I went to this Save-a-Lot today because my Mom found some coupons for really bargain chicken. 39cents/lb for 2 whole Tyson chickens(limit 2) and $ 2.99 for a 10lb bag of leg/thigh quarters(limit 2). So basically, I scored 2 whole chickens and 20 lbs of leg/thighs all for just shy of $ 10!!! That is a real deal — I mean that is enough chicken to make 4 – 5 dinners for the whole family. There was even a coupon for gallons of milk for 99 cents each(limit 2), but it is valid for use next week. 99 cents for a fresh gallon of milk is the cheapest I’ve seen in metro Detroit, post year-2000! Overall, this is a very modest store in the more congested/ethnic/urban part of Sterling Heights bordering on Warren. It definitely is the opposite of places like Nino’s & Trader Joe’s in terms of look & feel & clientèle. With that being said, it is what it is. You can snag great deals(especially with coupon), and they have a real scaled down mini-Kroger version of grocery store-convenience store hybrid items here — so browse around and see if it’s for you. Much of the products cater to the middle to lower-middle working class of south Sterling Heights & Warren. Personally, I will go back the with coupon deals on items such as chicken, milk, etc., and the store is worth a quick browse. It does not have EVERYTHING under one roof, but chances are you will find a deal on a few things you need. Quick tip, check www. save-a-lot.com for local promotions and even printable coupons. The best deals to be had here that make it worth going to are the ‘with coupon’ deals.’
