I am ashamed that I’ve never reviewed Bennett’s Creek Park(BCP) before. Being the local Suffolk Park Queen, it is unacceptable. I thought I had already reviewed it long ago until I happened to notice my error the other day while kayaking. Well, it’s time to remedy my blunder! BCP is decent sized 57-acre park with many amenities. I first started going here with my boys to play on the playground and to go for nature walks. Then, once I bought a kayak, I utilized BCP for their three boat ramps to access the Nansemond River and Bennett’s Creek. This is one of my favorite spots for kayaking because of their different water trails. One trail is much longer and more strenuous, having to paddle against the current, and another is shorter, much more peaceful and calm. I also love that there are numerous birds along the way. I saw many Great Egrets, Great Blue Herons, and I even spotted a Green Heron. Here are some other amenities: * Disc Golf(If you’re unfamiliar with Disc Golf, check out this website: . It has info on how to play and videos.) * Restrooms * Playground * Tennis Courts * Skate Park * Nature Trails(Beware that the trails are combined with Disc Golf.) * Covered picnics tables for reserved use(call 757−484−3984) * Crabbing and Fishing pier * Open grassy fields * During the summer, the Summer Concert Series takes place here at BCP. Check out the website for the dates and bands( ). Out of the four parks in Suffolk, BCP is my second favorite(behind Lone Star). It’s a fantastic place for boating, you can’t beat the price – free! If you’re looking for something to do, check out Disc Golf. It could be a new fun hobby for the whole family. Whatever you’re looking for, BCP has it.

Been in Suffolk for 10 years now and this is a good park to visit. Here is what I like about it. 1. Nice boat ramp and area to fish. 2. small trails around the park to explore 3. Decent sized jungle gym for the kids 4. Summer concerts are held here. 5. Frisbee golf course available 6. small skate ramp(my daughter tried it out) 7. Small driving loop that you can run on while your kids play… What I don’t like is that the boat ramp is very tidal. You have to time it a little bit, because if you come back at low tide, your SUV may not be able to go that low in the ramp(slide on the algae). Other than that, it is a good place to go picnic with lots of pavilions I would recommend it to a family that is looking for something to do on the weekend.

Especially scenic and tranquil. There were couples fishing. People in boats. People on bikes. Friendly people, too. The pier is kinda gross, as it’s covered in leftover bait that has dried up from the sun. Let’s keep it real. So I probably wouldn’t walk down there unless I was going fishing next time. There’s something for everyone. A playground. Picnic areas. Skateboard park. I am impressed. This park is really clandestine, in the back of a newer community in Suffolk. I really don’t know how anyone would know it exists other than its neighbors. But it’s lovely.

playground, open space, skate park, frisbee golf/trails, boat launch, fishing pier, shelters, concert stage… we are here weekly most of the year. We use the playground, trails, boat launch and fishing pier. There are bugs here… you are by the water. There is usually wind here… you are by the water. As to the boat launch… we kayak so we have to give preference to the boats. But we like being able to float on this water… there is a bald eagle nest not far from put in. You do get the local flying through on their boats even with the no wake signs. We love bird watching. PLenty to explore from this put in. And the staff… I searched them out to remove a snake from the playground one day… they willingly came to do the job. My only complaint about this location is it brings in some questionable folks. The kids were on a trail when a man drove up, got out and started walking to the wooded area… where the kids were. We had to get up and follow… it was just off. He must have been crabbing b/c he ended up by the water checking something. And sometimes by the fishing pier there are couples making out on the picnic table for all who walk by to see. So with the kids I do keep an eye on my surroundings. With the wooded areas it’s not hard to see who is in there. We haven’t used the skate park. The crowd is teen boys and it gets crowded after school. We love this park and come here often. It offers a lot to the community. It’s always clean. Bathrooms are locked now that it’s off season. Porta potties are offered.

Since we live right behind this park, we’re here at least once a week. They have a good lap path for runners or just walking around with the stroller, a pretty cool kids park, and they always put on a bunch of festivals. Off the top of my head: chilli fest, kids fest, summer concert series, etc. It’s pretty clean and well organized, we like playing in the tennis courts with our dogs and throwing the ball. There’s always people out there playing frisby golf but they usually dont mind when we have the dogs off the leash playing tag. My husband’s very pleased with how they’ve rebuilt and extended the pier for fishing and crabbing and when we had a tandem kayak it was an excellent spot to explore many of the surrounding lakes and arteries that lead to the James. The only sore point here is the skate park they built that attracts all the riff raff(read: drug dealing hot spot) and the money they spent on it really should have went to an enclosed dog park. Otherwise, I always feel safe here and this park is a great selling point for families to buy in the surrounding neighborhoods and I’m glad we’re able to walk here.

Just like Jon mentioned — this is a wonderful spot. Plenty of things for the whole family to enjoy. My buddy and I come for Disc Golf, as well. It’s free, pretty well kept, and only reason it isn’t getting 5 stars is the bugs. However, what can you expect with the murky waters. The course is challenging, but definitely fun.

Bennett’s Park has quite a few things going on. Playground, Fishing, Boat launch, Skate park and Disc Golf just to name a few. I utilized the Disc Golf course which is an 18-hole course that definitely challenges even the most avid Disc Golfer! About the only thing about the course i could complain about is the bugs. though a good dose of OFF will help with that. Among the holes are a few that span across some pretty murky waters… beware! I’ve lost(and found) a few disc’s in each. The markers for each hole are a bit sunken in but with the grass worn you can always find it. W/in the forest portion there are trails that lead you along the course as well so moving from one hole to the next is relatively easy. I’d say the best hole on the course is #10 which is a Par-5 all on the open field. It really tests your distance capabilities. Overall I’ve played on about 3 of the courses around here this one is def the most challenging.
