Hands down THEBEST! Loyal customers for over 25 years! I’m talking about the food. the Chef and the service fantastic. I was nervous when the Original owners let the kids take over but they killed it! We drive an hour to just get the best it’s worth it! Just lock your truck doors only down side is the location. Wouldn’t be the same if they moved though. What we love is its original and home like feel. Takes me to being a kid when my parents first started bringing us all here

Xochimilco is one of my wife’s favorite restaurants and we come all the way from Elk Grove. It is not in the most pleasant neighborhood and I probably would not recommend coming here too late at night. That said, they recently gave the inside a much needed renovation and it doesn’t look so dated and it feels more comfy. The restaurant has always been clean when we have come. Service is generally pretty solid. My only complaint is they aren’t always on top of drink refills but I am slightly forgiving because I drink a lot of water. The food is always fresh and piping hot. The beans are as authentic as they come. This isn’t health food folks, but it sure tastes damn good. The salsa was a little watery for our tastes our previous couple of visits. We always end up with leftovers because the combo plates are huge and they’re a great bang for your buck. We will be back, but it definitely won’t be near closing time because we value our lives.

I had the burrito lunch special which came with rice and beans, covered in gravy. While you wait they give you chips and salsa, salsa is mediocre still edible the burrito was small but very tasty for about 7.40 I would definitely eat here again

The service is excellent. Wait staff is pleasant and tried to convince me to have the gravy by giving me a sample. However, the chicken burrito my Latina wife had, she described as the blandest Mexican food she had ever eaten. My sister had a chicken enchilada with big basket of tortillas. She said the food was quantity over quality. As a vegetarian, I ordered the bean burrito — which cost the same as my sister’s enchilada feast at the same price. It was 11 dollars for an excessive amount of flavorless refried beans. However, We also had an horchata and that was spot on.

I don’t know why this place is rated so low. This is one of the most authentic Mexican restaurants around! Their tortillas are incredible and it is so cheap! Located in a somewhat bad area, but just park close or take out if worried about it. It’s a great little place!

I don’t understand how my meal came out a complete disappointment despite the reviews. My husband and I came on the recommendation of neighbors who LOVE this place and who go no where else for Mexican in Stockton but here. I ordered the 2 tamales meal and when the plate came out, there was 1 tamale and a huge row of 1 inch pork cubes in sauce. The server mentioned something about the meat on top, but honestly, it was a broken tamale. It wasn’t what I expected; the open face tamale or the huge chunks of pork in it. I didn’t eat much of it. My husband’s chicken tasted a little off and our rice and beans weren’t enjoyable either. The flour tortillas tasted like raw flour. I looked around and they have a good clientele and everyone was grubbing away and looked like they were enjoying their meal. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing? I’m actually disappointed for being disappointed!

Born and raised Stocktonian I would say I have been coming here for years. My parents have been coming here for longer, since before I was born. It is a family favorite. We always have our favorite plate that we order ALLTHETIME! Beef Quesadilla is the name. Huge portions, the beans are cheesy and pair well with the homemade flour tortillas. I have tried the tacos and the chimichangas here but I always go back to the quesadilla. The beef is covered in a red sauce gravy. I dont care too much for the rice but the beans are a thumbs up. There has recently been remodeling which opens and brightens up the place. This place is located in the ghetto so make sure you do not park too far from the restaurant.

ROACHESROACHESROACHES!!! Ive eatin here numerous times! I thought it was pretty good. I heard of an infestation but never payed any attention to it because the food was great. Until one day i decided to dine in and after sitting down and getting my food, a caca roach decided to run across my table, i was so disgusted I picked up my car keys and walked straight out. Its very sad to say that I will NEVERBEEATINGHEREAGAIN… Atleast until they call CLARK!!! Sorry for the people that love this place. I loved it too until I had the experience with the Roach!

The food here is tasty, and very fulfilling. The parking during the day is tough, and it is in downtown(hold your purse), but it is worth it. I really enjoy all the menu items, and I have yet to finish my plate, and I have a big appetite. A regular here.

It doesn’t look like much from the outside, but definitely one of Stockton’s hidden jewel. Great Mexican food and you can tell it’s family owned and ran the same way, great service. Love the fact you can order take out as well since it is small inside and can get pretty packed. Will always recommend as the best Mexican restaurant(food wise) in town.

Other than family, Xochimilco Café is the only reason to come to Stockton. For $ 15.25 I ordered the Xochimilco Café Special that comes with 1 taco, 1 enchilada, steak ranchero, and 1 chile relleno. Plus the plate comes with beans and rice. It’s enough to feed a family of four with ease. I’m not Mexican but if I was this is what I think my family would make for family gatherings. I had red sauce coming out of me by the time I was done eating. Everything on the plate was great. Unless you live there you probably don’t visit Stockton often, but when you do give Xochimilco Café a shot.

This place is eh… it sucks the food isn’t good. I got the Chicken taco and the chicken is very hard and not good. Also the food is really greasy and has a lot of oil. I wouldn’t eat there again. But the service was good but the food really sucks.

Ordered No.7 Combo plate to go. It came with 1 beef taco, 1 beef enchilada(normally comes with cheese enchilada but i made substitution for beef; no extra charge), re-fried beans, rice, flour tortillas, a small cup of salasa, a tiny bag of tortilla chips. With tax, $ 11.17 The salsa was extremely watered down. You dip the chip in it and it comes back up clean; dripping water. The chips were very hard in texture. The large taco shell was nicely crisp; had a nice texture to it, and their was alot of meat in it, along with lettuce, 2 slices of tomatoes, and cheese. The meat was cubed, hard, and dry. The lettuce was fresh, as was the tomato. The enchilada was covered in familiar orange /rust colored gravy. There was alot of meat in it. Again, same meat as above. Cubed, hard, and dry. The beans were bland in taste. Needed seasoning and salt. The rice was bland in taste. Needed seasoning and salt.

Xochi’s is definitely a «hole in the wall» place, but they make some of the best central Mexican food you’ll find in Stockton. Certainly waaay better than Cancun(barf) and Nena’s(double barf). I’ve been coming here throughout the years since I was a little kid with various family members, and even got my picky Mexican boyfriend to agree to eat here– and he enjoys it. Their beef is tender and not fried like you’ll find at some places, making for excellent enchiladas and tacos. Their salsa rojo is really good, especially paired with their homemade tortillas, which are some of the best I’ve had besides my own grandmothers. Don’t let the exterior of the restaurant fool you– the food is great. I can vouch for that!

Thanks for the updating of this old Stockton icon. The Big X. I think they could have done more, but it’s a vast improvement. We enjoyed a meal here recently. Service was good although the food was a bit slow to arrive. I had a chicken taco… which was totally delicious. the beans and rice were fine and the tortillas were hot. Parking is not always easy in the daytime so we parked in the lot around the block. I’m honestly not sure we’ll be back here anytime soon. but The Big X is more nostalgic to me than anything else.

3-Stars only because of my years of eating here. The last time I ate here was 2 ½yrs ago before this visit. Again, I am predictable at most Mexican restaurants, a basic beef and cheese burrito dinner wit h gravy and no salad. There were two tables eating when we walked in and sat at our table. It took 10minutes for the waitress to come to our table. Thank goodness we knew what we wanted or who knows how long it would have taken to come back. As it was, we didn’t get our drinks until our meals arrived. (1) gravy was real watery(2) rice was kind of bland and dry(3) the tortillas we got with our meals were old and cold. I know, just the sound of it gave me heartburn, as did the food. I suffered for about 12hours. The decorum was updated, but not in a way that would bring out the best of the restaurant.

Bumping up to four stars… 3 stars for food, add one star for the restaurants effort making improvements to the interior and for increasing food portion size in relation to the price. The«Big X» has struggled the last few years trying to be a viable Mexican restaurant in downtown Stockton. As other Unilocalers have stated, the place needed a facelift, the prices had gone up and the portion size was small. They painted and took out the booths. All tables now. Looks a bit fresher and more open. Yes, the food is on the expensive side(for Mexican food) but now the portions are large. I ordered a three item meal tonight…chicken taco and burrito and a chili relleno… and it comes with chili Colorado and chile Verde. Including a soda my tab was $ 19…but…I had plenty left over for another meal. Taco packed with chunks of chicken. Large scoops of rice and beans! And… house-made flour tortillas. One small complaint… the relleno had a huge amount of batter around a very small chili. That could be improved upon. I hope they keep improving. They are headed in the right direction. The place was packed for a Sunday evening!
