Isaac’s Moving & Storage

Like most people, I only write a review when I’m dissatisfied. In this case it’s the excellent experience I had with Isaac’s movers which motivates me to spread the word. We just bought a house and were on a very tight budget but we didn’t want any surprises.
We asked isaac’s for an estimate, so they sent over a representative who gave us a very reasonable price. We called the central office to confirm that we could count on this amount. Diana walked us through the entire estimate and explained to us how everything would work. The day of the move the movers were on time, had been briefed about the different objects we wanted handled carefully, and worked quickly. They were polite and professional. The next day they came back with a bigger team for the big furniture and the additional members of the team were just as professional. We could tell that Isaac’s selects and trains their movers with a great deal of attention.
Isaac’s respected the estimate and we are in our new house with all of our belongings in place and on time.
I could not have asked for a smoother and more transparent transaction with a moving company. I would use them again in a heartbeat.

We just used Isaac’s for downsize move from Newton to Boston. We used their full services (they packed for us). We also had 2 stops, one at our apt and another at a nearby storage unit. Our team was lead by Tom. They were wonderful. We thought they were professional, smart and efficient. Highly recommend using them for a local move.

The company moved my belongings from Boston to Columbia, MD. They disassembled our furniture, including two beds and a crib but upon arrival none of the parts required to reassemble the furniture arrived. We now have lots of useless pieces of wood that will be very expensive to replace.

Isaacs Moving & Storage may be the single worst moving company EVER. We spent over $ 6000 for moving and another nearly $ 500 for full replacement value insurance. They managed to break four items and the items they broke were very valuable. We thought it would be easy to process a claim with them and their insurance company Anthem (I mean that IS what they promised when they sold us the insurance), but we have been strung out to dry and have spent the past 12 months fighting through arbitration to be paid the replacement value for the four items they destroyed. There’s STILL no end in sight.
AVOID ISAACS AT ALL COST! Pick any other company and you’ll be better off than you would be with these liars, cheaters, and thieves. They should be absolutely embarrassed to call themselves a «trusted» company. What a joke!
They claim our broken items were «old» and have little to no value. Yes… the fact that they are old is absolutely true. Antiques are indeed, old. Each of the broken items was collected in far away lands — South Africa, Indonesia, and Greece. Isaacs valued replacement costs based on information they found on eBay. They might as well have used
. No disrespect to Wal-​Mart, but that seems about the only type of value Isaacs seems to understand. Everything MUST be replaceable online, right? No regard at all is given to the true value of rare and cultured artifacts. What a shame to have to write this review.
MAY 2015 UPDATE
After nearly 18 months of fighting with Isaac’s Moving & Storage, our arbitration has drawn to a close. I’m happy to report that despite all of the misrepresentations placed in front of the judge, Isaac’s has lost. They are being held fully responsible for all of the damage they caused. We’ve just received our settlement award today.
A word to anyone who has issues with a moving company trying to shirk their responsibilities to consumers… fight the good fight. I realize an 18-​month arbitration process might seem daunting, but that’s what every moving company is counting on — your fear that it’s just not worth the time and energy. But trust me… if you are right, justice finds a way to prevail.

I just did a move from Boston to NJ. After checking all the Unilocal reviews, I decided to give Issac’s a try 1.5 months before my move.
So I talked to Ms. Martha Lopez for a couple of times. She was very helpful on all the questions I had with her (This is the first time I did long distance move. Several years ago, I moved from LA to Boston with only several suicases after selling all the furnitures, so I actually never used any movers to do long distance move).
On the move day, the movers suppose to come to pick up around 8:30 and my phone rang exactly at 8:29 am.
Bryan and his coworker came to my apartment and quickly wrapped up everything and put onto the truck. The most word I heard from Bryan was: Not a problem.
and on the second day, my new landlord reserved elevator for me from 11 am to 3 pm. and Bryan arrived exactly at 11:00 (I actually saw his truck in my new community at 10:58)
this is absolutely amazing.
and of course, unloading was also smooth and simple.
This is definitely the best and most stress free moving experience I have ever had.
Thanks Issac’s and next time, I definitely will consider Issac’s again.

Had Isaac’s out for an estimate, the adjuster said 12k lbs of stuff and quoted a price. Other movers quoted for much more weight. when Isaac’s asked me why we were not hiring them, I told them about the weight issue. They sent out another appraiser, he said 15klbs and quoted a price, BUT the price did not include wrapping glass, paintings, or using any wardrobe boxes. I asked them for a static/​capped price since I didn’t want any surprises. After more conversations they provided me with a capped price… but I was still going to be charged for wardrobe boxes, paintings etc. That isn’t a capped price at all actually. I wanted to hire them because their staff was more than helpful, friendly and mostly responsive. But the main problem is with me asking for a capped price and them not giving it to me. I eventually found a mover who was willing to cap the price and at a savings of several hundred dollars, and this other mover gave me free wardrobe boxes, art boxes, mattress pads, anything I needed, no extra charge, and once again the price was still hundreds less than Isaac’s (on a move of about 5,000 dollars price). I saved a bundle on the other mover. But my basic issue with Isaac’s is that I feel they weren’t listening to me, I asked for a capped price, they come back with the same pricing as before. It was a waste of my time and theirs.

Late last fall we moved from the south shore to Martha’s Vineyard and Isaac’s was superb! All of my interactions with the staff from the initial visit with Rob to the moving crew of three very efficient, pleasant, and thorough guys to the storage person were positive. Responses were prompt and always helpful. I was so impressed as they had to do some last minute packing for us and the entire move, ferries and all, were completed in one day. We also had to sort through some items which they stored for us. I have recommended Isaac’s to others and in fact our daughter just made a local move and again Isaac’s was great.

I just moved from Boston to Austin, and my experience with Isaac’s was great! I worked with Nicole Rezende, who promptly sent me a quote after a quick phone call. The quote was accurate, and Nicole was always available (or quick to return a call) whenever moving panic would hit and I had a random question. She also clued me in to how to obtain parking permits for the moving truck, which is something I never would have thought to do.
I purchased boxes and tape from Isaac’s, which they had a driver drop off and bring up to my third floor walk up in the North End. The driver called to give me a 30 minute heads up, so I didn’t have to take a day off from work to sit around and wait for him to get there, which I appreciated.
My move was scheduled for a Monday, and I received a call from Isaac’s the Friday before to confirm the date and let me know my window was between 7−9am. At 7am Monday, the driver of the truck called to let me know they were about 30 minutes away. The crew of three guys packed my one bedroom apartment into a truck in about two hours– this included disassembling my bed, wrapping other furniture in blankets, and packing a few other items I did not have boxes for (TV, large mirror, art).
There was a slight gap between when my items were picked up and when I was able to move into my new apartment, and Isaac’s was able to hold onto my stuff for an additional charge. I was told my items would be delivered between ⁹⁄₁ and ⁹⁄₅. Knowing ⁹⁄₁ was a holiday, I called Nicole the Friday before for an update on the ETA of my belongings (this is really the only reason I am giving 4 instead of 5 stars, because I do wish they had been more proactive in reaching out to me to provide this information), and was told they would be arriving on either ⁹⁄₂ or 9/​3, and that the driver would let me know 24 – 48 hours ahead of time. I received a text message on ⁹⁄₁ from the driver saying they’d be there on ⁹⁄₂ between 8 and 10am.
Sure enough, they arrived within that window, all of my belongings still there and intact, and they moved everything into my new apartment in under two hours.
When I decided to move, I was completely clueless when it came to hiring movers, and the quotes came in all over the place– Isaac’s was definitely on the higher end of the spectrum in terms of price, but there’s so much to stress about when planning a long distance move, making sure all your stuff makes it there in one piece shouldn’t be the thing keeping you up at night!
I would absolutely hire Isaac’s again if I ever do another long distance move.

My name is George and I have used Isac’s moving 5 times in the past to move me and my girlfriend from old apartments to our new ones. There office is amazing to work with as well as there prices are great. They have never needed more than 4 hours to move me from one address to another. they have never broken or damaged anything. The second time I moved with them it was in a rush situation and they packed my entire house including the kitchen the closets the basement I did nothing other than let them in to the old address and the new address. I just bough a new home and I am using Isac’s again next month to move me and my girlfriend into my new home. I cant give this company any higher praise than 5 stars if I could I would they are the best in there business hands down. Thank you Isac’s and Nicole for everything you have done in the past and will do in the future for me.

They broke several items, repaired them and them also broke two antique chairs, one of which they said was already damaged. I grudgingly accepted that and they said they would pay to repair the second chair. They haven’t even sent a deposit to the repair shop which will not fix the chair until they get a deposit from Isaacs. I have communicated with Isaacs, they said they would send the money in, to my knowledge they have not.
I did sign a release, under the assumption that they would make good on their word and pay for the chair.
I am still waiting for them to make good on their word.
Do not use them, they do not keep their word and try to weasel out of their responsibilities.

The estimator spent 2 hours, mostly talking. He provided only a verbal estimate of weight, but the actual quote was to be complied by someone else and sent the next day. The quote never arrived, but from other movers we realized that he had underestimated the weight by almost half. We feel like we dodged a bullet.***The General Manager responded to this review with promises to upgrade training & response time. He also invited us to attend a meeting in which our concerns would be addressed. He showed a sincere interest in improving his company and the quality of services.

I’ve moved every 2 – 3 years for the past 15years and Isaac’s movers (especially their Foreman, Tom) was the most efficient. I’ve used them the past 3 moves and it has been seamless and pleasant They were on time, quickly assessed what needed to be packed, and didn’t waste anytime standing around or chit chatting. They were professional and quick. and most importantly careful with our stuff. In fact, we had a sofa that even the delivery guys from the store couldn’t bring it up the stairs and had to use the back deck. but Tom & his guys, were able to figure out how to maneuver it around the railings… and it didn’t take them a long time… very impressive work!
We are very experienced movers and organized and it was clear that they were too. I’m not sure how any mover would be if they had to pack everything for the owners, but that being said… if you’re somewhat attentive to taking care of your fragile items and packing some things ahead of time, then I think you’d be happy with Isaac’s. And for the price… they are huge in value.

We couldn’t be happier with Isaac’s! We shopped around with the local companies, and also on craigslist. We went with Isaac’s because of the amazing customer service beforehand. Nicole answered my 1,000 questions and put my mind at ease with us moving in to a brand new home. I was highly worried about a moving company doing damage to the walls, hardwood floors, etc. They put moving blankets down on all of the floors & a rubberized mat over the stairwell. There were zero dings, and they were FAST as could be! 5 hours from arrival to the time they left, including an hour of travel time. We moved from a 2 bedroom apartment to a 3 bedroom house. Tom, Joey & Lopez were an A+++ team! Thank you SO much for making our moving experience as painless as possible.

After reading about Isaac’s on Unilocal and Angie’s List, I felt I was making the right decision, and man was I right. I got 4 estimates for my move, and Isaac’s wasn’t the cheapest, but it seemed to be the most reasonable for what I was looking for. It was also the most up-​front, and I had a feeling that my salesperson wasn’t trying to get one over on me; rather, he took the time to go over how I would be charged and what to look for, as well as ways to keep the cost down. He showed me why my Calligaris glass dining table would need to be crated in order to be insured — an added expense, sure — but well worth it considering the cost of the table.
When the crew showed up (on-​time, which is always a positive), they had me sign the moving documents. Before I knew it, the crew was wrapping my furniture — that’s when I really knew I was in good shape. I had no idea what kind of expertise is involved with moving! I later learned that they have a training facility at their place in Stoughton, and their movers train in a model apartment that they built just for the movers. This strikes me as unusual. I have a feeling they’re the only ones with this? I’m no moving professional, but that seems pretty cool.
In the end, everything was moved up 3 flights of stairs to my new place in Charlestown, and there were no scratches or nicks inside the stairwell. The property manager was there while they were moving, and he seemed all kinds of nervous when I showed up, as if he was expecting a bunch of knuckleheads to show up as the movers. as soon as he saw the Isaac truck, he was all like «thank god!» which seemed another positive sign.
In the end, there was only 1 thing damaged — which I feel I need to come completely clean about. I had a tall floor fan that I had packed with towels inside a box I got from the store. When I unpacked it, the base had broken off. I don’t even know why I called Isaac’s about it because it wasn’t that big of a deal. However, Isaac’s acted like it was, so I took the bait. I spoke to Jon Dalzell, who seems to run the customer service department, and I explained the situation to him. I was then informed that it wouldn’t be covered through the insurance I bought because I packed it. At first I was a little dismayed, but it does make sense I suppose. How are they supposed to insure stuff you pack? Anyway, Jon was really nice about it and offered me a small compensation for the hassle, which was really above and beyond. He could have been like, «sorry man, you packed your fan with towels — what did you expect?» but he didn’t.
Anyway, in sum, this was a great experience. I hadn’t moved in 7 years, and I’m just finishing up getting my stuff organized in my new place, and the more I look around at all my furniture and how it all got up here on the 4^th floor, it makes me very thankful that I picked Isaac’s. They definitely know what they’re doing.

Actually I WAS a real customer and there’s no reason calling you after this. You’ve done a poor job, I complained, you did nothing, I wrote a review here, that’s the end. Will never use this company again.

Mover’s were timely, polite, and efficient. The company was also easy to work with and very flexible when I had to post-​pone my move to the next day, which was a Saturday, during the RedSox parade. I would definitely use them again and recommend.

Regarding Jon’s comments. It was a review on Angie’s list that he responded to. Ask me to take it off. I did, and told him there was an additional review on Unilocal.
He refused to work with me after we refused to pay the over charge.
There is no extortion. I said it then, and I feel the same way now. I do NOT want Isaac’s employees in my house, they tried to steal my property until I caught them. After reading all the reviews regarding the repair of damaged items. I wanted to be paid for damages and proceed to get repairs done on my own. I contacted him and called him when this whole theft thing started. He did not approach me until he read my review on Angie’s list.
I recommend you sell everything, and start again. It is much more fun to buy new furniture, than have people try to steal your property, pack it haphazardly, and then over charge. Plus the unpacking the truck with people who had no idea what they were suppose to do.

After 2 years in Boston, my boyfriend and I were (finally!) moving back to NYC. We had a complicated move for a couple of reasons:
1. Most of the living room furniture and random kitchen items were going to my bf’s brother
2. We didn’t have an apartment in NYC yet
To handle this, we set up a storage unit for everything. Isaac’s team also showed up with two different color labels, one for us and the other for the bf’s brother.
They arrived early (about half an hour) and set to work packing up our big items. All furniture and heavy/​random-​sized items were wrapped in blankets, then taped and labeled. They were efficient, hardworking, and generally cool people. The guy leading the charge made sure that he properly recorded each item and matched it up to the number on his list. They were done in just under 3 hours (which I have to admit, I found impressive. While we were only in a 1 bedroom, we had jam-​packed the place).
We didn’t know when we’d secure a place in NY so we set it up that we would give them a week’s notice for the move from the storage place to our new apartment. There were no issues with delivery; while they did show up early (again), they didn’t give us any grief and just found somewhere to hang out. They also unpacked us in under 2 hours (which again, I found impressive) and were patient while we put padding on the bottom of each piece of furniture before they put it down (since our new apartment has wood floors).
The bf’s brother’s move seemed to go smoothly as well. There was no mix up of any items or things missing.
Despite the bad reviews I’m seeing on their Unilocal page, I’d recommend them. Given our situation, the price was great and the service solid.

To begin, in the past 7 years I have lived in 7 different places so I have quite a bit of experience with this whole moving thing. I have done it all: UHauls with college buddies, shady craigslist vans, and a couple of «professional» moving companies. So when I graduated MIT Sloan and needed to move half my stuff to NYC to my new apartment and the hand-​me-​downs to my little brother’s new apartment in Allston, I curled up into the fetal position dreading what I was about to endure.
Then I found Isaac’s. Who can remember if it was the bright blue refrigerator magnet in the shape of a truck on my friend’s kitchen or his tales of moving heroism that prompted me to make that first call but we can let the historians work that out later. I spoke with Laura telling her all my moving woes and within a few moments my dread was gone, replaced with a sense of hope and optimism similar to finding a $ 20 bill in an old jacket.
Laura set me up with everything I needed for the complicated move, gave me my quote, and scheduled the truck for pick-​up. I was also able to visit their warehouse in Stoughton to buy some boxes and tape but unless you can combine it with an Ikea run (like I did), the drive out there isn’t really worth it. Maybe they can work something out where they deliver packing supplies a few days before the move?
Moving day arrives after a caffeine fueled, packing filled all-​nighter. We had run out of boxes and tape sometime around 3am, I had no idea how to pack my 42′ LCD TV, and I owned way more fragile glass frames/​shelves then I thought I did. I’m screwed, with the movers due in 15 minutes what am I going to… phone rings.
It’s Anthony, the crew leader for my move letting me know that they are pulling into the loading dock of my building. Huh? Movers showing up early? That never happens… As I was trying to wrap my head around that I quickly ran downstairs to explain to Anthony my packing woes.
«Do you guys have extra boxes and tape? I ran out»
«Yep, not a problem. We’ve got everything including the wardrobe boxes that didn’t fit in your car when you picked up the rest of the supplies»
«I bet it’s 10x the price, right?»
«Nope, same price you paid last week»
«I didn’t know how to pack my large fragile items like the TV and glass frames, you guys have any ideas?»
«Don’t worry about it, we’ll take care of it»
And so went the next 3 hours with Anthony and his 2 man crew getting sh*t done like real professionals. TV? Got a special box for it. Frames and shelves? Anthony + old boxes + box cutters = Custom wrap for each piece. Simply amazing.
Moral of the story? Never move (but if you have to, call Isaac’s)

After having a really bad experience, which I posted here back in 2008 when I moved from Boston to Atlanta the owner mysteriously reached out to me in December 2012 due to him reading the bad review on Unilocal.He pulled my file (which they still had) and reviewed what was claimed for damages and tried to make things right.
I was impressed that he had this level of diligence and went through all of the file and determined that the settlement was not fair. He offered to try to make things right (essentially doubling the $ 250 they gave me for damaging my belongings, even though I spent a lot of insurance).
Just that alone is worth me changing my review. It’s not often that you see owners who actually care about the business and that customers are satisfied. Granted this took over 4 years, but I was impressed none the less. It doesn’t help my poor experience in 2008, but it makes me happy that they tried to make it right eventually.
