We stayed at Green Mountain Inn recently, so I hit this place for breakfast twice as it’s right next door. I can’t say much about lunch, as I never tried the sandwiches, but the menu looked delicious. It’s a deli style spot with a few tables, but I chose to carry out. I had the garden omelet in a wrap and it was very good. Big enough to split with someone in my opinion. Since it was so amazing, I went back another morning to get food for my husband and I, so we tried the standard bacon, egg, and cheese on an English and the homemade oatmeal with the works. The sandwich was ok, nothing special. I felt it needed a little more flavor and the English muffin was a bit stale. I was excited about the oatmeal, but it left something to be desired, still tasty though… especially the candied walnuts! The coffee was superb. I will definitely go back again for the breakfast wraps and to try lunch! Staff is also extremely friendly!

There are many lunch options in Stowe and as I local I frequent Café on Main the most. Everything from the soup, sandwiches, and breakfast pastries are delish!

We came here because it was not so far from where we were staying. The guy with the glasses that I think was the owner was funny and nice. The place is located inside a building with 4 other random stores. This place should probably move to its own little building because the atmosphere would be a lot better if it was alone. We got the oatmeal with maple and candied walnuts. This stick to your ribs food was hearty and fulfilling. Couldn’t even finish it but I wanted to. Would recommend this place since it seems like Stowe lacks great breakfast places. It’s the best one yet.

A remarkable deli right on Main Street in Stowe, Café on Main was a convenient pit stop on our way home yesterday. We we’re looking MF for a place where we could get a decent sandwich and get on our way quick, and this fit the bill perfectly. The sandwiches were excellent. Fresh breads, good produce, and quality meats make for a solid lunch on the go. Their chicken salad was really tasty and I really liked their house balsamic mustard. It was a small deli but there were some tables and a counter to sit at. Looked like it would be a great option for breakfast sandwiches, lunch, salads, soups, and baked goods. Their sandwiches are huge, but they also will make half sandwiches. Prices are what you would expect in Stowe, but warranted by the quality of what you are getting. We will be back for sure!

I love this place. Their sandwiches are complex yet simple, and their baked goods are the finest examples of what pastries should be. But I have never been able to enjoy or even try any of their breakfasts because they stop serving breakfast at an unholy hour before eleven. I’ve been to Stowe a dozen times, and have never yet managed to get there in time for breakfast. A justified reason to take away a star? I think so. Stowe is a vacation destination, and who gets up so early? I’ll bet their breakfast sandwiches are as perfect as their lunchtime sandwiches. I wish I could order one in advance and ask them to simply hold it for me. I’ll go back the next time I’m in Stowe, but I just wish I could try one of their breakfast sandwiches.

Great little café on Main Street in Stowe, VT. I was in Stowe, VT for a boards review course and stopped by Café on Main a couple of times for lunch, snacks, and drinks. Café on Main offers breakfast, lunch, and a bakery. I tried various pastries and all were well made and delicious. I also tried the tuna salad sandwich which was well flavored and tasty. Café on Main is small and located in a larger building with a bunch of different stores. Despite the small space, Café on Main has tables for its customers. And, from the looks of things, it’s a very popular establishment! Locals and visitors alike seem to frequent Café on Main! Definitely stop by for a coffee and pastry if you’re in town!

The terrifying thing about Unilocal is that reviews can have a very real effect on a person’s business, on someone’s livelihood. That’s a heavy thing to consider when blasting a horrible establishment, but a privilege when you consider a place like Café on Main. Funny thing is, bad management always objects to terrible reviews after the fact, when they should have simply treated you well when you were there. The guy who runs this business has the winning formula down pat and need not worry– he’s genuine, treats everyone like a friend and serves killer food. That’s all. Not that hard, really. Except it apparently is for some people. Our first stop-in was for sandwiches from their extensive list. Yeah, sandwiches seem simple, but the ingredients here are such quality and the flavor combinations so spot on, I have to give this guy serious credit. The turkey with cranberry compote and homemade mustard was bananas. Spicy, savory, sweet– so perfect. TRY. IT. Seriously, just try it. The turkey club was also excellent and featured thick, crispy, salty, mapley bacon like you’d expect to get in Vermont. Dessert was a big, soft ginger cookie, a warm maple walnut cookie and a fresh-baked cinnamon strudel muffin. At the end of the meal the owner stopped by the table just to say hey and ask if we’d enjoyed everything– but not in the way some do, as some kind of robotic, calculated obligation. He was just a nice dude. And of course we did. In addition to the awesome food, the place is just cozy and so charming that Hugh Grant would look like a sleazy a-hole if he walked in here. We enjoyed lunch so much we stopped by the next morning to try breakfast. The owner again greeted us with a huge smile and, sensing my raging Heady Topper hangover, helped me fix up a large, turbo-charged«Vermont iced coffee» with maple syrup. Sounds odd, but it was delicious– the perfect beverage to wash down a huge Belgian waffle with a side of more delicious bacon. Look– I can’t say enough about Café on Main. It’s everything a business should be and this guy makes it seem effortless– though you know it’s anything but. So deserving of five stars and my pleasure to give it.

Breakfast was decent, got an egg and cheese, homefries(which were sadly unseasoned) and a waffle.

Ho hum really. No café latte and breakfast was marginal. Cool space but doesn’t flow so when crowded its awkward with people trying to order on one side of you and empty dishes into a bin on the other. Find another place

Excellent café. Reasonable prices for an area loaded with tourist traps and very tasty food. Breakfast and lunch sandwiches are dope(fresh ingredients & made with care). Service is very friendly and quick. A warm and friendly small town environment. FYI: The soups are vegetarian friendly. You can sit at a bar that looks out the window to main street. Legit breakfast items are available(omelets, home fries) till 10:45.

Awesome service — delicious food. 6 kinds of coffee. We ordered the Greek omelette and it was incredible — fresh, filled with spinach, feta, tomato and kalamata olives. They have gluten free toast(yay) and I got a GF cookie too! The people at the table beside us were raving about their granola — great local spot and worth the visit for breakfast(much more tasty than the green Mountain Inn next door)

Clam chowder was great, grilled cheese was spectacular and the flavor never got old or felt too heavy(like some grilled cheeses can), and the chicken salad was delicious and nut-free! A real bonus for me. I wish we could have tried everything. If I lived up there, I’d go back all the time.

Next to the Inn we were staying at. Nice hometown atmosphere. Nice selection for breakfast or lunch. Muffins looked wonderful, passed them for the Nor’ Eastern!

I’ve been here twice. The first time was February and the place was packed. Service was slow. Food was unremarkable. Altogether an uncomfortable experience. But I figured, I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and a second chance. This time, mid-summer. Mid-afternoon. Still blah food. Higher than expected prices. Slow service. Cramped dining room. There are so many better options in Stowe. Steer clear of this one.

Nice little place. Decent breakfast sandwiches. Good looking and tasting salads. It’s a tad pricey, but not terrible value for Stowe. I recommend it highly for a light breakfast or lunch, OR to pick some things up to go for s picnic.

If I was a local, I would absolutely be a regular here. Think Luke’s Diner on Gilmore Girls. It’s small and cozy. You feel right at home. The menu is handwritten on chalkboards. The staff is so friendly and welcoming. It’s a very laid back environment. You order you food, and then they bring it to you, but there is no wait staff. It seemed like a good mixture of locals and tourists. Honestly what makes this place is the atmosphere. I can’t gush enough about how friendly and relaxed the staff was or how cozy the interior was. The food was delicious and cheap. I had a Belgian waffle with bacon, a simple breakfast. The bacon was cooked more perfectly than any bacon I’ve ever had. The waffle was good as well, though a bit sweet for me. Like I said, if I lived here, I would probably return daily! Loved it!

This review could be just for the waffles, they are by far and away, the best I’ve had while eating out. The coffee here is average at best, but that’s not the point. Having lived in Stowe for nearly 10 years, I have seen this place change hands four times, and the breakfast fare, soups, salads and sandwiches make it my first choice for breakfast or lunch.

We stumbled across this sandwich and salad place while looking for a good lunch place today… I tried the black forest ham sandwich which came with a mango chutney… was a bit skeptical at first .but wow. It was delicious. The combination of the sweet chutney with the ham and lettuce was perfect. They have a large selection of soups, sandwiches and salads available. Prices are reasonable as well. Definitely worth checking out.
