Awesome steaks, great drinks, and the ambience here is always on point. I love the front porch swing — it reminds me of my parents’ house when I was growing up! The restaurant is fancy by day, and fun by night. Their happy hours mean some of the best priced drinks in the city. The servers are always polite and do a great job of explaining things and checking up on their customers. It’s a wonderful little local business and definitely worth stopping into during your next outing downtown!

NOSTARS. Absolutely terrible management. Had a reservation for graduation today and ended up having to set up our own tables and chairs. Then, proceded to wait 3HOURS(no exageration) for our food. Server tried his best but managment only assigned one server for a room full of 70 people. When I tried to talk to the blonde owner lady that was supposedly«running the show» all she did was argue and deny then literally walked out and never came back. I had to approach her again and all she did was try to blame it on her servers and didn’t try to fix anything. Again, she turned and tried to walk away while I was talking to her. WORSTMANAGMENTANDRESTARUANTEXPERIENCE I HAVEEVERHAD.

Worst steak I’ve ever had! The put a flour gravy with tomatoes on a choice steak? The potatoes were cold inside. Not good…

My girlfriend made a reservation for us two days before valentines day but upon arriving, the hostess informed us that no one had written us down for a reservation. We proceeded to wait 35 minutes to get a table even though at one point there were 8 open tables. I informed the hostess of this but her only response was«our kitchen is backed up». Then once seated, we realized that the restaurant was only providing a small valentine’s day menu, 2 appetizers to choose from, 2 entrees, and 2 desserts. Also, the sample menu didn’t give prices for the«valentine’s meal deal». We also weren’t told over the phone while making our reservation that the full menu wouldn’t be available. Our server was awesome, the appetizer was decent, the fillet which we both ordered was top notch but the dessert, strawberry shortcake, was terrible. It tasted like a puff pastry with 5 tiny slivers of strawberry. $ 100 later I wasn’t very impressed. The fillet was good but overall the dinner was meh. To be honest I don’t think I’ll ever go back. It’s an ok restaurant.

My husband and I loved Chops when we first came to Statesboro. We brought friends to Chops for the excellent filet and have always had rave reviews from our peers. Tonight, however, was our second disappointment, and perhaps the reason we won’t return. The filet has been taken off the menu. We were told that there is a new chef who is «changing things up.» A steak house with no filet? Okay, so my husband and I each ordered the sirloin. We ordered each of our steaks cooked medium. We like a warm pink center. Ours came out still moo-ing from the pasture. The«fresh seasonal vegetables» were a disappointment as well. The carrots were raw and the broccoli was way overdone. The best thing on the plate was the mashed potatoes. For a $ 20+ plate of food, I’d much rather go to Longhorn, sadly. I’m unsure if it was the owner or his wife, however, the woman that has asked us repeatedly on our last few visits if our food and service is good — well, she sits at the end of the bar getting drunk and loud. When I’m there for a pleasant evening out with my husband, and my food sucks as bad as it did($ 100.00 later), I’m beginning to see where the restaurant’s priorities lie.

Returned for dinner only because we were nearby and it was getting late. I told our waiter about my earlier experience with the NY steak. He was shocked and asked me to try again. I did and I must say it was a beautiful piece of quality steak. The issues the kitchen had in May 2014 were resolved and resolved to a high standard. I will return. Glad I gave Chops another chance.

I had a big party in the back room for a wedding rehearsal and the service was horrible. Had like 3 waiters for 60 people. Absolutely unbelievable. Half the food was cold and it was just thrown together. Do not plan a party here! You have been warned.

A very nice surprise in Historic Downtown Statesboro. Greeted with charm and served with grace. A great meal served perfectly and a generous bar. Chops, we will be back!

I went with a very large group of people on a Friday. Chops staff were able to locate a very large room for all of us. We filled up the whole thing. For a very large group, service was great. At least 2 or 3 staff members attended to us. Drinks and lots of them always arrive promptly. I ordered a top sirloin steak. it was decently priced and quite delicious. The mashed potatoes that arrived with it were decent too. The grits and cheese were a delight too. This place is a complement to Statesboro, which is a rather«Meh.» city. Otherwise, there is nothing else to do here.

A simple review: Ambiance is great and not a college hangout. Bar is separate from the dining room but you can eat in the bar area(where my wife and I did). Had the surf and turf and the fish was awesome sea bass with a syrup glaze. Steak was large for me and more fatty than I expected. We were there on a Friday(date night) and the crowd was steady and mostly adults. Its kid friendly though and located downtown. Our waitress, Aspen, was cute and very good server. No live music but for is that evening being able to hear each other across the table without shouting over loud music noise was a plus. We split the surf and turf but with that and her wine and my scotch the bill hit$ 80. Its worth it to me without the frenzy and the noise to sir and eat, have a conversation and enjoy the ambiance of low light, exposed brick and wood. Will definitely return.

Went tonight and took some customers out for dinner, went to Chops on Main based on their previous experience. This is also my first visit to Statesboro, and let’s face it it’s quaint, but NYC it’s not. When I walked in, on a Tuesday night there wasn’t hardly anyone there. I immediately noticed the nice atmosphere and décor. Wood paneling, exposed brick and nice bar setup. Things are looking up! Sat down and waited for my party to arrive and enjoyed the quietness. Everyone showed up and we sat down in a nice booth with a view of the kitchen area. Again, great atmosphere, they put some time into the décor and space itself. The people I was with couldn’t stop talking about how awesome the Bone in Ribeye was on their past visits and I immediately knew what I was going to order. We started off with apps of Calamari and coconut shrimp. Calamari was a nicely seasoned mix of rings and real squid, served with a side of marinara and it was good. Coconut shrimp also, was well done and were 5 large shrimp with a nice tangy dipping sauce. We ordered dinner and the 3 of us were immediately disappointed to learn that they were OUTOFTHEBONEINRIBEYE!!! They were also out of the Porterhouse. WTH people??? It’s like Subway running out of bread you know? Oh well, we went to Plan B and ordered the«boneless» ribeye. The meal was served and the ribeye was on the bottom end of Choice, in my expert opinion, and large portions of all three of our steaks were overly fatty and full of tendons. As per my standard, I will say something if I’m not happy with my meal. The Manager apologized and informed me that they just recently started cutting their own meat in house, which on the surface is a good thing… but you really have to know what you’re doing. OHWELL, they took care of us, somewhat and comped a dessert and we moved on. I think that since one member of the party couldn’t eat over ½ of the steak it should have been handled differently. The rest of the meal was pretty good. The side dishes all were all fine and prepared nicely. I had the baked potato and mushrooms which would have complimented the meal better if the steak was of higher quality. Dessert was, perfect. Cookies and Cream Crème Brulee was very nice and a well made french press coffee finished the meal out. The service was attentive and our waiter kept the drinks full, it was exactly the way it should be. All in all, it was just OK and I say that mainly because when I go to a steakhouse, I expect you to have what is on the menu and short of going to the Outback where I know what I’m going to get, I want my meat to be of good quality and during this experience it fell short in this area.

An amazing restaurant! One of the best meals of my life there and I’ve eaten at a lot of places. We ordered the shrimp and grits and some sea bass and it was home run good. This place could do great anywhere and the fact that its in a town with mostly chain restaurants makes it even a better find. Service was great as well and the downtown location in a refurbished space adds extra charm.

I just ate at 119 Chops for the first time. Nice atmosphere. I liked all of the dark woods, which lent to the warm atmosphere. They have«Happy Hour» from 5 – 7, though I’m not sure what the happy part is. I asked about specials, and the server told me there weren’t any other than what was on the menu. I ordered the flirtini, which was pretty good. We ordered the crab cakes as an appetizer, and they were very good. We each ordered a caesar salad, and my husband had the ribeye and I had the Filet Oscar. My husband said his steak was good, but next time he’ll order a different cut of meat. My bacon-wrapped filet was cooked perfectly, and I really liked the sweet potato mash. We never received any bread, and the server never mentioned any specials, but about 30 minutes after our arrival, I heard another server telling another couple about the specials, then the table behind me received bread and their server told them about the specials. Although our server was very attentive, he missed quite a bit. He even took my martini glass, but didn’t offer another. I was quite miffed about the bread, the specials, and my second drink.

Top of the list for fine dining in Statesboro. Menu has a classic steakhouse menu with all cuts of steak, as well as seafood, pork chops, lamb, ribs, duck breast, and shrimp and grits. The best appetizer I had there was the fennel rings, which were better than any onion ring I’ve ever had. The bar area is classy and has a nice atmosphere. The bartenders will make about anything.

This restaurant is a local treasure! And it’s nice to have it downtown. The menu is great, and the specials are always good. Very nice bar, and very cozy atmosphere; you don’t feel crowded at all!

Meh… Atmosphere is OK maybe for drinks and a very casual — not trying to impress anyone kind of dinner. It’s obvious by the excessive use of wood paneling(walls, boothes, and around the support beams), there was very little imagination put into the design. The diffused lighting is warm and the brick wall at the bar cozy looking. The wait staff was attentive but kind of clueless. There were many times when the server mispronounced the food, or wasn’t sure exactly what the ingredient was… if you are serving it you should know. The food preparation was mediocre at best. We had a shrimp salad to share to start with peanut dressing — which was topped with croutons AND Asian noodles… why do both? I had the salmon which was OK, and on top of a HUGE bed rice that the server told me would be a small amount… also served with broccolini which should have been called butterlini since it was literally dripping with butter… my husband had the pork chops which looked good, and our dinner companion had the NY strip which looked like a sad cut of meat judging by the amount of fat he cut from it. The desserts were also mediocre and very obviously«out of the box» courtesy of Sara Lee. I don’t really recommend this place unless you are just not really interested in having a great dining experience overall. Oh, did I mention they don’t have ANY beers on tap? Only bottles. No wonder the bar and the restaurant were completely empty when we left at 10PM on a Friday night. It’s a nice looking bar — they should work on improving that part at least.
