere (like $ 2 gallon of milk). most cashiers are moody teenage girls, but they are not rude. They sell to-​go food here but it is not a restaurant. Overall a nice experience.

Nice people, nice service with quality fresh fruits. Meat. And veggies! I love coming to this place the people at nice and the service is awesome! I went today and got an awesome deal in the Xmas tree! Still good and not dying like other yard who also charging more!

We order from here to my office a lot. Their catered food is fantastic, and they have a nice selection. I went to drop off the sternos last time and wow, I was not expecting this place to look like such a dump. It has a very old supermarket feel about it, and the the shelves are very close together. Still, if you need to cater definitely check them out.

Sooooo… as a life long Staten Islander, having visited all of the Top Tomato locations, I have to say this one is my least favorite… Bay St. being the best… Good for running in for quick items… deft stay away from the prepared food… some examples are the stuffed mushrooms (lots of paprika, but sadly, none if any grated cheese in the breadcumb mixture… tastes kind of like they’re stuffed with sand) Also the «rotisserie «chickens are pre-​cooked, just go to the store around 930 –1000am you’ll find them cold and precooked warming up under the heat light… the last straw was the grated Romano I bought there… I truly believe it wes cut with flour to save them money… absolutely terrible, wouldn’t even melt… but had already thrown out my reciept, so was not gonna even try and return it.

This Top Tomato location is the closest to me, but my least favorite. It’s way too small and always crowded– usually with not the nicest people, which doesn’t help the situation. The parking lot is small and the lay out is horrible. My husband and I joke that the name of the stories top tomato because we have yet to find good tomatoes here! The produce is hit or miss, but the cheapest prices around so what do you expect. The meat department here is excellent and top quality. They carry Bell & Evans chicken and I will go out of my way to come here if I need to buy some cutlets. The deli department is nice, their homemade fresh mozzarella is delicious. I also like the store made macaroni salad. You can find the Italian imported iced tea here and also the coffee soda, so that’s cool. Their fresh baked breads are really good too.

Love how some of the stuff is cheap but is alittile messy they don’t really organize there stuff…

This is one of those places where you gotta lay all your cards out on the table and see what your working with in order to get a rating.
Where should I start. FIrst the young lady who answered the phone was very friendly. She wasn’t like the normal staten island folks that are just plain rude.
I was feeding a bunch of corporate folks and needed a 3 ft sub on the fly. They were able to accommodate my request quickly in 30 mins. I really cant be upset with them that I can only pick from one type of sandwich. What should I expect in 30 minutes, so Ill let that one slide. The sides were alright, nothing really jumped out at me as being over the top delicious. The macaroni salad was ok. My least favorite was the coleslaw. Pickles were deelish. Overall, for about 70 bucks everything worked out pretty decent. They supplied forks, knives, napkins and plates. Oh, I’m not to crazy about the 10 dollar deposit on the plastic crate.
Overall, Your gonna get 3 Stars

I have been going back to this place for many years. They have a very good selection and varitety of fruits and vegetables and many fresh herbs. Always good deals and prices on eggs. The store used to be very crowded but a few changes to some of the aisles and there is a decent amount of more room. Deli counter is well stocked but a long line all the time. Line moves at a decent pace but not fast enough for me. Too much lallygagging. Have to get in early for the fresh bread rolls. Their biggest asset is the prepared foods. If you live alone or just plain lazy, this is the spot for great meals. Lunch and dinner, hot or cold, they have it covered. Their rice pudding is outstanding.
I had a winter holiday party for about 25 people prepared by them and it was great. Everything was provided and I just had to pick the stuff off and away I went. Worry free. Parking is decent but I prefer to get there early, so it is not a problem. Customer service is very helpful but cashiers all lack personality and cheerfulness. Great oldies always playing in the background.
Also have locations on Amboy Road, Page Ave, and Bay Street in Staten Island.

Huge selection of items in a small space. Their deli counter and premade foods is great. What I found disconcerting was that the cashier kept up a running conversation with the cashier behind me. No «hi», «How’s your day?» just starts ringing up my stuff. The only time she stopped talking and looked at me, was to tell me the total. Maybe this is normal here… but it is very rude.

Top Tomato is great for the following:
1) When you only need a few things and don’t want to go to the supermarket
2) When you need fresh produce
3) If you’re not in the mood to cook there are pre made dinners available and affordable.
4) If you need cold cuts and some salads and don’t feel like going to supermarket
Top Tomato is terrible for the following:
1) The parking lot is a disaster
2) If you don’t go early enough they won’t have any bread left
3) Too much stuff in too small of a store
4) They don’t make heroes

They have some decent deals on the meats, which is good and the price for produce is ok. We got a deal on olive oil & balsamic.
The problem is the place is waaaay too small. Brought my RPG to make some space, poeple were complaining it was too loud. Next time ill bring my Doomsday Machine, if it’s back from the Geek Sqad.
My problem is, we bought 5 different types produce, and here is the play by play.
1pm: sit on the couch with punchkin to watch Shrek, again. After a few OK grapes, we hit a bunch tasting like mold… ack… is that why the bag was TIED and not just «ziplocked» at the store, so we cant even discover they are spoiled?
1:09pm: reach for an asian pear, very good… just a bit over riped. Punchkin does not like the sour interior, so daddy eats it.
2:33pm: snacks? again? Bartlett pear is OK, but did not seem to enjoy being brought home… Is turning brown already, but taste is OK
4:44pm: getting ready to prep dinner, lettuce is rotten inside… wonderful… Now I have to run out and get more.
So I guess it’s OK… did not want to give less than 3 stars because I still like their pre-​prepared meals and deli counter… But produce is awful…
It’s back to Costco for produce for your olé’ Jonny…
