I have been here about 4 times so I know what it is about. We went there last night with a party of 6 just to go upstairs to Kareoke and have drinks. When we arrived on a Saturday night at about midnight, the place was empty. They were charging a cover for this dive bar. The guy at the desk was a pompous jerk. We wanted to just go upstairs and spend money in the bar and they wanted a cover for this dive at midnight? The doorman said«it isn’t a dive, we have a club in here». Oh really? A club? I’ve been to clubs. This isn’t a club. They don’t even have bottle service. We paid the cover(even though some of us didn’t want to out of principle). We went upstairs for about an hour for some of the worst karaōke ever. The place smelled like urine. I’m not sure how the health department keeps them open. We left after an hour and I stopped in the bathroom downstairs. I heard someone say it was the worst disco dj they had ever heard. The bathroom was so disgustingly dirty. I will post photos to follow. The bartenders are always nice and the drinks are good. It’s too bad they charge a cover for what is actually a dive bar that they consider a club and act like snobby doormen. They could make a lot of money on drinks without trying to gouge customers coming in for kareoke. From the looks of the lack of crowd on a Saturday night, other people agree. Our friends from Century City have a policy of not paying a cover for a bar. We paid it anyway and it was a mistake. There were 6 of us so I hope the $ 30 cover was worth it for them for 6 bad Unilocal reviews. These guys at the door were total snobs at what really is a go to valley dive bar. We are all avid Unilocalers with the majority of good reviews so you know it’s bad when I give one star.

Great place to have some drinks, dance and meet friendly people. My friends and I always have a great time. Yes there is only 1 ladies room stall but it goes quick. No frills, good music and good drinks!

Came on a Friday night and had an absolute blast! They teach line dancing and then play modern country that you can dance to throughout the night. Everyone is so friendly and fun to dance with. I’ll be celebrating my 30th birthday here!

DJ Mark MacDonald was amazing on Disco Saturday Nights. Please make sure you listen to this classically trained DJ spin Disco like the way it should be programmed. He has a great ear and pays attention to the crowd. He will be back on Saturday Labor Day Weekend. This guy needs to be the resident DJ at OCH.

«Thank you for being a friend… Traveled down the road and back again, Your heart is true you’re a pal and a confida’NNNt… …And if you threw a paR’tayyyy… Invited everyone you ever knewwww-woooo… You would seeeee’, the biggest gift would be from me… And the carRRRd attacHHHed would saYYY… thank you for being a frienddddd(uh).» _________________________________________ Yeah ^ ^ … I think that just about sums up Oil Can Harry’s. By no means am I a club goer but with reference to this place, I felt an update to be undeniably overdue. If anything, I’m more the jazz, wine, charcuterie, cheese spread, scented candle over good conversation type yet this place has seriously grown on me. I’m sensing a story: Occasionally my older«bear» friends tend to phone me up and upon their hearing Scandal’ and Jeopardy repeats playing in the background(I lead such a hum drum life), they’re able to deduce that I’m doing –ALLOFNOTHING – , and somehow, I’m ALWAYS talked into hopping in the shower and accompanying them to this«Wrinkle Room»(just joking guys) tucked away in good olé’ Studio City. My likes here are relatively simple, unlike all of the gay bars and clubs just around the ‘river’s bend’ in WeHo, the theme here, while somewhat«cowboy inspired», is more so, «come as you are» …rather than«be the best«Chicken Hawk» you can be. Feel free to Wikipedia that one! The atmosphere conveyed at OCH is without a doubt, drama-free as everyone seems to just want to have a great time!!! This provides a much overdue explanation as to why they’ve conjured so much devoted patronage from regulars and managed to stick around for the duration of their tenure. From the karaōke(and jello shots) offered upstairs to the line dancing downstairs, I don’t think I’ve ever heard this much Donna Summers in my life!!! Seeing as how this ain’t your average«zipper club», there’s really NO need to worry about«lounge lizards»; …just dress casually and prepare to break a sweat as you enjoy cock — tails and the added perk of great conversation amongst good friends. In short, if you’re seeking to bypass the pretentiousness(let alone congestion) of WeHo and don’t feel up to driving out to the«Alamitos Beach» /Broadway area within Long Beach,…feel free to travel«over the bridge to Pimpleton» and make your way to the valley. There are no «iron closet» cases to worry about, «cottaging» is kept to a minimum and you can leave your«Nine Dollar Bills» on your kitchen table. _______________________________________________________________________ Gay colloquialisms provided by:

Oil Can Harry’s runs a karaōke bar upstairs where they allow, support and defend white folks singing the n word. The karaōke DJ is the worst facilitator. They will not get my business again.

It’s a cowboy-themed gay bar in the East Valley. They square dance and play pool on the ground floor, sling karaōke upstairs, and talk everywhere(it’s quiet enough to hear, but there’s so much weird stuff going on that there is plenty to talk about and marvel at). Walking into Oil Can Harry’s on a Friday night is surreal. Folks who got there early have been practicing, and there is some serious line dancing going down on that neon-lit barnyard floor. It sounds dorky, but it’s anything but– these guys(and some non-guys as well) can really dance, and it’ll make you want to come early next time to join the fun. The karaōke upstairs has a good selection of songs and a weird selection of performers. It’s a mellow enough set up to ward off stage fright and get 2 songs in during the night. The crowd has some eccentrics that are definitely fun to talk to, but it’s mostly gays-next-door. It’s one of the more age-diverse gay bars I’ve been to, and while there are more men, lesbians are pretty well represented too. It’s a really fun night out, and a must for people seeking down to earth gay nightlife in LA.

Great Disco Dance Club and Great Karaōke All In One! I have Not been to this Very Famous Disco Club in about 10 years and it pretty much looks the same from the last time and they are even at the Same, Exact Location which is Great! They are definitely doing Something Right in order to last for this long and I can see Why? First of all, they are known for playing Memorable, Non-Stop Fantastic Disco Music and have a great loyal following of customers. They also have Karaōke upstairs with DJ Mario who has been Spinning their Songs for years in which You can enjoy on almost any night of the week! Furthermore, they even offer Dance Lessons on various nights which can include anything from Disco to Salsa. I personally want to thank John, the owner for Inviting me out and Guadalupe, their doorman for the friendly chat and DJ Mario for allowing me to sing two of songs. I have taken some pictures and even though I am Not the best photographer, I sure hope that you will enjoy them. I hope to see you guys again soon! Keep Up The Good Work!

Big country leather themed bar with a lot of small town charm that appeals and invites all walks of life especially the occasional celebrity. Line dancing is great best on Fridays if you’re advanced, Thursdays if you’re a newbie or intermediate. Two bars downstairs and one up in the loft where Karaōke magic happens Friday and Saturday, but get there early… sign up feels up fast. Happy hour is half all drinks before cap hour(10pm on Saturday… earlier every other day during the week)… If you love to dance and unwind… disco magic pops off Saturday. Perfect place to boot scoot boggie, shake shake shake yo booty or hell sing about it. CHEERS

A very fun place!!! Went there with some of my friends on a Friday night for some country dancing. I was a little skeptical as a straight person going to a gay bar and wasn’t sure what to expect, however the people were very nice! It was a great experience and the dancing was very fun! The cover is reasonable($ 5) and the drinks are priced fairly($ 6 for a jack and coke that is 2⁄3 jack). I would recommend this place for a fun time dancing with friends and I would definitely try it again!

How can you not give five stars to one of the few places left in the Valley where people can go, be themselves and have a damn good time doing it. Look, it doesn’t work out that each event they try to do get a big turnouts and that’s a shame. Personally, I wish they had girl’s night on a Friday or Saturday, because Thursday is just not a night that I van come out and go drinking. However, if you want to wind down with a drink after work, definitely go to the loft for happy hour. The guys up there are so nice, funny as hell and just lovely. Every fourth Thursday the Mary White Band plays downstairs and you just can’t miss that. They are Super awesome and the dancing is great. Robin is one of the friendliest bartenders that I’ve ever met and such a beautiful person. Go Here!!!

Back again last night after getting my hair done and ready to dance the night away with my awesome hairdresser and his crew! A couple things have changed since the last time I was here and for the better: 1.) The 2-for-1 Happy Hour with the wristband is gone. Now, it’s just half-off all drinks before 10 pm! Strong gin-and-tonic for $ 3.50? Yes, please. They do not skimp on the alcohol here. 2.) The videos accompanying the music seem way better than last time I was here. Soul Train, Donna Summer, Bee Gees, Andy Gibb(gosh, he was cute!), my fave Deee-Lite with The Groove is in the Heart, etc. The visual quality seems way improved. 3.) We were treated to a free drag show last night by Cher Javier who is «retiring» and brought cake for everyone. Same accepting, wonderful crowd who loves to DANCE! Disco lives!

I had a great, memorable experience here. I went(nervously) for a friends birthday. Very casual, welcoming crowd. Good music, low cover charge, great drinks-and was in the companionship of great company :) parking can be tough, but its Ventura Blvd and exactly what you would expect. Will definitely go again!

Such a fun little place and who knew there even was a place like this in Studio City? If you want to have a fun night dancing to some awesome beats, and you can even dance on stage, but are tired of the same old clichéd scene and boring faces of West Hollywood, you definitely have to give this place a try. Cheap cover, reasonable good drinks, friendly patrons, great music and a friendly atmosphere that will make you want to stay until closing.

Love Disco? Want to dance with no pressure on a Saturday night? Then, you need to head over to Oil Can Harry’s. This place is so much fun to simply let your hair down and dance… I have only been here once for the country dancing, but I LOVE their«Disco Saturday Nights»! The drinks are fairly priced and the crowd is fun…

Know what? I had an absolute BLAST here! It’s hard not to have a good time at a bar when you’re already hanging out with the 5 best friends anyone could have-but it’s more than that… the staff is nice, drinks are reasonably priced, music was great, huge dance floor, female impersonators, karaōke(which I never cared much for until I came here-lively group to say the least), and I just LOOOOVE being surrounded by gay guys-they’re just so uninhibited and no one bats an eyelash if you decided to get down on all fours and shake ya a$$ on the dance floor-no judgments. I danced with lots of guys and did not feel threatened in the slightest-I was just free to be! Thank you Oil Can Harry’s for letting me be my wild self and blow off some steam :)

I’M SOSADTHISPLACEWON’T BEOPENONTUESDAYNIGHTSANYMORE(starting July 1st)!!! I only discovered this place about a year ago & it quickly became one of my favorite bars to go to. But since I’m not really a fan of crowds & such, I always found myself going there on Tuesdays. I really liked learning the country two-step and line dances they played there. I’m a big fan of social dances like lindy hop & west coast swing, etc., so this was right up my alley. Plus — Lots of street parking, it’s own parking lot, & cover was only $ 3.00!!! Beat that, West Hollywood.

Gay men + country music + a welcoming crowd and divey setting= what’s not to love? I went here for a friend’s birthday last weekend and it was a people watching treasure trove. People from all walks of life get on that dance floor and dance it out. Some are on point, spinning, stomping, and nailing the country line dancing moves. Others are hammered, have no rhythm but just feel safe making bad dance moves and it’s clear they are enjoying themselves. British bartender/cowboy is charming and polite which is amazing given he probably deals with some wasted people. $ 3 cover and the drinks were pretty reasonable. Small back parking lot if you happen to drive.

I’ve got to be honest, not a friendly crowd to new comers. First and last time 4÷25÷14. No one came up to say«howdy ya’ll». A couple of em folks did smiled back as a polite gesture or flirt. The bartender on the back bar was sort of nice, so was the bartender on the top floor Kareoke lounge. The door guy, which recommend an Italian restaurant to dine in since we arrived at 8pm was the friendliest. I’m sure the locals could tell we were new since they all seemed to practically grope each other as they greeted one another. We certainly weren’t dressed, nor did we look like them folks. Not classy at all. Left before 12 am, I didn’t wanna see what they’d turn into at midnight. We didn’t have any alcoholic beverages to drink just two bottled waters. The music was good, they all seemed to enjoy themselves. Over all I didn’t feel welcomed, but oh well!

Lessons begin around 8pm and there is a $ 3 cover on Tuesdays. SOMUCHFUN! Take a group of your friends and have a great time! come early to get the lessons — whoever is working the door will kindly let you know what you’ll be learning and everyone is super nice! The décor is expectedly western and delightfully specific. There are definitely lots of mirrors on the way upstairs so that you can check yourself out, haha! The smaller upstairs bar is open before the downstairs portion opens. This bar serves a bit of food, has lots of places to sit, and has music videos playing on the TV. There is a direct entrance to this portion from the back stairs. Most people wear western-esque attire with cowboy boots, but it’s not a requirement. Pool table downstairs with the larger bar. There are lots of places to sit/stand on the sidelines if you;re a bit shy to go out in between lessons. If you arrive SUPER early, you can take advantage of the free food upstairs. It’s a small buffet selection with a rotating menu, but it’ll keep you help over until you’re ready to sweat it out on the dance floor. There was a great mix of all kinds of people here on a tuesday night. I definitely recommend!

Country line dancing your dream? Go on Tuesday or Thursday night for free lessons because this place is the perfect dive, full of distracting cowboy décor such as the HUGE hat that canopies the back bar. When nurturing a broken heart, there is nothing like the safety of a hetero girl hanging out with friends at a gay bar… well, except for the straight men that go with their gay friends and hit on you. But, I wasn’t mad. :) I had a blast with my friends, did the wobble, some line dancing, and a hot young man pulled me aside to say how much he loved watching me dance and rock my shoes. Given the high quality of other dancers here(no, I am NOT being sarcastic), it was a huge compliment for him to tell me I was a great dancer. Ego boost? Check! The drinks were good for a dive bar, the company was great, the music was mostly NOT country… so it was like group dancing all night. And, the jello shots for $ 1 were STRONG! I enjoyed it thanks to Carlos and Brian!

My friends come here almost every week, and for a couple of years they have been bugging me to come. Well I never went because I used to live so far away. Now that I live closer I finally went. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I have to say I was very happy with the end result. The people were all really friendly, the karaōke was actually kind of fun, the drinks were reasonable(plus they give you a coupon for a free one, but maybe that was just a happy hour deal), and there was no real attitude here. My issue with many of the gay bars in WeHo is just that they feel pretentious, and that if you don’t fit the model you don’t belong. I also tried a local gay bar near me, and the issue there was that it was all locals, so you felt odd being there. Oil Can though finds that perfect balance between super friendly local bar, and a fun place to just hang out. Not once did I feel out of place or like I didn’t belong. It was refreshing. The crowd here is definitely a bit older, and tends to run more towards the bear side of things then anything else really, but I’m ok with that. I’ll take that over the primped out twinks of WeHo. I’m not sure when I’ll be back, but I know I will be.
