This is a clearly below average Comfort Inn, but not bad exactly. Overall everything was adequate. There were gnats in the room, and the pillows were way too thick(this seems to be the hotel trend, though). Didn’t get to sample the breakfast, since the room was packed and no open seats; usually this is a time and money saver, but not this morning. Check-in was efficient, but not friendly. Check out was better. In the morning there was a crowd, mostly employees it appeared, surrounding the front door smoking. So many properties are entirely non-smoking, it’s disappointing when one isn’t. On the plus side, they had MSNBC. The last two places I stayed had Fox«News,» but no MSNBC.

First time staying at Comfort Inn. The room was clean and comfortable. The heating and cooling system worked. As for a budget hotel this is not bad. Pillows were comfortable. You get to select soft pillows in the front or firmer pillows in the back. Staff was friendly when we check in. Breakfast was provided at the lobby. There was scrambled eggs, biscuit and gravy. Also, cereal, yogurt, danish were available.

There were several problems with our room(124), some of which were addressed, some were not. 1st, there were gigantic cobwebs in all of the corners. When we went to the front desk about it, they simply handed us a broom. 2nd, we had to place one of the sample toiletries in the drain so that it would stay open when showering. 3rd, when I was blowdrying my hair(using the hotel’s blowdryer), a circuit tripped and we were left in total darkness until they figured out how to fix it. 4th, the«double» beds are super small, not much bigger than twin beds. The carpet could use a thorough cleaning or replacing, the bathroom as well. It was clear the grout hadn’t been cleaned in years. The staff was very nice and overall helpful. They could use a more professional and polished appearance, though. The front desk staff were wearing«smocks» that could have come straight from the 70’s, and they were wearing badges that said housekeeping. That’s not their fault, of course, but a more uniform and updated, professional uniform would probably give a better impression. Overall, it wasn’t a bad hotel, just some little stuff that could use attention. Their price point is rather high, given the conditions. I’d probably stay there again, if the price was better and more in-keeping with the condition or if they gave the place a much-needed renovation.

The staff was really nice and helpful. The rooms and stairwell need improvement. It is really tightfitted in the hallways and entryways. It is a bit dated, but charming and well kept. The pool is nice. There is ample parking. The rooms are makeshift. When the AC went out during a power outage, they gave us another room which was nice. The room we settled in was next to the pool exit which also has the vending machines in it and no air circulation which is awful since the place doesn’t have an elevator and the stairs are here. It happened to hit 109 degrees the night we were there. We asked for a late checkout. My biggest complaint is the noise level. I cannot stay at a hotel without noise buffers. The stairwell door slammed nonstop from 0800−2PM. The housekeeping seemed to hover, fiddle with our door, slam doors, and vacuum around our room, babies were screaming their heads off for almost an hour in the hallway. All of this would have been fine had there been a well made door with no gaps under it. There was no thickness to the bathroom walls as this is where the exit door slams. It is loud just opening and closing a door. What’s the point of staying if you can’t get any rest?

Several days of sleeplessness at a music festival in West Virginia don’t make for good driving conditions when you need to haul a$$ back to central Virginia, a good 6 hours away, in the middle of the night to catch a flight the next day to the west coast. That’s what I learned a couple weeks ago, doing just that. Falling asleep at the wheel of my partner’s brother’s pickup at around 2:30 am on I-81, I thought it might be a better idea to stop and catch some Zs. Holiday Inn Express was about $ 90. Comfort Inn was $ 70. They both had air-conditioning. We just needed a bed for about 6 hours. The choice was obvious. I must say their complimentary breakfast was noteworthy for such an establishment. The self-serve waffle-maker was a hit, but don’t anger the breakfast attendant like Ryan B. did by putting fruit in with your batter. Do it when she’s away ;-) Can’t say I plan to be back there, since it was a mere fluke I stayed there in the first place, but who knows what the future may bring.

I’m giving this place 4 stars because it’s budget accommodations, yet our room was very nice and roomy, and the staff were friendly and helpful. We were attending a wedding in the area, so convenience was paramount and we weren’t planning to spend much time in the room. The lobby is unprepossessing, but the breakfast area is cute, and the staff were friendly upon check-in and later helped us locate the church where the wedding was to be held. The hallway and stairwell on the way to our room were a bit dingy, but again, we’re talking budget accommodations. To our pleasant surprise, our room was very large, with a king bed, sunny window, flat screen TV, mini-fridge and microwave, and free Wi-Fi in every room. The room was perfectly clean and comfortable. There’s a little pool outside, and we saw several guests taking a dip as respite from the hot weather. For budget accommodations, you really can’t ask for much more. I would definitely stay here again if looking for budget accommodations in the Stephens City area.
