Descriptive phrase: diner-fare, poor service. A group of 6 of us stopped for a quick Sunday breakfast at The Corner Café in Sturgeon Bay on our way back south from Door County. It was packed, and the only place to wait was a dusty seemingly-unfinished window area. There were maybe 2 servers for 40 or 50 people, which simply was not enough. Tables took a while to get cleared, servers were in notably poor moods, and one of our party’s food literally came out after the other five of us had already finished. We didn’t get more than a «sorry, we’re backed up in the kitchen.» Food was greasy diner fare, nothing special. On a Sunday morning, that’s all I wanted, but the terrible service and uncomfortable space dissuades me from returning to The Corner Café.

A real mediocrity in the heart of Sturgeon Bay. If you’re going to serve lousy food, you should at least staff the place with happy, smiling servers. Surly and indifferent staff only works if your food will make up for it. In the case of The Corner Café you’re stuck with BOTH surly AND lousy. A toxic restaurant combination. To top it off, the Tabasco bottle on the table was refilled with some Sysco bargain-basement Texas Pete knock-off. Disgusting.

Breakfast and lunch only. They close at 2PM. No credit cards but that’s OK, the prices are very low. The food is very good and large portions. We’ve been here twice recently and were very satisfied. Good service and nothing fancy, just a good old fashioned American diner.

Every time I come to Door county I come to this restaurant. The food is great the prices are fair and the people are very nice.

The restaurant has one, maybe two waiters. Theres usually one or two open tables, because the rest are pretty dirty. Make sure that you bring cash, because they do not accept credit card. Its stated everywhere on the restaurant that they dont accept credit! Their kids menu is very small, really its only chicken nuggets! In my meal, I had the pancakes and one tasted good while the other one tasted burnt. Oh my! The menu itself is pretty small, but its a good length. Fast service. Its good if you are in a rush and want food.

I came here for a men’s breakfast. There was nothing striking about the décor. Contemporary and brightly lit with the glass storefront. The service was good, but there were not many people here at the time. We all ordered something different. There were no complaints about the food. I ordered the Corner Skillet. This was a skillet with corned beef hash, tomatoes, green peppers, and onions, all sautéed and placed over fried potatoes, with a side of eggs and toast. Our food was up in a reasonable amount of time. The meal was ok, nothing special. It was a good experience worth a return trip, but probably not a high priority as they only accept cash, and I usually don’t carry any. The price was average for café dining. We asked for separate checks, but we got 1 itemized check.

If you are interested in good service, or even decent service, this isn’t your spot. We waited at least 15 minutes before asking for water and menus and then another 30 for coffee. When we finally received the menus it was with force and in a giant pile on the table before turning quickly to walk away. Repeatedly our waitress acknowledged ignoring our table and poor service, with no attempt to remedy or apologize. During our wait we witnessed, what appeared to be, normal service, not sure where we went wrong. The food was decent although the waitress did pick an eggshell out of the hashbrowns with her fingers at our table. All in all, we will not be visiting The Corner Café again.

I didn’t want to believe the previous reviews but they were correct. My bf ordered the loaded hashbrowns and they were cooked correctly but my meal on the other hand which was the winter hashbrowns were under cooked. And I felt uncomfortable to even ask for it to be redone because our server wasn’t the friendliest. Bottom line okay place for breakfast but don’t expect to have good service or great food. It’s decent but I’m sure there are better places.

Busy on a Sunday morning. We ate at the bar. I had corned beef hash and that, my hubby had biscuits and gravy. Decent, not too greasy. Fairly cheap but cash only!

Cheap greasy spoon breakfast, nothing pretentious or over the top. Nice for a quick normal breakfast. We had our baby with us and the cook came out to see her and be friendly. We’d go back. Nice not to spend $ 30 on eggs, you know?!

Cheap, greasy spoon-type local deliciousness. If you’re looking for gluten free or vegan options, keep searching. This is for meat loving, milk drinking, bread munching fried food lovers. You won’t find wine lists or linen table cloths here. They don’t accept credit cards, but they will tell you where to go if you have an attitude. Avoid Sally when she’s in one of her moods, Chad will charm the pants off your granny, and Amber will give you directions to the best attractions plus photography tips for when you get there. Come in, sit down, don’t dare ask for substitutions, eat your damn food and get the heck out. No nonsense, diet-destroying, indigestion-inducing goodness. I love it.

After reading Kevin A’s review of the restaurant I have to concur with everything he says. If you are from out of town just avoid this place. The décor is 70s un-decorated and just seems to be a huge empty room. The two cooks in the kitchen(females) just gossiped extremely loudly the entire time we were there to the point were we couldn’t even hold a conversation at our table. The server was busy talking football and fishing with the locals, also very loudly, and really did not give us much heed. The food was nothing special, I had cherry pancakes. The pancakes were average and I was giving a tiny sampling of cherry topping. The topping was homemade but was a small portion. My co-worker ordered the standard breakfast fare of eggs, potatoes and bacon, once again looked like dennys. Definitely not going back.

Not a restaurant for those from out of town. A restaurant full of local cliques, Chad will take care of them first and make you wait. Food average, Denny’s is better !! Chad was an obnoxious, rude server from the first moment we walked in. We were never made to feel welcomed. Also, Chad knocked over the utensils as we were sitting down. An inauspicious beginning to say the least !! The last straw is he dropped(intentionally?) a plate of sticky pancakes on my young son. Not once did he comp the meal, nor did he apologize. Do yourself a favor and go to the local McDonalds and get service with a smile, as well as a play area for your children !! Not a place for children or out of towners !! P. S, I put the one star only because Unilocal forced me to !! NOSTARRESTAURANT !!!

This was the second time we have been to the Corner Café. We stopped in on Saturday, November 9 — the day before the Packer game I had tickets for. We had four in our group — the waiter was quick — took our order and we had our food in no time. I had the daily special — eggs benedict — and they were great. The hollandaise sauce was wonderful — a lot better than the one I had the day before at a high priced fish market restaurant further Door County. Today I paid half as much and got a much better meal. My wife and our two friends all had great food — and the price was fantastic — $ 15.00 per couple — and we were filled to the brim, so to speak.

Basic, solid diner food. Great place for breakfast. Decent coffee. Lots of locals. Good people– everybody pitches in, food arrives quickly. Best of all, the prices! Ham and cheese omelet with toast: $ 4.25!

I wish I could give three and a half stars because 3 seems too low and 4 seems too high. I stopped in here for breakfast once and it was pretty good food. Classic diner food. Nothing fancy but it was a good breakfast. The service was pretty good. I have no complaints there. I don’t like that they are cash only. They would probably get 4 stars if they got with the times in that respect.

We were downtown and this looked like an OK place to have lunch. There was a large sign that they only accepted cash or checks. Walked in and was told to find a table. There was one waiter for the entire restaurant. He came by and«tossed» the menu to us. I mean literally tossed the menus onto the table and wanted to know what we wanted to drink. Ordered a Coke and he advised they only served Pepsi products. Order a hamburger and a cheeseburger. Noticed that most customers were eating breakfast. Tables needed to be cleaned. That was not going to happen as there were no employees. Our burgers arrived and he sat the plates on the table and left. Did not ask if we needed anything. This person just has to be the owner otherwise he would not make it as a waiter. We finished and ask for the check. He told us it would be $ 13.00. We did not argue and just paid the $ 13. When that amount came from we have no idea. Quite an experience.
