Please come back or at least open up a truck or something! Haven’t had a fish taco and refuse to until you open back up. Stockton needs you!

Stockton just lost one of the few good reasons to visit. Quite sad, I loved this place. RIP San Filipe.

This was the worst! Who puts a boatload of rice on a shrimp taco? Who eats soggy fish with no flavor? I spent $ 9 on 2 tacos that was disgusting. I will never eat here again. When I noticed the insects flying in the lobby, I should have just left. I only tried this place because its near my company. Ill stay loyal to Las islitas.

This place was terrible. I went here after going to Rubio’s and trying their tacos. Everyone said that their fish tacos sucked, but I have never tried them myself. I went in and tried an Avocado Corn Fish Taco and it was pretty good. Their corn was fresh, their avocado was creamy. It was a pretty good taco and it got me craving a legit fish taco. I went on this website and looked up where to get the best fish taco. Unfortunately, I didn’t have cash on me to try the top choice, so I went to the second choice, which was THIS place. I was craving it pretty bad by this time because I was hungry and the only thing I ate that day was Rubio’s fish taco. Anyone’s fish taco would have tasted delicious at this point. When I drove into the place, the parking lot was empty. There were three cars, and I’m pretty sure those only belonged to the people who worked there. It seemed pretty sketch but I went through the drive-thru anyway. I got three fish tacos, which racked up an outstanding amount of $ 13. What I had wasn’t even worth $ 3. The fish was soggy and tasteless(how do you even make fish so tasteless?) and the coleslaw was bitter and just NASTY. There was barely any salsa, it looked like someone squirted a thin line of ketchup on it. The tortilla was soggy from the fish and broke before I got to take a bite from the taco. I have never had a bad taco in Stockton. Until now.

Came here drove in thru their drivethru. Had 2 pork tacos with beans and a cup of water. Took them awhile to get my food, i didnt recieve my water i asked for. The tacos were soggy and it had tons of beans with 3 pork cubes, not enough pork.

Oyster and fish tacos?! It does sound really exciting but to be honest, I felt like it kind of lacks flavor and were too soggy. I personally love oysters so I enjoyed the oyster taco. The restaurant itself is generally super empty too :/which is never a good sign to me. Perks: Each taco is really big, I could only finish one during the sit in.

i had the oyster taco, and the fish taco. both were great. one was enough to fill me, but i was too curious about the oyster taco. Great place for lunch during the work day, or any day for a quick bite.

I wasn’t really impressed with my last two visits here. They’ve been in business for years and it seems as though quality of fish tacos they are known for has gone downhill! Both times, the tortillas were soaked and soggy from the salsa and white sauce they add, even though the second time I asked for both sauces on the side. Whatever! I’d hate to write this place off completely, especially since it’s in the neighborhood and I have had much better experiences with their food in the past. Their lemonade is really good, but most people are coming for the food– not drinks! I hope they can step it up!

I heard so much about their fried oyster tacos that I had to order one. It was pretty good. You can’t go wrong with anything fried, but at least the taco wasn’t just a mouth full of fried flavor. The décor and cleanliness are lacking. And for a run-down taqueria, it’s not that cheap. But if you want something that’s not mall food that’s rampant in the area, then San Felipe Grill would be the place to go.

I used to love this place when I was at Univ of Pacific, but that was more than 10 years ago– and I think it has gone a bit downhill since then. I stop by a few times each year when traveling through Stockton, and my most recent meals have been fair to good– but none great. Perhaps my tastes have evolved, or I’m used to better quality now that I’m living in SF. Regardless, I haven’t been disappointed to the degree that I wouldn’t come back again. My go-to remains the carne asada burrito with their spicy green sauce, in a whole-wheat tortilla. Always quite solid. Their fish & chips and fish burritos have always been great as well. Sometimes they give you chips and fish vs fish and chips, but times are tough in economically-challenged Stockton I guess. Tortas have always been favorites amongst my friends as well & the lemonade is always great! San Felipe– you will always have a place in my heart– and I will surely return. But I hope you can regain your past glory!

Horrible burrito… what happened to this place? It was good at one time, my only issue before was I brought my pork burrito bit into it but sumone gave me a fish burrito, gross when ur taste buds are expecting carnitas. that was then today my issue was just a boring, disgusting burrito. They had closed down, reopened but shuda stayed closed. The place is totally falling apart. Dont waste ur time or $$$. Thx for a bad cinco de mayo burrito :(

well I can tell you that I was referred by a doctor in the area to go here and try the Oyster taco at this place. OMG what a let down very unclean, tables not busted. The taco would have been OK but The salsa was by far the worst I have ever had in my life. smashed tomatoes? possible stewed but old and warm? what a let down. Also ordered fish tacos, not bad but come on!!! for the price the salsa was terrible. Now I can beat on this place all day but if they change their salsa, get better seafood(the oysters were old) and clean up the place I would go back! Service was fast, their system was good however, the food was not good.

I grew up on San Felipe’s food and little did I know that I would one day work there. I was employed there for about a year in 2006 and have a lot of great memories and made some great friends, some of the staff I worked with then are still there now. I worked the register and drive thru and I also did food prep, some cooking here and there and closed the restaurant. I’m happy to report that everything was made fresh and we always did our best to keep our environment clean even though it may not look like it on the outside sometimes(someone mentioned the cobwebs in the dining room). I honestly loved working there, I had the license to be a smart ass. I mean come on not everyone is the sharpest light bulb in the tool shed and some people are just plain rude. I remember one lady who was a frequent flyer(and about 400+ pounds) came in to make an order and requested three artichokes. Well we happened to be out of artichokes in which I had to reluctantly informed her. The news hit her like I just came out of the operating room to tell her her son died. With her eyes bulging she said to me, «What do you mean you’re out of artichokes??! It’s artichoke season!!» In which I replied, «Well we don’t grow em. It’s not like we have an artichoke plantation back there otherwise I’d go and pick you one.» She didn’t take kindly to that response to say the least. Some of my other favorite moments: Oakie white guy ordered a Negra Modelo but pronounced it «Negro Model-o.» In which I had to inform him«Sorry sir but I believe we stopped selling those about one hundred and fifty years ago after that whole civil war thingy.» Some lady came in one day looked at me, then looked at me, then the menu, then me, then the menu. Finally with a contorted and confused look on her face asked, «Do you make Pizza?» I entertained her request for a second by skimming the whole menu up and down, then with a look of disappointment told her«No I’m sorry… but I heard Pizza hut makes a great fish taco.» Personal favorites: I really love everything they made at this restaurant but my favorites would be the chicken nachos, fish taco, oyster taco and oyster burrito. Try the chips and salsa, they make a mean pico de gallo. I recommend eating the fish/oyster tacos there, taking them out they get soggy. They also have the best drink selection of any restaurant with specialty soda’s, imported beer, fresh-squeezed lemonade and orange juice and espresso’s. It’s like a mini Bev-Mo in there. Many great memories at this restaurant. It’s since been bought out by the landlord and they’ve made a ton of improvements with cleaning the place up. I know some of the same friendly hard working staff are there offering the same quality food. Try it out for yourselves! Tell them Carnitas sent you.

I use to come here a lot just for the fish tacos because they were that damn good. Then while at the gym a friend kept telling me about the oyster tacos. Every single time he’d tell me about how big the oysters were. So, one night me and few friends headed here to try it out and see what the big deal was. Damn, you should have seen the size of the oysters! HUGE… disappointment… they were the size of about a quarter and the only thing that made them look big was all the batter around it. But it did taste pretty good. LOL This place use to be pretty consistent on great food, good customer service, and cleanliness… but all has changed. It has taken a nose dive and I can’t figure out why. So, now I don’t come here as often.

Based on the previous reviews, I think I might be spoiled since I grew up in Los Angeles harbor where baja style fish tacos are all the rave and they outnumber McDonald’s like no other. So when I saw the 8 dollar price tag I could have gagged. I got the grilled version and my friend got a fried fish taco. To my surprise the fried version was great! Light, flaky, and it had great«tasteabily» where you want more after your first bite. Now on the other hand, the grilled one was slightly undercooked, bland and overall disappointing. For an 8 dollar price tag, I will look else where. Bottom line: I would have given this place 2 stars, but the fried fish taco saved them; I would not recommend this place to a friend.

I gotta tell you, I walked in there and in the middle of ordering, I wanted to walk out. The person taking our orders seemed like she didn’t want us there. I don’t know why, when the place was practically deserted, you would think they would welcome the business! We sat down and waited for our food, I noticed cobwebs that have formed between the chair and the table. CLEAR sign to me that no one comes here. I thought $ 8.something was a little pricey for fish &chips but I confess that it was worth every penny. Crunchy, flakey, seasoned red snapper in my mouth so fast that I bypassed the tartar sauce. And I’m a dip-everything-in-sauce kinda gal. If fish & chips are on the menu anywhere, that is what I order but not anymore. I’m afraid nothing else will compare and THAT is a gigantic statement coming from me. Freshly made lemonade is a must and the oysters. My God, the oysters. I am not a big fan of cooked oysters because from my experience, cooked oysters always ended up being too chewy to eat(quite the opposite) but these are definitely worth trying.

I’ve been in the STK for about 3 years now and today is the day i tried San Felipe Grill. I wouldn’t say this is the best place for fish tacos. I opened up the wrapper and I saw a fist full cabbage. I mean I like my greens or light greens in this case but dude this is called a FISH taco, where my fish at? There were 2 pieces of fish and they weren’t that crunchy. As if the 2 flour tortillas wasn’t enough there was a grip of mayonnaise on the cabbage. Oh yeah, the limes provided barely had any juice. Also man $ 3.95 for ONE fish taco? Ridiculous. We ain’t baller, we COLLEGE students. So my final take on this place? It’s located walking distance from Pacific, but I don’t think I would really suggest eating here. I would probably drive a little further and hit up Rubio’s. It’s cheap and the fish is crisp-ay. Although one good thing is at least I’m satiated after the fish taco. I guess 3 stars is a little too nice, but then again I’ve been known to be nice.
