This review is based on my first ever Christmas Tree shopping experience, here at Big Tex. November 28th, 2015, at 9 pm we setout for our first ever Christmas tree purchase. My wife always had a tree in her house after Thanksgiving growing up, but she was never deeply involved in the selection and purchasing process. I worked at a tree lot when I was 8(it was more illegal child labor than educational volunteering), but had not been within 40 feet of a lot since that age. Pulling up to Big Tex, and speaking of 40 feet, that was some of the heights of the trees on this lot. As far as selection, they had it ALL. We were greeted and little to no pressure was involved throughout. Essentially we picked out a couple promising ones, asked for their prices, and made our decision from there. The salesman we initially contacted took care of everything from giving basic tree info, tree specifics, carrying, cutting and loading. Paying was easy, as they take all cards and of course cash. There is an online coupon for $ 6 off that they honored(get yours now!). Looking back, and comparing prices at other lots, I realize $ 179 for a 9 foot tree was too much. However, I have no regrets as this was the perfect tree for us, and we’ll remember it for a long, long time. The reason I rated Big Tex only 4 stars is that I felt like their prices were too high, and they also do not offer a tree wrap for transportation. Everything«extra», cost extra. XL Stand: $ 25 Longevity Liquid and Dispose Bag: $ 5. It’s the little stuff that matters, and Big Tex doesn’t do little. Not a bad thing, but not the BEST either.

I receive the Big Tex nursery ads via email. I glanced it over and saw that the current ad for 7÷3÷2015 says citrus trees for $ 24.99 and dwarf pygmy palms for $ 9.99. I jumped in my car and go there. I drove a good half hour. The counter man told me that only palms of 12′ were available. They were roughly $ 80 or more. He then tried to sell me the«package» deal for $ 500. I asked him to show me the citrus trees. He showed me a few blood orange trees. No grapefruit, lemon, lime or tangerine, just blood oranges. He then told me that the lime trees were wiped out from«lyme» disease. Yeah, right… just leave. What a scam I thought. Bait and switch. This place will never see me step foot on their premises again. In addition, I registered their email as spam(scam, more like it!).

Good Selection. Good Information. Good Service. Free planting. Free Support poles. OK: — so they are not the cheapest– but everything was upfront and i was fully informed of everything. Sorry for the other contributing persons to this site who had less than sterling service — but i have no complaints.(And the tree looks good)

So I am wanting a xmas tree and usually get a 15 – 16 foot tree. my usual place I go was out so I called Big Tex and they said they have a few of the sizes im looking for. I should have asked the price but how bad could it be??? So I get there and the young man greets me and I say how much for the big one. Ok you all ready for this one??? $ 295.00 what??? Its disposable! So I immediately start walking back to my car and kinda laughing in disbelief. He then say let me talk to my manager to see if she can do anything. Now I feel as if I am at a used car lot but I know some cars out there for less than the tree so it all made sense. He talks with manager on phone and then tells me that the actual price of the big tree is normally $ 350 so $ 295 is the best deal. he then says if I go down a couple feet it would only be $ 195. What??? I say no thank and leave and go to the green and yellow tent and get a 12 foot for &129.00\ So if you are looking for a xmas tree I know a place that will definitely have some or should say a whole lot full around December 24th. at that time you might even get a 50% discount off the discount which would still make it higher than any tree in Houston.
