We found this place on Unilocal during an unplanned trip to Staunton for a funeral. This locally owned establishment and staff brought a ray of sunshine to our hearts and our belly’s! We ordered 2 «Healthy Hippies», cheesy grits and coffee with local raw honey. On our way out we purchased the homemade lemon poundcake and orange marmalade to bring to our family which brought some sunshine to them. We had a short visit with one of the owners, John. He was absolutely delightful. If we’re back in the area we’ll be back and plan to let others know about this wonderful place. If you don’t know where you’re going it can be tricky to find. The restaurant faces the front of the Howard Johnson Hotel, not the street.

Maybe they had a limited selection since it is winter? Will try again in summer time although I would just rather hit up the farmer’s market. None of the three food choices looked appetizing so I didn’t eat here. No specialty coffees or anything worthy of being called brunch that I saw. Will update once I come by here again.

Oh my is a good way to describe the food I ate there. No sign on the building, across the parking lot from the Econo Lodge and next to a Chinese place, don’t recall name, you will drive right by it if you don’t have a GPS telling you that you passed it! The salads and dressings are amazing, weird to say I know. We had the dinner special too, roast chicken with mashed potatoes and meatloaf and mashed potatoes. I hate to sound like a teenager but OMG. I am 50 years old and have lost some of my senses, I’ll admit, but the chicken and gravy and potatoes — WOW. My friend had the meatloaf and the spices in it were terrific! I had no idea food could taste that delicious again! We bought almond pound cake, home made soaps… this place is a gem and a definite must the next time I am in Staunton!

We had lunch from their menu. I had the strawberry-pecan salad with balsamic vinaigrette. This was one of the best salads I have ever had! The strawberries were obviously hand-picked. I added the bleu cheese(which was VERY fresh) from my partner’s cheese platter since they don’t care for bleu cheese. The brie on the cheese platter was AMAZING. The goat cheese was fresh and creamy. The gouda was tasty. The other(I have NO idea what it was) tasted like armpits. Hubby got the Cuban Sandwich and did not like at all. There wasn’t much meat on it. The local dairy products are AWESOME. My kid loooved the chocolate milk

Great lunch section! There was a variety of gluten free options from sandwiches, salads, and soup! Coffee was fantastic as was the service. It was quiet and friendly, perfect for a lunch out of the office! Having the store and café combined meant I could do a little food shopping too! Don’t forget to grab a macaroon, amazing!

My family is vegan and we were on our way back from a skiing trip and looking for a suitable place to eat. We found this store on the way. It is really labeled as a Farm Store but they serve food. The store is located in a strip mall that is in what I would consider the downtown area. What I liked best is that they had daily specials, locals were coming in to get carry out dinners, and all of the food was local and some organic if I remember correctly. I cant recall what we ate but my family likes all of the local food, meat, honey, and desserts. The price was moderate and the meals were fairly good. What was best was the waitress/cashier who helped us. She was extremely nice and friendly to my family. We were all very tired and this was good food to cap off a skiing trip. One regret that I recall having is not trying their local branded coffee. I had already had a bunch of cups earlier in the day and it would have been overkill. However, the beans smelled good and I wanted to try it. If driving through, it is worth the lunch stop.

My sister lives in Staunton and is a regular here at The Store. I was excited to come to this wonderful shop and café and was not disappointed! The scones were terrific. John and Sam give excellent, friendly service. You can read about where all the food is sourced on the giant wall board. My sisters had the English scrambled eggs and one of the quiches, respectively, and all were delicious. Definitely seek it out!

A wonderful little place downtown. They serve food, they sell groceries(local products like coffee, tea, honey, locally made jams, cookies, cakes) and the staff cannot be beat. A great place in Staunton!

My favorite haunt in town. Good local food, quiet casual atmosphere and friendly service. I like that they have a grocery area where you can get local goods as well as premade meals/snacks that you can take with you. Sometimes they have food that is safe for a paleo/primal muncher like myself which is a rarity when eating out.

Nu-Beginning’s Store one of my favorite places. Don’t let the humble name«The Store» fool you. Inside you’ll find farm fresh veggies, milk, and eggs. Stop in for a quick bite to eat or for takeaway. I love the expanded tea and coffee selection!

Such a great store. Wonderful prepared foods; always a nice variety. Amazing coffee! And absolutely beautiful fresh local produce. Got a head of lettuce picked that morning. And a staff who is there to be your friend; I love this place. You will too!

Breakfast was great — especially the scones with crème and jelly! Great service! They also carry an array of Mountain View Cheese, which is my favorite local dairy supply, so that’s makes things way better.

I don’t quite understand the 5 stars. The soup we had was so so, the garlic lovers sandwich was bland and on bread I could buy from Walmart, and I couldn’t understand why there was even garlic in the name as I couldn’t taste any. Luckily tea is difficult to mess up, which I enjoyed. That said the staff we’re pleasant but the prices above average for this kind of lunch. Wish I’d gone to Panera where at least I know the quality of what I get. I am all for these little places making a go of it, but folks, go to a few sandwich shops and take note of presentation and content or else I’m afraid you won’t be around long enough for me to see the change next time I’m here. Not that I’m sure I will even consider it.

The Store is cozy and easy to miss, situated in a dinky strip mall by a Chinese takeout across from the HoJo. Don’t be fooled – this is a great spot. Offerings include local(mostly) produce, meat, honey, baked goods, coffee, and tea.
