A most stop while in Staunton. The wines were excellent and we splurged on the Italian cheese plate with a side of spicy salami. I had the Godfather grilled cheese sandwich which was most awesome. Staff was very nice and we were waited on immediately.

This place is great! The staff is super friendly and helpful and gave us a number of tastings of local and old world wines. We had a couple grilled cheeses which were delicious. I highly recommend the CFO. After we were done eating and sampling, we were able to purchase bottles from a good selection of new and old world wines. They also have a good beer selection. Highly recommend!

Not your average grilled cheese sandwich, but a true foodies version, way beyond Velveeta and soft Wonder. Imagine oozing cheeses, mild/savory/intense — paired with preserves/balsamic/mustard/guacamole/tomato jam and served on sourdough/brioche/rye. You gotta love a place that begins with Unilocal — right? Wines line the shelves; there are wine and cheese pairings — cheese platters arrive with olives, figs, dried sausage, dried fruit, etc. This is a perfect late night nibble kinda place, made complete with a live performance.

Staff are all very knowledgeable, which is GREAT about this place. They have a wide variety of wines and beers — I don’t drink much of either and did not really like beer to begin with but after telling the bartender what I like/dislike, he has been able to suggest a beer for me to try and I’ve liked every recommendation, EVERYTIME! Grilled cheeses are absolutely delicious. It’s worth coming here just for the grilled cheese if you don’t drink alcohol. They are very very generous with their cheese portions. The sandwich will be oozing with cheese at each bite. They offer a variety of cheese plates and will even mix it up for you if you request certain cheeses to be paired that aren’t on the menu. Prices for beer are reasonable, can’t speak for the wine since it’ll differ by the glass.

Worth a stop — snack, lunch, early dinner. Go. We had grilled cheese sandwiches and a bottle of wine. We also purchased a bottle to go. The wine selection is excellent as is their beer selection. We went before going to the Blackfriar Theatre — another great element of Staunton.

Hands down my favorite place to spend a relaxing afternoon or evening! They have the best of all my favorites; cheese plates, wine, craft beer, olives, soups and grilled cheeses! If you haven’t visited the Unilocaling Dog yet you’re missing out!

Our experience here was such a disappointment the Beau and I decided to pretend this stopover never happened to mar an otherwise great vacation. The wine selection is pretty limited, without any local wine by the glass which was why I decided to try this place. The uninformed staff(our waitress was unfamiliar with most the wine and mispronounced malbec) served underwhelming food and wine. The glass of malbec recommended to us as «smooth and berry flavored» was definitely not smooth nor«berry flavored», and the cheese plate was a disappointment. My recommendation is that the management hire staff either knowledgeable about wine or provide their staff with some wine education. This place may be the best Staunton has to offer, but it really fell short of what I considered to be a basic level of quality for a wine or cheese shop.

With a name like Unilocaling Dog we had to find out! The storefront sign says« Unilocaling dog» the listing on is «yelping dog wine“and the latter is very accurate! As in Staunton if you are new to town you may suspect that this is a Restaurant! If you are a local then you know it is a Wine and Cheese Bar that serves some Sandwiches and a LOT of Wine! It is a comfortable place to relax and have a glass or a glass and a half with some friends or with people you like better after everyone has had about three! This is Staunton! Very Staunton!

Had a great glass of wine and an awesome cheese plate and grilled cheese sandwich to share! After walking through the shops in town we stumbled upon the Unilocaling Dog. Do yourself a favor and make this a planned stop while you’re in town, you won’t regret it!

Stumbled here while wandering around downtown Staunton and found this gem. The girl who helped me and served me was wonderful. Great selection of wine by the glass, cheese platters, and the best part their gourmet grilled cheeses! I tried their pimento grilled cheese(see picture), it was the best thing I’ve eaten in months by far! Cheesy, melty, large, and put on locally baked bread. Good selection of California and international wines. Need to step up their game a bit on local VA wines. They also have great gifts for other winos like me and cheeses to buy. Will definnitely be coming back.

Great sandwich choices with excellent variations of grilled cheese. Also nice selection of cheese plates as an option. Plenty of fine wines to pick from both by the bottle and glass. Fine craft brew selections as well. The device was OK but they were out of the only soup on the menu and once the order was placed it took awhile for the food to arrive.

BEST grilled cheese ever!!! Ashley was our bartender and she killed it. My fiancé and our are not good with our wines… only good at drinking them. Ashley was knowledgeable about her wines and made excellent choices for us. Now the cheeses, great selection and the grilled cheeses are to die for. If you are in the area, STOPBY!!! Grab a glass of wine or beer… yep they have an awesome beer selection… get a sandwich and enjoy. Ask for Ashley and tell her Lok sent you.

Great service! The server was very knowledgable, and she made some great recommendations, which we ended up actually purchasing extra to take home. Highly recommend«The Italian» cheese plate, as well as the San Lorenzo Montepulciano red wine. We’re out-of-towners, but will be back next time we are visiting town!

This place is amazing! From the service to the food and of course wine. The manager stopped by made sure everything was great. We had to leave in a hurry so we weren’t able to finish our cheese plate. The manager went ahead and individually wrapped the food we had left. I highly recommend the Italian cheese platter and buy a bottle of wine because I guarantee you will want another glass. I absolutely love this place!

The Unilocaling Dog’s concept is fantastic. The charcuterie selection and gourmet grilled cheese sandwich concept is creative… unless a restaurant/bar has a competent staff, creativity means nothing. By far, this is the worst service I have ever had in my life. My husband and I had to wait almost 10 minutes for a server to acknowledge our presence and then he passive aggressively told us our table had not been cleaned. And then he didn’t clean it… He made no suggestions or even presented a selection of wines and then after we placed our order he forgot what we had asked for… including our«gourmet grilled cheese sandwich.» As much as I would like to see downtown Staunton booming with fun boutique cafés and wine bars… unless you are being served by people who actually care about the place they work… A horrible experience overall, The Unilocaling Dog is a complete rip-off.

This place has a lot of potential. By that I mean, there is some work to do, but if they do it, it’ll be off-the-charts! The wine selections are amazing. There are but a few nibble-type hors d’oeuvres and a few grilled cheese sandwiches.(The cheddar-something one is AMAZING!) The service is *spotty*. My parents & I were there and we ended up spending a good amount of money, drinking and eat for a few hours. But we could not get the bartender to make eye contact nor give any explanation about the wines without using a sing-song voice and rolling his eyes. WEIRD. Also weird: they close at 8pm. Why? Who knows? My suggestions: add a few more items to the menu, a few more sandwiches, maybe a few soups and/or salads, and a few dessert items(then you could push the ports, etc.) Also, please look closely at customer service. You have dozens of groceries and hundreds of wines that can be purchased. We were so off-put that we didn’t buy anything and trust me, when we get rolling buying speciality food items, it can be quite something. This is a cute place with a lot of potential. Would give the place overall a 7⁄10 at this juncture.
