Don’t be fooled by the way the building looks from the outside! This place totally reminds me of Mexico! Amazing service, friendly staff, I always stop in here when I’m in the area! Just an all around amazing hole in the wall that knows Mexican food! I wish I could give you 10 stars…

Place is Certified Bomb as F**k. Amazing burritos, i haul feed from penny newman a feed mill right down the road. I come here 1 – 2 times a week an evertime i come here i have to stop an get a burrito soda an coffee. Burrito has very good size unlike most places with the burritos getting thinner and thinner . Flavor for the asada burrito is on point. Sometimes tho when adding cheese makes the burrito seem cold bkus sometimes the dont heat the cheese. The chicken is also great. Havent tried a bfast burrito bkus i cant stray away from my asada burrito. Great place always in n out except around lunch time call in kus this place gets packed!!! Awesome food Awesome service Love me some Burrito C’mon!!!

Co-workers told me this was THE place in Stockton so took advantage of a rainy Friday to give it a shot. This is a workin’ mans joint — right at the Port of Stockton. Very busy even with the rain. It won’t win awards for the décor but that’s not the point. I saw six ladies busily taking orders, preparing food and getting the food out. I interacted with three and watched them as well with other customers — they were as friendly as it gets! Ordered three tacos to try my favorite meats — lengua, pastor and asada. The lengua was excellent. The pastor and asada were good but they both kinda reminded me(visually at least) of ground beef, but not quite. Still, good flavor. And by the way, these tacos are huge(by taqueria standards anyway). For $ 1.99 they were easily double your normal taco truck taco. So great value. The«hot sauce» was just the right heat — not too hot and not too mild. They didn’t do chips and salsa(no salsa bar) like so many taquerias so I normally take an additional star but won’t here. Don’t think they were quite 5 star tacos(meaning the best I ever had) — but really, really good — a solid 4 stars.

I’ve ordered food here about a dozen times. Now it’s time to rave about it. The super burritos are one of the best I’ve ever had, and I’ve had many. What makes it good is the flavor combination of the meat, beans, rice, sour cream, salsa. Each flavor comes out in each bite. Not to mention the burritos are very large. The tacos are very generous in size and taste as well. My only complaint is they close too early(5PM). When I go, I have sneak out of work a few minutes early just to get there in time. I can’t eat this at lunch because if I did, it would put me in a food coma and I’d be sleepy the rest of the afternoon. Also it’s a small family owned business and the people who prepare the food are super nice.

I always called it the little yellow house. I love stopping here for a chorizo burrito or nopales and eggs. They have a large variety of choices. It’s a small place with big flavor

I’ve been going here for years. Hands down the best burrito place in Stockton. Their Chile Colorado is my all time favorite. The price is cheap, the burritos are huge, the food is delicious. As much as I talk this place up, they should hire me as a hype man. I wish I can befriend the owner and help open up more restaurants in California. This is a true hole in the wall and the deliciousness needs to be shared. Come here for the food, not for the building. The inside is not made like a BJ’s or even a mcdonalds. So those who want to complain about the interior, don’t because you’re there for the food. If you dont like it, they will be happy to make your order to go.

This place was so good when it first opened now the do not even bother serving meat everytime I get a burrito recently its pure fat its so gross, so if you like chewy gristle then you’ll love this place but I prefer quality meat and it seem like they changed the sauce or maybe I just can’t get over the chewy fat that they call carne asada

Returned today to check out some of the other burrito meats with a friend. My friend had a carne asada super burrito and I had the highly recommended chile Colorado super burrito. Both were very tasty, though more highly salted than both of us would prefer.

The best Chile Colorado burritos in Stockton! They have so many options for meats. The food is very authentic(homemade) they have amazing Chile rellenos that are topped with pico due gallo. Chapala also served menudo on the weekends!

Kind of a out of the way for most people but an obviously a popular spot for port workers. The portions were fantastic and the selection of meats and entrees looked awesome. The layout of the counter is kind of like subway where you can see and dictate what you get in your order. The meats all looked colourful and delicious which made the first bite devastating because the only thing I tasted in my burrito was beans and onion. If there had been more flavour then this would have become a new favorite spot but looks like the only thing they have going for them is the portions :(

I love coming to Taqueria Chapala! Location: Out of the way for most people. Right off the Hwy 4. On the corner of Fresno Ave. & Washington St. I usually see a lot of the industrial employees that work nearby or truckers come around here. Be prepared to park on the street or in their unpaved parking lot. You can dine in or take out. Service: There’s usually a line in the morning for their breakfast burritos or during the lunch hour rush. However, their lines move pretty quickly considering everything is made to order. You’ll usually see the same friendly employees here. Food: I haven’t tried everything on the menu but so far I’ve enjoyed the following: Breakfast: bacon and egg breakfast burrito, chorizo breakfast burrito, They come in a good sized portion. I usually have to save half for later. Lunch/Dinner: I love their tacos! They’re huge! They aren’t shy about piling on the fillings either. I really like their chicken rancheros tacos and carne asada tacos. Check out the pics I posted on here. What I didn’t fall in love with: their ceviche. only because i think i make a better one at home ;p

What a bunch of bad previous reviews. Go eat here… period, end of subject. Especially if you like Mexican food. The previous reviewers sound like a bunch of pansies. You don’t go here for the scenery, you don’t go here for the service, you go here b/c the Mexican food is excellent!

A few things before I begin… The restaurant is incredibly ugly. It’s not in a very nice area. If I had run into it without seeing the review it had in the newspaper, I would have turned around and run screaming. We all know that the stickier and grittier the chairs are in a Mexican restaurant, the better the food will be. That means my expectations for the food here were extremely high. THEGIST: Grittier than a Cowboy movie bandit /Good carne asada /Chipotle style service SERVICEANDSETTING I went here before noon on a Wednesday for an early lunch. There was only a couple of people in line in front of us but the restaurant had a steady stream of people going in throughout my time here. My friend, who isn’t very well-versed in the ways of taqueria dining, had no idea how to order a burrito, but after some confusion, the girl at the counter was happy to help him out. I was playing Angry Birds. The inside of the restaurant is just as ugly as you’d think it’d be, though it’s actually not that dirty. I was hesitant to try their rest room but I found it to actually be quite clean. FOODANDVALUE Carne asada super burrito: The flavors were all excellent, but I have one complaint: the meat isn’t cooked fresh to order. That means this place is more like the ugly, edgy brother of Chipotle than the taquerias I’m used to. It was still delicious, with an excellent blend of flavors, but I wonder how it would’ve been if I didn’t get meat from a fresh batch. Prices are average for a Stocktonian taqueria, which means lunch is cheap. CONCLUSION It’s not in a good area, but the place gets a lot of traffic during the day time. I’d go here frequently the place were closer to me.
