I’ve been wanting to try ever since my first visit to Statesboro. I was very pleased. The décor skews institutional(think nursing home) but everyone that works there is friendly and efficient. The portions were on the small side but I guess that is healthier for me anyway. I had the pork with green beans and cheese grits. Very tasty.

Prior to their do over I loved it without reservation. now I’m not quite as crazy about it… their Sunday after church dinner buffet beats anything around.

There are very few restaurants that I can truly say that I love in this town, that I have been coming to since I was born, and have never ONCE had a bad experience at, and RJ’s is one of them. Rj’s has HANDSDOWN the best buffet in Statesboro, if not all of Georgia. Their typical offerings include: fresh turkey, ham, fried chicken, roast beef, mashed potatoes, butter beans, sweet potato casserole, the best macaroni and cheese on earth(other than my mom’s), creamed corn, and tons and tons more! They also have a tinier dessert buffet(free with your buffet purchase), that typically includes fresh strawberries and cream, cookies and brownies, banana pudding, and usually some type of cobbler. Further, there is also a «salad» buffet, filled with true green, leafy salads we all know and love, as well as frozen, pudding, jello and fruit-based salads that were really popular around the 1950’s. But don’t worry, the salads are all really good, if you’re willing to try them! The apple one and the brown mushy one are truly awesome. The place is crowded FOR A REASON, so get there early on Sunday to avoid the line, if you can. Around 11:30am is best! The buffet is only on Sundays, but I seriously try to get my family to go every chance I get, and now that I’ve moved away, I always go at least once every time I’m in town. Outside of the buffet, they have AMAZING seafood and steaks! If you aren’t satisfied with their substantial salad bar, I honestly feel bad for you, because it is very well stocked and has a variety of toppings and garnishes. Additionally, they have very affordable, delicious breakfast. Another thing I love is that they leave a pitcher of whatever drinks you order on the table, so you never go thirsty for even a second! It’s the little things that make a place great. In my opinion, this is the absolute best southern food in the city BY A MILE. Places like the Beaver House can’t even hold a candle to RJ’s. If having authentic Southern food is something that interests you, RJ’s cannot be beat. The owner is one of the kindest people in the world. I hope RJ’s is still here when I have a family of my own, so my kids can grow up with it like I did. Side notes: RJs does special orders for things like turkey on Thanksgiving. It’s very convenient and the prices are very reasonable. They’re also great for groups! The restaurant has private areas for parties and business meetings that can be closed off for privacy if need be. Really nice place!

The best fried shrimp in Statesboro! I’m not sure what kind of batter they use on those shrimp but it is delicious. I usually get a well done bacon cheese burger with cheddar cheese instead of American cheese and it is always good. If you go during the week it is never crowded and the staff is always friendly. I’ve been for the Sunday brunch and the food is very decent but it is crowded with the church flow. They serve a Sunday buffey and my favorite is the baked ham and the macaroni and cheese. Pretty good lima beans and mashed potatoes too. Very good family dining establishment.

The food was not as good as I thought it was going to be, also not a very big selection of food. Salad bar is over priced for what you get.

Great place for food, the fried chicken, mini blueberry muffins, smash potatoes, sweet potato casserole, and sweet tea were great and tasty, but the staff was a tad indifferent towards some customers. Overall the, buffet was good and flavorful.

Went to RJs for Sunday brunch. Very good favors. The southern food is spot on and much better than many other places in Statesboro that got better reviews. Haven’t tried regular dinner, but the sunday buffet is very good.

Cafeteria style steak and seafood. Service was nice, food was okay(could cut down on the fried entrees). The salad bar was limited but clean(very good chicken salad). Nice décor and very good for large groups. Went there after a graduation and everyone had a nice time. Would recommend for groups which didn’t charge a lot.

I have come back to Unilocal(and back to the Atlanta area for the Fall to take a long needed break from school) to resume my restaurant reviews after a long Summer hiatus in Statesboro where I have begun studies towards my MFA in Graphic Design. In spite of my absence, I have been working on some new reviews for restaurants I have tried in the past six months. This is one of them. RJ’s Seafood & Steaks. This place is a «cafeteria style» restaurant but, make no mistake about it, this place is a step or two up from the typical cafeteria. I like the catfish platter however there are many other choice choices that seem to be quite outstanding. I have also tried the fried flounder platter but I prefer the fried catfish. I tried the hamburger platter one night but better burgers can be had elsewhere at some other places in town in my opinion. They have a one-trip salad bar that is not to be missed. It is available as a side item with your entrée. This salad bar contains items one would only find at an expensive restaurant in Atlanta. Chicken Salad and tuna salad taste like homemade and are excellent. Dressings are excellent and taste like made from scratch every day. Each table is heavily laden with condiments. For about 10 – 12 bucks you will be hard-pressed to find a better, more enjoyable meal elsewhere in Statesboro. Also a great place for people watching; plenty of college coeds work here part-time and lots of Georgia Southern faculty and staff dine here. If you opt to stop here on the way to Savannah you will not be disappointed.
