Second generation old school Italian and a south south suburban favorite for 40 years. Go hungry because you get too much food, if this is possible. Starts with tradition Olive oil, grated cheese and bread – AND olive tapenade, bruschetta. Try to go easy here because with all meals you get soup/salad/side. Portions are large and south side cheap. Chippino(sp) is loaded with shellfish and cod in a tomato/olive oil based broth. Mouth watering as I write this. And, do not miss the roasted chicken and potatoes in wine and olive oil with copious fresh rosemary – it’s the signature dish at Scrementi’s in Steger. The clubby little bar area has six tucked away booths. Drinks are cheap too. Original proprietor Sam Sr. likely hanging around too, to «give the place atmosphere».

The food here is just hands down tasty! I have been here plenty of times whether its baby showers, wedding showers, family gatherings or just a dinner and I have never been let down. You get a soup, salad and side with every dinner(I’ve never left hungry nor without leftovers) and there’s so many options to choose from there is something for everyone’s palette. They are also very helpful when it comes to substitutions and the wait staff is very friendly. Usually the owner walks around and checks on tables himself, whether its the weekday or on a weekend. Highly recommend this place for a nice sit down meal for somebody with an appetite.

Best dirty martini I ever had. I really enjoyed the relaxed pace that the food is served, gives me time to enjoy conversation. Food was good too.

They were the caterers for my wedding reception and everything exceeded my expectations. For starters we had salad and crostini with butter, bruschetta and an olive tapenade. The main courses were lasagna, roasted chicken and beef., all of which was delicious. Their garlic mashed potatoes were really good. All of the meat was moist and flavorful and didn’t taste like the standard reception food. Some of our guests actually commented about how they wanted to take food home. Their servers were very professional and attentive.

Very mixed feelings about this place as I know a lot of family members that swear by this place. In fact, my family uses their catering for all special events. Their restaurant I do NOT recommend. Went there tonight to a packed restaurant, ambiance was nice and cozy. The owner was there, he matched the obnoxiously large painting you see as soon as walk into the place(Napoleon complex much?). We ordered the steamed mussels, they were overcooked and rubbery… not even edible. I had the house salad, it was fine. My husband got the tomato and onion salad. The tomatoes were mealy and pale pink, again not edible. For my entrée, I got the fettuccine with chicken Romano. It was delicious(which is why I give a 2-star rating). My husband was nervous about his entrée since our app and his salad was so gross. We even joked about how impossible it would be to mess up roasted chicken and potatoes. It was disgusting. It was served in a bowl of broth. His potatoes were half raw, the other half were too crispy and almost burnt. Completely cooked uneven. It already took 40 minutes for our food to come out. During the entire meal we watched the owner stand and flirt inappropriately with the very young hostesses at the front. On the way out, my husband told him about our meal in which he replied that he didn’t care and it wasn’t a big loss if we didn’t return. I regret driving 20 minutes to this place, wish we drove 30 min to the city instead. This place has a lot of nerve charging city prices for a STEGER restaurant. What a joke.

Went there last night to try it out. The atmosphere was very nice. Warm, not too loud, and the staff friendly. I wish I had as many good things to say about the food. It was definitely not fresh. We got the stuffed peppers… sausage was very solid, over seasoned and almost too spicy to enjoy… and we like spicy! The sauce did not seem homemade for ANY of the dishes. He got the cheese ravioli and meat ball. Again, seemed like it came from frozen and the meat ball was like a bad lump of poorly made meat loaf. I got the walleye. The fish was not bad and the green were good but it was nothing to rave about. Just fish and greens. What made matters worse… we came home and did not feel well. He is still having issues! I believe it was more the bad sausage than anything. We won’t be back.

Every time my husband and I have gone into Scrementi’s we have had really great food and service. Usually we go on a week night around 6pm and do not have to wait. We will definitely recommend them to our family and friends.

Arrived at 545 for a 6 pm reservation on a Sunday. Waited 20 minutes before we approached the hostess to ask for some service. Ordered oysters. They were out, or as my waitress said«uh-uh honey.» So I ordered linguine with white clams. Also out. At 6pm on a Sunday. Makes me wonder how much of the menu just isn’t available on a regular basis. Service was the worst I’ve had in a while, even after I met our charming waitress. Wish I could comment on the food but they were out of everything I came to eat, including minestrone soup. My parents(lifelong Crete residents) swear by this place. Maybe I caught them on a bad day, but no restaurant at this price point should be his bad on their worst day. I ended up getting asparagus soup and linguine with crab sauce(the waitress called it fish sauce). It wasn’t bad, and that’s the only reason this place gets 2 stars instead of 1.

Was out in the boonies on work and found this place by accident. Its kinda of big and nice and there was no other client for lunch. Anyways, we ordered mozerella sticks, Salmon and a sandwich. The food was fine but a house fly was circling our food the entire time. Bessie our server brought us complimentary soups.

Always enjoy the food here. Delicious Italian cuisine, in large portions, at a reasonable price point. Banquet facilities are also great. I’ve been to many showers and parties here and they’ve all been wonderful.

Really enjoyed this place. The servers were old school Italian which certainly added to the lore. In addition, the food was good. Started with oysters Rockefeller and calamari and both were really good. We then got the veal chops with roasted potatoes(5 stars), bone-in chicken cacciatorre(4.5 stars) and broiled octopus(2 stars tops). The calamari dish left much to be desired, so the review had to go from a 5 to a 4… especially when its coupled to a side of pasta that had too much water still in the bowl… should be strained a little more. Nonethless, I can’t wait to go again. I definitely think that it’s one of the better Italian places in this area. They also have a lovely space for parties. We were in and out in no time… always welcome!

I’ve been here for several funeral luncheons and the food is always pretty decent but nothing I would go back for. The staff seems like they don’t know how to handle large groups well but I’m sure they can handle a regular table more efficiently.

We used Scrementi’s to cater our reception in June. All my guest had nothing but great things to say about the food. My biggest concern about my reception was making sure guest enjoyed the food. I hate going to a wedding reception hungry and when you are brought your meal it’s tasteless, cold and days old(I did not want banquet food!) Everything was fresh and if you need servers they are able to provide this service. My only regret was I did not order enough servers.

Scramenti’s has held my two graduation parties, my Communion party, at the old restaurant and new. they have held my 2 brothers as well. Very good service and food, always a good time had. my relatives even have them cater for their graduations. My father liles to go on dates often there with my mother and always have plenty of food to bring home for us to nibble on later!

Started out good with very tasty meaty chili as the«soup». Had veal picatta as entrée. I like garlic, but this was overwhelming odor and taste of garlic.. and the veal was tough Crowded but service was very good. Neighborhood type restaurant, so crowd shows probably many returnees. So maybe just bad choice of entrée

This is a very nice place to have dinner or lunch. The food is very good, and if you know what to ask for you can order«off menú». We go for special occasions. Ask for the Bermuda Triangle(shrimp, scallops and crab claws cooked with butter garlic and wine over linguini) DELICIOSO!

**This review is based on a Bridal Shower private party** Holy smokes, this location is… unmatched? Coming from Naperville, I felt like we may as well be in Ohio we had driven so far. After we left the highway we still drove and drove and drove. The area didn’t seem to improve and definitely didn’t look like it would house a cute restaurant. However, after passing a few trees and run-down buildings, we finally made it! Nevermind the area, the restaurant itself is super cute. The room was nice, and staff were friendly. There was a bloody mary/sangria/mimosa bar set-up and that was ultra neat and a great touch to a Sunday affair. The food was… okay. The salad was one of the highlights; I loved the dressing! The food that was served was overwhelming. I wish we knew how many dishes were being served! The first dish, a pasta with garlic and mushroom, was good, but very runny and not enough mushrooms. The remainder of the meal — chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes, fish — was good, not great. The mashed potatoes were swimming in butter, with gravy on the side! Definitely not needed… it was already in a butter gravy! Bad location, good and food, but if you live near the area, it’s a good bet!

Love it! The food is really good and you get a lot for your money. The chicken Romano and calamari are my faves! Any issues are promptly taken care of by the owner or manager. It’s not a chain restaurant so those of you people in love with Olive Garden might not get it. I have had a few family style banquets here too. Their service is spot on and the food is always tasty!
