This library is a so nice. It is in a building combined with the treasurer and commissioner. The have two book drops outside as well as slots inside. The children’s section is a separate room along with a separate area with toys for kids to play with while you look for books. I’m still figuring out the location of all the books but sometimes it’s just nice to go to a shelf and grab blindly. The adult and young adult section is located in another section with doors. Librarians are stationed in each section and very eager to help you find a book. I like that better than looking them up on the computer. This library has more programs and events than I have ever seen from another library. They pretty much have something for everyone. Kids of all ages have a storytime, crafts days and even a young scientist day. Teens have their own days of events including movies and crafts. Moms are not left out with craft days, candy making, cooking classes etc. I am very pleased with the friendly staff, the clean and organized layout of the library and the outside(there’s a gazebo on the side) is just as complimentary as the inside. Everything just flows.

I take the kids here at least once every other week. They have become voracious readers and the childrens selection here is fantastic. This branch is nice, clean, and pleasant to be in. In addition, they have always been extremely helpful and friendly here. The contests they have held here have been amazing. My son won a GoPro camera after a summer reading contest ended. My daughter has won two other times for random drawings and such. They have made it so that my kids love to be here. For myself, I wish the they had a better selection of local history reference items. It appears that most of them are at Morgan. However, I love the fact that they carry so many graphic novels. When I am done with the heavy reading, I like to read some of the, lets face it… comic books. Safe parking lot, book drop off, board with local events and happenings, clean bathrooms. There is nothing else to say except to get your kids in there and get the learn on.

Fairly well stocked. Incredibly clean. Quiet. Knowledgeable staff. Generous check-out and return policy. It’s not a huge library. It’s kind of small, but not cluttered or over-crowded. The children’s section is moderately-sized. It’s a very decent means to an end, for a library.

The library looks beautiful. I am looking forward to being a regular. They were not entirely friendly the first time I tried to get a card. But with the right proof of residence, they were more helpful. FYI for military families: Military IDs are not enough. Don’t come in with POA’s, certified copies of members’ IDs, bills(unless they have your name and address specifically)…we were overseas for 17 years and my name wasn’t on anything. That had to change. …welcome back to America!

They updated their card system and have longer/more frequent renews. However they often don’t have what I am looking for. It’s convenient though.

I used to take my daughter here for mommy and me story time(of course that was before she spent the whole time yanking the books off the shelves) and we really love coming here and checking out their massive selection of board books. The librarians in the kids room are so helpful and kind(and patient with the kids!) and they’re always very prompt about calling you when a book you placed on hold is ready. While they have a wide selection, I’ve found that most of their popular books are almost always checked out because of its location in a highly residential neighborhood. Other than that, great place to kill a Saturday morning.

There are three branches of the Suffolk. I have been library and this is the nicest, newest, and the biggest of the three. However, there is something about this library that doesn’t jive with me. It feels kind of soulless. The staff has always been polite. But it is almost always pretty dead and this leads to a ghost town feel. But, you say, it’s a library. Isn’t it supposed to be quiet? Yes, it is, to some extent. I would like the staff to be friendly and excited about books. I do not find that at this location(or for any of the Suffolk branches). This is the reason I pay a membership to Chesapeake Public Library. We love the branch on Taylor Rd because of the wonderful children’s staff. The one thing I adore about this particular branch(and the reason it gets 4 stars) is the little shopping carts they have to help lug around books.
