Sad to say that they appear to be closed. New establishment coming soon I guess. So sad. I will miss my hot pot and owners of Shabu!

I love this place! I come here for lunch a couple days a week. Their sushi is fresh and delicious with good portions. For the lunch specials, you get sushi options with salad and miso or hot and sour soup. They have good fried rice and scallion pancakes, too. The service is A+, and the staff is friendly! Highly recommended!

Want on a Saturday even. Was dead. Even then service was slow with water and such. Nice people who work there but I can imagine if it was busy what kind of nightmare it could be. The sushi was good for AYCE. The eel was cold but otherwise the rest was okay. The hot pot broths were ok. The sichuan could be more numbing and the tomato beef was flavorful but didn’t quite hit the mark. I knew to stay away from the house broth. Maybe I will try the Tom yum and tonkotsu broth next time. The three different beef choices were great. The seafood quality was ok. I’d go back hungrier and go for more protein next time.

This place continue to be my favorite sushi place! The service improved recently, and now the place is just great all around! They have the best quality of sushi and sashimi– fresh fish and no short cuts! Highly recommended!

Went here for dinner the other night with my husband and enjoyed our dinner, but there were some flaws. We had a combo hot pot with ribeye and lamb and it was really delish. We had two different broths, the house broth and the spicy. The spicy was VERY spicy, so beware if you only like a bit spicy. The house broth was very bland first when it came, but they brought garlic and scallions which I added in and I let my veggies boil in the hot pot for the majority of the time, so it started to add some flavor. I also took one of the chilies from the spicy broth and added to the house broth. Once that was all done we were able to have a decent house broth and a super spicy broth, which was just what my husband wanted. We had ordered some dumplings to start off the meal. They arrived after all the hotpot fixings were on the table(as well as the meat) and they were cold. When I say cold I don’t mean that they were luke warm… they were actually cold cold. It was quite disappointing because it took our broth a good 15 – 20 minutes to heat up(there was something wrong with the hot plate) so we would have very much enjoyed being able to munch on the dumplings while waiting. The meat and veggies were all good quality and the quantity was just right. The price was also very fair for what we got, but due to the broth, the dumplings and the timing I can’t give more than 3 stars. We will be back though to give it another shot :)

Not sure how they got four stars but the food there was just so so. We had the hotspot, which has little choices of food selection. The meat is kinda hard to chew and the broth was just fine. It’s not bad just a not so impressive experience.

Definitely wanted to make a quick update on our later experiences here at Shabu Sai. Since my first review back in August of 2014, we have been here multiple times. And I feel that with each time we do, the service gets a little worse and with each time, I feel a bit more unwelcomed. There may be some skimping of food ordered, missing an order of salmon for hotpot and whatnot. But hopefully the next time we do come again, we’ll feel a bit more welcomed because for what we are paying, I sort of want to be treated like I’m wanted there.

1 star for the following: 1. the shabu meat is way to thin. I am up for thin, but these things were breaking apart the second I picked it up. 2. the meat is NOT fresh. The beef was turning brown on the edges. Why would they serve a meat like that. 3. I went there at 11:30am, ordered the LUNCH Beef Shabu. I was charged for DINNER beef. When calling them out on it, their response was«I am sorry, I made the mistake and gave you dinner one instead.» Unfortunately, my buddy and I didn’t even finish the meal because it was so bad. In the end we just paid the extra $ 10 and left. If they took off the $ 3 extra charge for the special broth, I would’ve been fine with it. 4. the vegetables were half rotten. I have no idea why they would serve such things. I just didn’t eat it. Skip this place. a tip to the business: If you made the mistake and confirmed it, don’t make the customer pay for it.

This place is soooooo bad! Absolutely terrible. I am a hotpot junkie and constantly crave hotpot. I’ve heard good things about this restaurant and I decided to give it a chance.(I was very skeptical and hesitant. It took a lot of convincing) We had two different broths, the house pork broth and I ordered the kimchi. The broth is disgustingly bland. It tasted like someone took water and put a cube of chicken boullion inside. For the kimchee, they used the same base. So it also tasted like water with chicken boullion, but with hot sauce inside as well. I’m not kidding. This broth tasted like spicy water. So unappetizing. The broth is really important. This is where your meats and vegetables get cooked in. If the base is gross, you’re doomed from the start. The staff was very inattentive. After bringing the bbq sauce and garlic to the table, they also brought out the raw foods as well. With no soy sauce. We had to ask two times for the soy sauce to make our sauce. Ridiculous. Also, what kind of hotpot buffet charges for udon? Why isn’t udon already on the menu? I don’t get it. If you want to come here for a good hotpot experience, stay away. If you want to cook your food in spicy water with bland watered down disgusting garnishes, help yourself. The only good thing about the place is the garlic that comes with the garnishes. They sauté the garlic which gives it a nice kick. But that’s all. No Bueno. Won’t be back. I regret even giving them the money for the first visit.

I’d like to give this place a better review, especially since I’ve been here maybe 4 or 5 times… BUTTTTTT I can’t since there are some major flaws with this restaurant. When you walk in it is a nice little place with a sushi bar and hot pot booths and tables. Pretty nice. My boyfriend and I plus our two friends sat down in a booth and ordered the buffet and checked off 3 boneless short rib plates because we all wanted to eat some. The woman came back with one. I thought there would be more but none ever came. Highly disappointed with that because ITIS A BUFFETAFTERALL. Their sauce they use to dip the hot pot is also very watery with little to no flavor. 4 out of the 5 times we went we got that watery sauce and the 5th time she gave us a completely different sauce to the ones we got the last times. Now I’ve been to many hot pot places, and watery sauce with no flavor isn’t supposed to be part of the meal. Especially since thats what you’re going to be tasting!!! Their broths are also over priced and flavorless. I got the Kimchi and it tasted like spicy water. Now — Their sushi. It’s a-ok. The only problems I have is the fact that we were done with the hot pot and then it took another 10 minutes of us just sitting there waiting for the sushi to come. WTF? And it’s not like they were busy that day either. I tried looking over to see if the chef was even doing anything and the owner seemed to get pissed off about that. Their Unagi is really bad and has a lot of little bones in it. And I’m not talking about the normal few tiny tiny bones. Theres like choke-on-fish-bones bones in there. Not okay as well. And the last point I have to make is when we were trying to go eat on Valentines Day, which was a horrible snowy day, but we wanted to go out anyways. I called the place for a reservation and they said they’ll stay open for us. It was about 8:45pm. We took like 20 min to get there because of road conditions, and about 1 min away from the restaurant the lady calls me and says«oh you called for the reserve table right? yeah we’re closed now. the snow is bad and I want to go home sorry» and I tell her that we are literally driving into the parking lot but she sticks to her side and says they won’t let us eat there. That made me really mad. If you want to refuse customers because of weather, whatever. But don’t screw someone over by telling them to come there, and then just tell them it’s closed. WTF. But overall, its basic sushi and hotpot. Nothing special but if you’re hungry as a Mofo and want to fill yourself up with food, it’s a good place to go. Just know that they’ll charge you 1.25 per piece of sushi you leave, so get some sushi and sashimi they add a lot of rice.

Service: straight up horrible. Would not go back to this place. Went in for shabu and sushi buffet. We ordered our food off from checking off of a menu and handed to the waitress. Got the orders messed up. The waitress brought food from another to ours; asking our table if we ordered this sushi platter. Bottom line, they didn’t know what they were doing. Took at least half an hour to bring our sliced meat for shabu. I mean, cmon, its sliced meat. How much time do you need to bring that out from the kitchen ?! We had to remind the waitress multiple times that we are missing our food. I think there is a reason for this establishment to bring out food slowly. As a consumer, you are paying a fixed price for this buffet. The buffet establishment doesn’t want you to eat a lot. The slower that you eat, the less you’ll eat, because the brain requires some time to tell you that you’re full. If they brought out food quickly(which they should have), we would be consuming more of their food; they would be losing profits. That’s just a bad business practice; the consumer isn’t that stupid. Food: average. Good thing it didn’t suck, otherwise i would have given a one star.

My friend made a reservation for this establishment saturda night at 8PM. The original reservation was for 9, then a few joined last minute. Three of my friends and I got there around 7:40. We where greeted and was told that it’s going to be a few minutes. I told the hostess in Cantonese that we are going to be a group of 14 instead of 9, and that we didn’t mind if the tables where split up. By 8:10 our group was all here standing and still waiting for a table. In between all the waiting if seen two tables leave, and seated immediately. One of the group sat down behind one of the larger booth to wait, and took it as soon it was vacant and before they where directed by the host. We see a 4 top that was vacant for a good 10 minutes. Finally the group was seated by 8:20, but we couldn’t seat the whole table. So the larger group that was doing the buffet sat at the larger table, and the 4(including me) that was ordering was from the regular menu sat at the empty 4 top. Our waiter came up to us and asked we wanted anything to drink and we water for now and a few minutes to decide. Waited 10 minutes for our waiter to come back, only to see him walk out the door to do a delivery. We sat unattended for another 10 – 15 minutes unattended. My friends that was sitting at the larger table was getting served, and seen the waiter to walk pass us numerous time without even saying a word to us. By the time we saw our waiter come back from the delivery two of the big tables that was seated before us got food served numerous times before my group was. Eventually our waiter came back and he walk back behind the counter without even a glance at us. We had to raise our hand to get his attention. Mind you the restaurant size is rather small, and it was ¾ full. Our order was finally put in by 8:40. Few minutes past by, and two of my friends order had a salad and soup included with their meals, and only the salad came out. Finished the salad, and thought the soup would come next, but the entrée came out instead. We thought we must of mistaken so we asked the waiter if soup AND salad was included. He said yes, and had to inform him that we didnt recieve it. My friend ordered the Chirashi, and a tuna hand roll to share with his girlfriend. She said that the hand roll was rolled with plain white rice instead of sushi rice, while his Chirashi was made with the sushi rice. The menu didn’t say the roll was made with sushi rice or not, but its common sense it would be because the both dish has raw fish and would use the vinigery sushi to counter balance the rawness of the fish, but no. Not in this case. Inconsistent. Finally it came down to the check. I would of thought they might of comped something for the service that we received. Nope. They expected full payment. After what we been through I felt it was very unfair. My friend spoke up about the service. 5 minutes flew by and she comped the 4 beers. We still tipped. It was all our first time visiting this restaurant. We came here because we herd good things from other people. We came to the conclusion that we will not be doing business anytime soon after what we had to go through. Clearly there was communcation issues that night and a lack of awarness. Waiter leaving the restaurant without telling a superior that he was leaving the building AND a table that was not served yet. None of the employees that passed by us, or that was standing behind the counter notice a table with only 4 cups of water with no food and didn’t bother to double check? It only takes a few seconds of their time to make sure that the paying customer is getting some form of attention. Was it too much to ask for? 1 star because the food was decent. Had to take off 4 star because the way they handled our dinner service was unacceptable, and the lack of communication left us waiting for an extended period of time unattended.

I wandered here with friends all the way from Cambridge because I’ve heard great things. Color me slightly apprehensive for any place that markets itself as an «Asian Bistro» and has sushi, Chinese, and Japanese on the menu. However, it does what it’s supposed to be well — AYCE hot pot and sushi. I’ve had a lot of AYCE hot pot but their meats rival some of the best in Chinatown and at a better price point. The menu is simple(kinda) — there’s sushi/sashimi on one side and hot pot on the other and the sheet is just a small checklist. They have the basic essentials for both and I can keep ordering to my heart’s content. :) You get to choose from 4 – 5 different soup bases — they halve the pots in case you’re with a friend who can’t eat spicy foods. Service was great and the space is extremely clean and modern. Total of $ 40/person. We came at 1pm and it was moderately full and stayed for almost 3 hours(ha) — but they were great! Absolutely a recommendation for all my friends.

Wow wow wow!!! Can’t believe I lived less than 2 miles away from such a fabulous restaurant and have neglected to visit all this time. Shabu is absolutely delicious. A little confusing until someone told us there is no wrong way to do it! Plan to return to try the sushi but I don’t know if I can get away from the shabu. Especially in this cold weather!!!

We were so pleased to find a restaurant serving this type of cuisine which did not require a trip to Boston or Cambridge! My husband and I are big shabu fans and usually dine at Kaze at least once per month in the winter. When we heard about Shabu Sai(through Unilocal,of course) we were excited to try a shabu restaurant that was closer to our home and offered free parking. We were not disappointed. The food was as good as our Boston restaurant and I appreciated the different vegetables offered — including squash and a different type of mushroom — than Kaze. Service was quick and — per this style of cooking — the prices were quite reasonable. The best part? A surprise complimentary crème brûlée for dessert. We’ll definitely be back.

Let me just start out by saying: I workout – or atleast I try to 4 times a week. And it’s not for the girls, the six pack, or sexy chiseled face – it’s solely for the purpose of eating at this place! The word«excellent» would be undermining the godliness of this restaurant experience. Shabu Sai is absolutely phenomenal. I don’t know of a better place to devour my two favorite food groups: hot pot AND sushi. Might I add, this is coming from a person that has eaten at your Minados and Hot Pot Buffets of the world. Not to undermine those places because I think those places are great too but Shabu Sai is simply on another level. I hope half of the Pacific Ocean and the farms of the world will forgive me for the amount of food that I have consumed from their ecosystem at this place. Yes, that’s right, Shabu Sai is a BUFFET! Not only does Shabu Sai have elegant quality food fit to be served at the Ritz Carlton but you can have as much of it as you want during your visit! Heaven? Yes, I found it! Gluttony? Yes, I have sinned. In short. If you haven’t tried Shabu Sai, you haven’t splurged. Do yourself and your family/friends/uncles/aunts a favor and go eat at Shabu Sai.
