Leland High Sierra Snowplay

What a fun place for families to enjoy the snow! We brought our 2 ½ year old here for his first time in the snow. He had a blast! The sledding is super fun and he was able to enjoy the smaller walk-​up hills. The big hills and tow looked fun, but definitely for older kids/​teens and adults. We had fun making snow men and playing in the snow as well, too.
The price might seem a little high, but considering that you’re getting man-​made and regular snow together plus well groomed sledding and access to tubes, I felt like the price was fair. If you don’t feel like paying, we saw some hill-​y areas that were a mix of snow and mud. I’ll take the bathrooms, indoors with fire and heated patio personally. Overall, a fun place to go for families.

Excellent place for sledding. Kids and adult friendly too. Excellent location coming from the the Bay Area. Will come back here for sure every year.

Kids misbehaving? Teach them a lesson and bring them here. Not only will they wait in excess of 45 minutes to slide down a hill for 30 seconds (no, it was not during a busy time)-they will be treated horribly by every single employee along the way! And they will most certainly NOT be playing in any snow! Adding «snowplay» to the business name is a very clever trick.
In all seriousness though, really a terribly overpriced place with extremely rude employees. Looking at their Facebook page it seems they justify being rude by calling it «telling it like it is», they boast having been in the business for 25 years-​maybe over the course of these 25 years they have just become jaded and bitter, which is ODD. Normally for a business longevity would do the opposite. Rather than greet their well paying customers with any kind of common courtesy, they treat them like a nuisance.

We came towards closing and got the discounted late entry of $ 13 or so
The top sleds are for adults and teens where a pulley system takes u there while u sit on and ride the circular rubber floatie so u don’t get tired
My smaller kids liked the shorter smaller sled area and the 3 yo rode with dad while the older girls did all by themselves. Teenager liked the taller sleds and u have to pay higher price to be tied and pullied up (tow up is what they call it) to them
If u want all day come early before opening and get your full days worth
Or get the 2 hour pass for a bit less only or get the last hour pass for cheaper pay
There is a snow play area but it’s very compacted hard snow
We went next day to a hill with lots of open area and fresh snow to sled and snowball fight for free
But I still liked it that we went to Leland
The difference is toilet accessory, a fire place to warm up, lots of free safe parking, organized chaos and cottage to stay inside for Leland… the free Sierra mountain though has fresh snow and nice backdrop but slide down at your own risk and parking is super limited on side of freeway

Great place, loved the people… they are happy and helpful. It was our first time here and we thought it was a fun place. We bought the all day pass and it was my husband and I with our 13 year old daughter. We were there two hours because we got bored but the runs are fun. They have I think 5 runs but four were open and we did each one many times because it wasn’t that busy. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra money and buy the tow. We were tired from being towed, walking, sledding, walking and then being towed again. Doesn’t seem like a lot of work but it is. We brought our lunch and ate in the parking lot which is really close and not a big deal to walk back too.

Decent snow play for kids. Grill was not too $ but the entrance fees are a bit much. Overall, a pretty good time for the fam.
Now… There is a guy at the check in desk who is a complete jerk. He was rude to us and rude to everyone who asked him a question. I don’t know if he’s a manager or owner but wow… He treats people horribly and needs a lesson in customer service. Put a smile on it buddy.
The place is understaffed for sure. They need to reorganize the joint and it could be a great spot.

A two hour pass is plenty of time, get there early if possible and bring snacks. It very crowded by noon.

Been here twice in the past, fun for kids but gets a bit boring after a while. We paid holiday rates which was $ 35 each person. Workers are really RUDE!

Do not go here on a busy holiday weekend! You will spend half your day waiting in line. They are simply not well organized for and cannot accommodate large crowds. People waited as much as 90 minutes just to buy entry tickets, and other people were just sauntering in and cutting to the front of the line. We only managed to get in 4 downhill runs with tubes in the 2+ hours that we were there because the lines were so long. That being said, tube runs are very fun. The tubes are nice quality, the tow lift is efficient. I would like to return to this snow park but I will never again go on a holiday weekend! Maybe not even on any weekend.

I took my 7-​year-​old son to Leland Snowplay in the week between Christmas and New Year’s, which is probably the most crowded time to go, so it is very likely the experience can only be better outside of this week. I believe it is a well run, safe, and convenient tubing park.
I bought two 2-​hour tow-​ride tickets for me and my boy and hit the slope. We had no problem getting appropriate tubes, which were in very good condition, and waited in a short line at the tow rope up the big hill. At the top of the hill was my only gripe of the day as the line for a turn down the well-​groomed hill was about a 15 – 20 minute wait. Knowing the wait to be long, we changed our strategy and walked up for our next run, and the walk and wait together was around five minutes since the walk-​up line has its own run. We had four more runs in about 30 minutes before my boy got too cold due to poor preparation on my part.
If you and your children are in good shape and have a good attitude about walking up a short and not too steep hill, then buy a walk-​up ticket to save some money. Also the walk will keep you warmer in the cold.
Two hours was enough time for us, as their understandable safety regulations mean only one person may go down at a time, but after the fifth time down the excitement wore off for me.

i brought my 3 year old (almost 4) son here for some tubing and snow play. he had a blast, and so did we. it was a lot of walking up and down, but in the end my mini-​me had a great time and would love to go back.
my findings:
— if your little is 44″ or shorter, they cannot use the tow rope and go to the bigger runs. i was fine with this since he was perfectly comfortable for the shorter, less steep, runs that we had to walk up.
— i was here between christmas/​new years break, and it was PACKED. so packed, that they stopped selling all-​day tow-​rope passes, and peeps had to wait for the 2-​hour passes to come in and drop them off. with so many people there, the wait to from getting on the tow-​rope to going down the higher runs was about 20+ mins, easy
— you can bring snacks/​food to picnic. we did this and cut expenses down (a cheeseburger, and corndog = $ 16)
— they sell beer.
— cell coverage is super shotty. like no service to 3g — both ATT and Verizon
— put your kids in snow gear and stuff they’ll wail around in the snow and not get wet. jeans wont do, nor high-​top shoes. boots and water repellent all the way
— you cannot hangout in the snow. they have the areas fenced off to only those that buy passes. you can however chill in the ‘lodge’ or on the deck.
— bring a long lens if you plan on snapping pics. i took a 70−250mm that got up pretty close for those on the taller/​higher runs.
— lots of free parking
the peeps at the counter heavily emphasized that this was their peek busy time. if we came midweek, we’d have the place to ourselves with about 20 other people. there were hundreds when we were there.
your kids will have fun, and thats the point of it all.

I had not previously been here, but after my family’s visit, Leland Snowplay far exceeded my expectations. Nice heated lodge, clean bathrooms, large deck, good food. Kids had a blast. It got quite crowded and lines slowed, but I expected it, as we went on Christmas break. Do your self a favor and get there when it opens.

I drove up on Christmas Eve through a storm and when we got there it was empty. I guess not many were going to drive in the storm :)
My kids loved it; they went down with all smiles. It was their first time seeing snow and playing in it. I will visit them again, if not this season, next. They make snow angels, threw snow, ate it too!
I highly encourage leaving before it gets dark and bring your own snacks too.
We had a great experience.

We come back several times in a season. We love you guys! Service is great. Food on site. Picnic tables with heaters outside. Plenty of parking. Bathroom facilities are big. Place gets packed on weekends. Friend them on Facebook to get the latest updates.
Cost includes tube to slide down the hill.

We had a group of 8 today (5 adults and three kids from 5 up to 12) Everyone had a great time and spent a couple hours sliding down the hills. The kids went on the smaller hill, then to the large hill and back again.
Even though it was was pretty popular today due to the winter break, snow storms and their new snow making capability we all got enough time on the hill to make it very fun. The staff was very friendly and courteous. We will definitely be back.
P.S.
It isn’t inexpensive, but it is certainly not as much as Dodge Ridge (Which I have enjoyed since I was a teenager)… Our group costs $ 280 for all day fun at Leland, but would cost $ 400 for the same at Dodge. Dodge is great for skiing and and snowboarding and Leland Snow Play is best for family fun where parents and kids can enjoy tubing down the hill together.

I have been to Leland Snow Park twice and both times we had a great time. We also go with a good size group, with ages running from 6– 60. Although it is pricey for a family. If you don’t have all the snow equipment, sleds tubes etc… It is actually pretty awesome! No hassle. Don’t have to bring they stuff and don’t have to take it home. I recommend to be there early to avoid lines. To be honest even the food is reasonable $ 8:50 for a good looking Cheeseburger and Fries. Recommend doing the all day for $ 35 tow row because then the kids don’t get too tired and will last all day.

Not worth the money, at least if your kid is under 3 year old.
First of all, the price is way too expensive. For the same price I can pretty much get a half day pass (with coupon) at Dodge Ridge for a much larger facility.
My recommendation: eat at Mi Wuk Village (about 15 miles West) and play outside of this facility for free!
IMPORTANT: free sledding location: intersection between highway 108 and Leland Meadow Road.
I give it a 2-​star because it will be an okay place if you have kids between 3 – 4 of age. I still think it is better to go to Dodge Ridge and learn how to ski.

Overpriced, Overcrowded, Understaffed, Heavy Traffic, and No customer Service.
Traffic getting into the park, 1 ½ hour wait to get tickets into the park, Out of snow tubes, Service clerk rolled her eyes at our questions and was breathing heavy, They were out of snow tubes, 45 minute wait to go down the slope, expensive tickets and really not worth the long trip. Thankfully I’ve had better experiences at other snow locations to know that this place is way OVERRATED. I swallowed the treatment because I promised my kids snow and only for that reason. Oh, and did I say, They were OUT of snow tubes?

This place is over priced and under staffed. If you have youngs kids, 4 – 8 years old, it’s not for you. This is not a family friendly place.
It cost $ 13 for 2 hours of access to the snow area and walk up hill to a crowded slope for tubing. The area is small. You can find a snow play area near the Mi Wuk village. And that is free.
It cost $ 35 for 2 hours of tow tubing. They tow you up a steeper slope and you slide down on a tube. But the lines were so long. About 15 to 20 minutes wait.
If you are a teen and don’t care about customer service then maybe you’ll like it.
For families with small kids who want to just play in the snow and do some light tubing, try somewhere else.

so never being here we were excited to take my little one.
I would say to only get the 2 hour tow up, well as an adult you can only go up and down the slides so many times before you truly get sick, lol. if you have kids then maybe the kids can have an all day pass and you can sit outside on their deck and have a glass of wine :) i will say that when we wanted to eat (around lunch time, big mistake) the line was insanely long! its sooo crazy! why do they sell tickets and the food in one line? they definitely need to work on that. Some families take their own picnic.
next visit this is what I would do:
1. eat at the parking lot before we go in. energize! (actually some people were bbq during lunch time)
2. only get the 2 hour tow
3. make sure to have the right gear on. Snow shoes, waterproof pants, jacket and gloves. I felt bad some kids who had jeans, regular shoes, light sweater and no gloves :(
4. UGH!!! make sure to lift your bottom off the ground when sliding down if there are any holes at that paticular slide. a couple of the slides had holes! I hit myself so hard I thougth i broke my A** bone! LOL just lift your booty up!
5. did not taste the food. since the line was so long we left to go eat at a restaurant about 10 miles away I believe it was strawberry’s inn? it was about 50 $ for 4 people
