By far my favorite place in Stowe. Hated to hear that it was closed down. Cant wait to try their successor

Was looking forward to an awesome lunch… Only to find a sign taped on the door stating restaurant is CLOSED… Don’t waste a trip to Stowe if this was your only destination.

3 of 4 stars(good, casual dining). (see explanation of ratings below) Guac made tableside? La verdad! Great tacos and reasonably priced. Fresh guacamole made table-side! Smart idea. About $ 25-$ 30 per person, before tip, booze included, no dessert. Nacho chips taste like they have something sweet sprinkled on them. About my ratings: Only high-priced dining establishments can garner five stars. Until Unilocal realizes that a fast food joint cannot possibly be ranked equally with a $ 100 per person place, I need to draw the line somewhere. If we were only talking about the quality and presentation of the food, it would be a different story. But, as we know, Unilocal’s rankings take into account the entire dining experience. Therefore, I divide restaurants into three categories(and I wish Unilocal would do the same): 1) fast food and«fast-casual», low-priced(no table service). 2) casual, mid-priced dining(table service, average entrée price: $ 10-$ 20). 3) fine, high-priced dining(linen napkins, no plastic cups, no TV’s in dining room, average entrée priced at more than $ 20, can vary depending on the city). High-priced dining can earn a max of five stars. Mid-priced dining can earn a max of four stars. Fast food can earn a max of three stars.

Superb. First rate service, despite a completely full restaurant. Our waitress explained the menu options carefully(we had friends with us that had not eaten Mexican before) and recommended some great choices. The tastes were fresh, with individual ingredients shining through, and nothing too heavy handed in the seasoning. Some reviews complain about lack of spice and small tacos… well our waitress explained the need to order 3 – 4 tacos(which would come to 12 – 15 $) and I was very impressed by mine, a real flavor explosion for a perfect sized appetizer. Spicing may not be up there with some Mexican food in terms of heat, but nothing was lacking in flavor. Mexican food is not ONE thing, authentic is not the only way to go and this place serves first rate Mexican food with its own fresh twist. No hesitation in recommending.

Tableside guacamole IS cool, but it doesn’t taste any better than what we get at Costco. Great tequila list. Why is there sugar on the tortilla chips? Tiny tacos are messier than full size ones, and Frida’s cost just as much(but it IS Stowe). We’ve been there twice, and it’s nice. I know Stowe isn’t Phoenix, but if it’s going to be a Mexican restaurant, I don’t want the flavors to be dialed back for a Vermont audience.

The absolute best Mexican ever! We left LA for the east coast and have been Jonesing ever since! Their vegetarian options are just as good!

Came here for dinner the other night, and the whole experience was… fine. Nothing spectacularly good or bad, just fine. So I’ll keep it short. Food — the group shared some mussels, which I thought were a little tough/bland, but were huge at least. I had a couple of tacos(pescado and carnitas). Both were… okay. I don’t know, something about them was just lacking… Prices seemed a bit high for me, but I keep forgetting it’s a resort town. Few decent beers on draft, although my friend had a porter that just did not taste right… Atmosphere — loud, busy, fun(ish). Service — friendly. Poor girl did the best she could — it was crowded/loud and we were a decent sized group. In conclusion — there don’t seem to be a lot of great options in the area for a casual tasty meal and drinks in Stowe, so you’ll probably end up here. It’ll be fine. But don’t go out of your way.

Nice atmosphere. Chips and salsa were fantastic. The guac which is made fresh was kinda blah. No fajitas on menu. Tacos are decent but I am not a huge corn tortilla fan.

What’s the odds of going to this restaurant a second time on Cinqo de Mayo and getting the same waitress? That’s what happened to us last year and this year. .. Chloe(since it’s not a common name, it clicked my memory of the prior year) gave us excellent service both times. The food is excellent and the holiday makes for a fun time. Making fresh guacamole tableside was interesting to watch and the results were very tasty. If in this area, this is a very enjoyable place to have a meal if you enjoy Mexican food.

This is a late review, I went while on vacain Stowe dec 2012. This is hands down one of the best restaurants in the city, as all the locals will tell you. I know what you’re thinking-«Hispanic food in Vermont? Surely we have better in X city» but I promise it’s worth it! It’s really excellent, and the table side guac is worth it. We went multiple times in 1 week. Fun bar and good drinks too. Go!

Don’t bother with take out or with their chimichangas, instead of getting a chimichanga you are getting a fried burrito with rice and beans inside it. They don’t include rice and beans on the side. The don’t ask if you want sour cream or guacamole with it. Oh and if you are doing take out the the chips are extra. Their chimichanga’s don’t come with a beef option either. For the future maybe their will improve their take out service and also beef up on how to prepare chimichangas. If you want a good Chimichanga made the way it should be — go to the Cactus Café up the Mountain road, much superior!

I’m from Buffalo and I just WISH we had a place like this that had the different/unique choices as Fridas did. My boyfriend and I ordered about everything on the menu and everything was fantastic. The beef tongue tacos really caught our eye, we also had the guac that was fresh(made right infront of you) and the portion was super generous. We had so much more but everything was full of great flavor and I loved te ambience as well! Wish I could go here all of the time!

My family discovered Frida’s four years ago during our annual visit to Stowe. I love Mexican food(even if it’s not«authentic Mexican») and was thrilled to see that a Mexican restaurant had opened up in Stowe. We’ve now made it one of our regular nights out when we come into town every December. Every table is given chips and salsa to start, and we like to order the guacamole, which is made fresh, table-side. They have a variety of Margaritas on the menu and although I’m not a huge tequila fan, I usually indulge in a house margarita during my visit.(Hey, when in Rome!) My favorite part of the menu is the a la carte taco section. I ordered the Al pastor and Camarone tacos– both of which were uniquely prepared and delicious. I also had a side of Rajas.(roasted poblano peppers, onions and cream) I was cautious about ordering a dish soaked in cream, but poblano peppers are my favorite, and alas, they were flavorful. I was even able to drain a bit of the cream before I ate them. For dessert, I shared a Torta Cielo(almond cake) with my significant other. We were stuffed, but as soon as I saw almond cake, I knew I had to try it. Amazing. Overall, we have always been thrilled with our visits to Fridas. The staff is friendly and service is quick. We will be back next year!

Hard to believe you can find decent Mexican food in Stowe, Vt, but’s true. Place is cute, tucked inside what appears to be an older, stately home on the main drag in Stowe. Restaurant has a combination of tables and booths, with a small bar and the usual Mexican restaurant décor. Shared a spicy calamari appetizer(which was REALLY good!) and opted for the«pick-your-own– 3 taco entrée with beans and rice(extra charge for the sides — really!). My fave was the pork and pineapple — really different and really tasty. The others were, meh. I am not a margharita lover, but I did try Frida’s and I must say I did enjoy it. Service was fine, prices are what you would expect in a more«upscale» Mexican restaurant, but overall a decent experience. Would I go back? Yes. Would I necessarily seek them out? No.

I do so wish I could get decent Mexican food like this in my town. I wouldn’t call this«authentic» but the food was great. I had a trio of tacos(shrimp and two different porks) all were excellent. My wife had what he described as the best chimichanga that she’d ever had. My fifteen year old daughter had the Baja burrito and my picky thirteen year old daughter have a chicken enchilada that she just loved. My wife had a dark beer from Sabago brewery and I had a wonderfully hoppy IPA from Vermont. Excellent beers.

Pretty decent mexican food available in the town of Stowe. They have an expansive back deck for outdoor seating to take advantage of the beautiful weather when it occurs. We waited for a little bit to get seated for six on the back deck for brunch during some weather but it wasn’t bad. We were finally seated awkwardly at two tables pushed together with one long side against the railing. When we ordered the guacamole to share, we had to split it in two in order for all of us to reach. I was a little disappointed when we were served our freshly made guacamole… there wasn’t very much in each of the two molcajete we received and we could see the bottom. However, the guacamole was pretty decent, with strong avocado and onion flavors. Their portion sizes for food are substantial. I couldn’t finish the huevos rancheros I was served. On the other hand, you can pick any of the wonderfully sounding small tacos, and if you pick three, you get beans and rice, which is also a substantial amount of food. The bloody Maria had a bite, but otherwise didn’t have much flavor. Service was pretty good; all served with a smile!

Frida’s was such a complete improvement from the restaurant we went to the night before, it erased he idea in my mind that Stowe had no idea how to cook at all. Everything was tasty and insanely fresh. the fresh guacamole was not made at our table, but it came over and there was plenty enough of it to munch on throughout dinner. the salsa was good enough that we asked for an extra bowl of it as well. My Chimichanga was like a large fried burrito and there was lots of pork inside. The tacos my girl got were very nice looking too. I was too stuffed to try it. The beers and the margarita were also very delicious. Final bill came out to $ 40. Much deserved and worth it.

Frida’s, a new Mexican joint that opened quite recently in Stowe, was a stop for a lunch with my girlfriend this past week. We had heard a lot about the place, especially that it was better than Cactus Café(a nearby Mexican place in Stowe, VT as well). We stopped in and gave it a try… The food was DELICIOUS, My girlfriend got a Margarita, which she said was delicious. I’m not a big hard liquor fan, so I didn’t have it, but she said it was among the best she’s had. The one drawback: chips + dip here are NOTINCLUDED — you must pay $ 3 for them, which we gladly did, and devoured them. The chips were coated with a salty/sweet seasoning that was UNREAL, and paired with the salsa, made for an excellent appetizer. I got the regular beef burrito, which came with AUTHENTICSHREDDEDBEEF(not taco meat, which was a HUGE ++), queso-cream cheese, mexican cheese, beans, and lettuce. it was DELICIOUS. Extremely thick and meaty, the beef was extremely tasty and fresh. It’s always a plus when you get authentic beef for your burrito — too many places do the imitation and i can’t stand for it. Overall, one of THEBEST Mexican experiences I’ve had, and I look forward to coming here on my next trip to Stowe.

My wife and I stopped here for lunch, she has a thing for trying all Mexican food wherever we go, be it Belgium, Chicago, Luxembourg or Stowe(she is from SoCal). We weren’t expecting much having been used to Boston quality Mexican food(which does have its highlights) but we were pleasantly surprised by what we had. The Margaritas and Sangria were excellent, the Tacos(though small) were fantastic we tried the fish(cod), chicken and carne assada all served on home made corn tortillas with assorted toppings. The salsa was decent(not from a jar though) and the chips were excellent, had a very sweet sugary taste to them. Also the beans and rice were far better than what usually comes with a Taco meal. Over all the food was a bit expensive for the portions and by no means was this the best Mexican I have ever had but for New England Mexican food(Stowe no less), one of the farthest place you can possibly be from Mexico in the continental US this was very good quality for Mexican. By far the best my wife and I have ever had in New England.

We went here for dinner tonight and had a very nice meal. I ordered only 1 taco and the guacamole and you should know that the tacos here are tini tiny — so you can’t make a meal of one — or even two — unless you do what I did and pile on the guac :) We actually watched one of the staff make the guac with a big mortar and pestle and then they served it to us in that very container. It was absolutely fresh and delicious! My vegetarian taco was also delicious and had some unique ingredients like cactus paddles. My friend had a beef burrito and a beef tongue taco and cleared his plate as well. I’d gladly return with more of an appetite so that I can try something a bit bigger :)
